“Sorrento's Gem - Hotel Belair”
Reviewed 23 June 2009

Thinking of Sorrento and the Hotel Belair fills one with memories. Found the hotel on the internet and it was better than anticipated. It is a place of wonder; beautiful views from rooms, each with a balcony overlooking the sea, Sorrento and Mt. Vesuvius. Great breakfasts on the terrace. The staff, from Francesco, John and Monica at the front desk to the rest of the staff went out of their way to be helpful, gracioius and sincere. Looking forward to returning to this wonderful, relaxing hotel. Hotel Belair is a gem on the Bay of Naples.

This hotel has everything for the discerning person wanting a relaxing holiday. From the moment of arrival, a warm welcome from the ever smiling Francesco to the moment of departure one wants for nothing. Extremely friendly and professional staff; nothing is too much trouble for them and all are keen to make guests comfortable and to see that every need is satisfied. Food is delicious, well presented and served by personable and efficient staff. The Maitre d' oversees his domain like the captain of a ship. He misses nothing. The joy of having breakfast on the dining room veranda overlooking the Bay of Naples has to be experienced. Similarly dining in the evening as the sun goes down is another experience not to be missed. Excellent wine list. Superb pianist accompanying a mellifluous tenor are much enjoyed on Sunday evenings.
Bedrooms are well appointed, efficiently serviced and all with with views over Sorrento and the Bay of Naples.
If you wish either a quiet relaxing holiday or a more energetic one this hotel would be hard to beat. Plenty of activities, visits to Capri, Pompei, Heraculeum, the Amalfi coast and Naples. What better after a hard days
sight seeing than to return to a haven of peace and comfort and the relaxing ambience of the Belair?
I think my title to this report says it all.

I would not hesitate to recommend this hotel. All the rooms have fantastic views over the bay and the resort centre is very close. The staff were courteous, professional and very helpful.

The view was unbelievable! Francesco and staff were wonderful. They attended to our every need and were extremely accomodating at all times. The location was great - short walking distance great shops.

When we go back to Italy we will only go to Sorrento and only stay at the Hotel Belair!

Pros:
Beautiful room and views. Would stay again but only 1 or 2 nights.
Cons:
A huge walk uphill from downtown. Pool was not heated in May and was way too cold to get in. I guess a gas pool heater costs to much in Italy, no 5 star hotel would have an ice cold pool like this. Clientele was all OLD upper middle class English and a couple newlyweds. Meals were like tea party events for which people dressed and acted way to foo foo. The lobby was decorated in a sort of tacky french provincial and looked old lady.
If you are schooled in music you will find the nightly piano and singing very untalented and cliche cabaret or broadway. Our room did not have a room service menu. Buffet breakfast did not have any eggs. Rooms safe did not work at first because battery was dead and they had to fix after we complained. We wanted to stay longer but felt like we were not old enough and we are 40-50.

First of all, we would like to thank you for having stayed with us. Then, we want to state that the Belair is a 4 star and not a 5 star hotel.
Regarding your comment about eggs at breakfast, we are very sorry you didn't realize we cook eggs on request (any type), so we try to give better service offering more than just one choice of eggs on the buffet.
Finally, we are surprised for your evaluation about our evening entertainment since everyone loved it so far.
If you ever decide to come back, just for one or two nights like yuo said, we'll be happy to make you change your mind.

I have just got back from what can be described as one of the most enjoyable stays in a hotel that I have ever had. We have just got back after staying for a week in this wonderful hotel. We had one of the junior suites (room 307), it was lovely and spacious with an amazing balcony which enjoyed glorious views over Mount Vesuvius in the distance.
The food in this hotel is superb; there was always a wide variety to choose from at breakfast and dinner. Michele and his staff were always more than accomodating if there was anything that didnt appeal then the staff would always arrange a more suitable alternative.
All of the staff that I had the pleasure of meeting were pleasent, helpful and nothingwas too much for them.
