“Another wonderful holiday”
Reviewed 20 July 2014

This was our third visit to the Riviera hotel and we personally think it was even better than last time. We thought the food was 1st class and the staff throughout the hotel were kind and very thoughtful. The hotel is located in a good position for the centre of Sorrento and there is a bus stop right outside should you wish to do your own thing. We booked a package with Citalia through Thomas Cook so all our costs were included in the price. (Private transfers, sunbeds and half board ). The hotel is immaculately clean everywhere and if there is something you want you only have to ask. We will most definitely be back!

Room Tip: Lateral sea view room are slightly restricted with the view

Just returned from our 4th visit to this wonderful hotel. The hotel is great and the people who work there will do all they can to ensure you have a great time.
The hotel is spotlessly clean, the staff are professional and friendly. The views across the bay of Naples are superb and something we will miss until we visit again.
We had a great time, Claudio, Davide and Genaro at the bar are some of the nicest people you could hope to meet, great service and yet they always take time to chat and see if there is anything extra they can do.
Antonio in the restaurant is excellent ensuring all runs as it should do, which means again great efficient and friendly service. Rossella is a star x.
Pepe manages the pool and is tireless in his obvious desire to delight everyone with his great customer service and friendly manner.

We had 2 weeks at the Riviera in June for our honeymoon and had an amazing time. The hotel is in a great location, 10 mins walk from the centre of the town and right on the sea overlooking the bay with spectacular views.

We arrived late at night when the evening meal times had finished yet we were greated with a nice platter of food in our room, which was lovely. We had a side view room overlooking a lemon grove and mount Vesuvius. Rooms and bathrooms are quite small compared to when I last went to Sorrento to another hotel. However they are very clean, fresh and much more modern than many other Italian hotels, whilst remaining to be classy.

We stayed half board and we really could not fault the food. Breakfast was fantastic - so much choice and even the choice of freshly made omelettes than you could watch being made outside on the breakfast terrace. We loved having the option of breakfast outside every day!

The evening meals were also fantastic - the option of a salad buffet to start and then a 3 course a la carte meal. We had originally planned on eating out a couple of nights but we loved the food that much and looked forward to seeing the friendly waiters every night so didn't.

The staff really made this hotel - the restaurant staff Michel, Franchesco, Fernando, both Luigi's, Giovanni, Sonia were so nice and friendly, making you feel really welcome. And their service was first class! We were a bit confused on our first night about where to sit, as place names were on every table and we were eventually told that you get the same seat every night. We were sat at the back of the restaurant which was nice but we asked could we possibly sit near the window (which has fantastic views of the bay and Vesuvius). Giovanni said he would do his best in a few nights once other guests had left, however, the next night as soon as we walked in we were guided to a fantastic table right by the window so could not have been happier!

The bar staff led by Claudio were also great fun and made you feel really welcome!

The pool area is lovely, overlooking the sea, with a lovely, kind pool man, Pepe. There is also a lovely bathing platform in the sea, reached by a lift through the cliff from the inside of the hotel.

The only fault we could find in this hotel was the fact that the cleaners started very early in the morning and we were often woken up just before 8am to them (very noisily) moving furniture around above us. This was probably made worse by the fact that all the floors are marble, making the sound travel more. It really was like someone throwing furniture around! If the cleaners didn't start until at least 9am, this would make a huge improvement.

However, we would not let this stop us from staying here again as it is such a lovely hotel in an amazing location which was topped off with amazing staff and gorgeous food! We were gutted to leave!

Room Tip: A sea view.

This is the second time we have stayed at the Riviera and we have recently returned from a delightful 5 night stay in room 504. This is a deluxe sea view room on floor -2 so therefore built in to the cliff, in fact if you see a photo of the Riviera taken from the sea the balcony is where the word hotel is. This is a lovely position with gorgeous views from the large balcony which is furnished with a table, chairs & deckchairs. There is a fly screen door as well as the door onto the balcony meaning you can leave it open. The room is very spacious, the air conditioning ultra efficient ( much appreciated! ) and the bathroom is large & well equipped although I do have a suggestion: a magnifying mirror would be a very welcome addition for us ladies! No problem sleeping, the room is very quiet. The room and indeed the rest of the hotel is kept spotlessly clean. The lift down to the beach level can be accessed from this floor, also the same lift can take you one floor up to breakfast/dinner.

Breakfast was very enjoyable eaten outside on the terrace looking at the view that we never tire of, you can also sit inside if you so wish. Plenty of choice at breakfast. The evening meals/dinners
were also excellent, I don`t understand some of the bad reviews I have read. I am the " no cheese " lady ( lactose intolerant ) and they were always able to adapt the menu for me.

All the staff at this hotel were as friendly and welcoming as ever. A courtesy room was made available to us on our last afternoon to shower & change etc. Again, much appreciated.

Plenty of sunbeds & towels always available both at the swimming pool area & down at the beach level.

I highly recommend this hotel. Do choose this hotel you will not regret it!

We have just returned from another great 11 nights. This is our 5th time at this hotel and upon our arrival were welcomed like old friends. We cannot speak highly enough of everyone who we dealt with but special mentions to Ciro & Gianni on reception, Carmine on the bathing platform, Michele, Francesco & Fernando in the restaurant, and last but not least Claudio and his brilliant team in the bar.

This hotel has a lovely quiet location and even the standard rooms at the back are not noisy because they overlook a large private garden with fruit and olive trees(unlike the Ambasciatori next door).During the making of the film 'Love is all you need' starring Pierce Brosnan, the Director and Producer of the film stayed at this hotel. Enough said!

Unfortunately can't make it next year, but we will be back in 2016

Room Tip: standard rooms at the rear are the best value and are quiet as they overlook a private garden. 2nd...

While staying at this beautiful and elegant Cliff hotel, we nicknamed it "The White Marble Palace".
The building and almost everything in it is white. It better be your favourite color...
Despite the white theme, the hotel is tastefully decorated with lots of beautiful white marble in the lobby, bar etc. and beautiful antique furniture in the large, french-doored social area.

The staff are friendly and very professional, from the front desk to the restaurant.

The guest rooms are not overly big (as is the norm in Europe) but very bright and breezy with little balconies and are very clean! The decor is rather minimalistic and perhaps even a bit clinical and the mattresses are on the harder side but again, this is very common for Europe / Italy.
The main dining room has an elegant air to it, a great breakfast buffet and dinner was lovely as
well.

The pool deck is not overly large but the hotel has a wonderful and well maintained private wooden deck area down at ocean level which is reachable via a private elevator, where one can also swim in the ocean.

This resort hotel might not be very suitable for children as there is really no space for them to run around.

The "Grand Riviera" is located in a very quiet area, right on the cliff and it takes about a pleasant 10 to 15 min. walk into the downtown core. The view from the hotel is absolutely spectacular!
We would stay here again.

We stayed for ten nights at Hotel Riviera the best bit for me was the jetty with all the sunbeds
around the boardwalk loved swimming in the sea really nice and relaxing, We had a room with a front sea view which you should go for or side sea view , Hotel clean in nice location with staff very polite and helpful, Breakfast was excellent to suit every one, But two things did disappoint
me first was the main course in my opinion not good enough, I have stayed in five hotels in Sorrento and the main courses were better ,secondly the drinks were too expensive I think the
Hotel should do more to keep you at the Hotel, Has someone already mentioned the snack bar down the road good food and drinks for a third of the price, Went to pompei and Herculaneum
by train, Sites are near stations and is the cheapest way to see them, Boat trips best to shop around. The only reason for 4 stars was the main meal, But a great Hotel to stay in
Many Thanks Mr George

Room Tip: If you can afford a sea view room go for it, Its well worth the extra cost
