“Very good location, great staff and heavenly view”

We stayed two nights. Coming from Circunvesuviana station, just walk a block and across the square you will get the Hotel. Splendid view and very helpful staff. Room was clean. Great breakfast. Do not miss a sun bath at the beach - Stairway to (heaven) sea. And at night, walk to downtown to take some sicilian lemmon ice cream.

We travelled to Sorrento for our 40th wedding anniversary trip as part of a group of 30 touring Italy and Sicily. On checking in we were impressed by the lush surroundings and environment but 8 of us were allocated rooms in an annex to the main hotel. Our room was on the 4th floor but guests could only aight from the lift on the mezzanine floors so we had to drag suitcases up a flight of stairs to get to the room. We had asked for a non-smoking room with a sea view but could smell smoke and the sea view was partially obliterated by the L-shaped structure of the building. The room itself was substandard and bore no resemblance to those photos shown on the website either in decoration or standard, being painted a dingy green both walls and furniture. The lighting was too dim to read by and the beside light could only be switched off by getting out of bed. The room had 3 sockets, one for the TV (no plasma TV as listed in the hotel information in the room and poor picture quality), one for the fridge/mini bar (which despite containing a list of drinks available did not tally with the contents - only water and 2 cans of beer) and one near the door with no access to a mirror to use a hair dryer/straighteners if desired. The bathroom was appalling, couldn't use the loo without sitting with feet in the shower, couldn't get out of the shower without bumping into the wall, couldn't use the mirror as it was fixed above eye level. I could go on but after requesting a change of room and told none was available we moved the following day to a nearby hotel and enjoyed the rest of our stay in Sorrento, with the benefit of a lovely room (and bathroom) with a balcony where we could sit and gaze and the panoramic view of the Bay of Naples.

We were booked in at the De Ville only to be told on arrival that they were full and we were to be moved, even though we had booked months in advance. Having spent a lot of time choosing the De Ville, we were nervous that we were to be downgraded.
The location of the Europa Palace is unbeatable with views over the Bay. Our room was reasonable although the bathroom looked far from 4* status. Breakfast was a nice buffet but the same food every day and on one day we arrived towards the end of the allotted breakfast session to find most of the food already gone.
We stayed during the last week of August, but the hotel had the feel of 'out of season'.
We would recommend this hotel jjust for the view and location in Sorrento, but only if the price is right.

We stayed at this hotel over 20 years ago and found it enchanting, excellent service, location and food. Five years ago we stayed at the Da Ville - first class food and service but location a little further out and less bathing facilities. We have, therefore, just returned from a 2 week stay at the Europa Palace to celebrate our 30th Wedding Anniversary and were disappointed. Little has changed in over 20 years except the bathing facilities. The Hotel has lost its lustre and can only be described as tired. Whilst the Breakfast Buffet is excellent, Dinner leaves much to be desired, the food being unimaginative and predictable.
At first meeting many of the staff appear unfriendly although you can warm to them as time passes and we established a good relationship with a number of staff as the days progressed. A Gala Dinner was provided on 15th August and we estimate that with invited guests a total of 140 people were present. A difficult task for any Chef and staff preparing and serving 9 courses. For an event commencing at 8.30pm this was too ambitious particularly when the final course arrived at 1.00am.
Housekeeping i.e. bedrooms, was not up to standard with marked towels, a lack of toilet paper and rooms not being serviced until as late as 4.40pm and on one occasion not at all without a call to Reception.
It is sad that a beautiful hotel with such a superb location is lacking in standard but still charging at 4 * rate
Incidentally watch out for sunbed reservations where the sunbeds are reserved but only used for a few hours - very exasperating if you only want an hour or two in the sun but the beds are reserved but unoccupied for a large proportion of the day.
Cost of drinks expensive.

Unless you can get a really good rate (we payed 100 Euros per double, which is rather good), I could not warmly reccomend this hotel due to the uninviting bathrooms and general run down conditions of the guest rooms. They are in dire need of a re-fit.

The elavator did not work in our part of the hotel.

The hotel insists that everyone wears swim-caps in the pool (salt water), which one can buy from the pool-boy for 3 Euros.

The snack-bar at the beach area - reachable by stairs or tiny elevator - offers a decent lunch and good coffee. The small hotel beach is right next to a yacht marina and the busy main ferry docks.

What in general puzzled us most was that the attitude of the staff - and thus the owners/management - alle seemed relatively uninterested in running good a hotel. What has clearly been a great 4 star hotel is slowly turning in to a 3 star - at best - and few seems to care or take interest. Very strange, since it could be such a nice place.

One almost hopes that a leading hotel chain will buy the Europa Palace Grand Hotel, and pour some of their resources into it, to restore it to what it was, or could be. If so, they could double the price (or more), and it would be worth it.

The hotels force is of course its great location. It is very close to Sorrento's main square, and the views from the hotel at sunset are simply wonderful. Sipping a drink at the terrace before dinner is amazing, with its splendid view of the bay and Vesuv. Strange then, that the hotel and staff does not make more of this. Slow and moderately interested waiters, and no effort from the management to advertise or make this terrace an "it" place. Would be so easy.

Also, the breakfast is excellent (for Italy) and is served on the patio, with its great view. The breakfast staff actually smiled!

We LOVED Europa Palace! Firstly, from the train station, we were quoted by a taxi driver 15 euros to take a taxi to the hotel!!! The hotel was a TWO minute walk, across the road, through the small piazza and then across the next road.

PERFECT location if you are walking places. Close to train station, three minute walk to Piazza Tasso, five minute walk down to the port.

We chose a basic room which was adequate, but I imagine the views from the beach side would be amazing!

We loved our private beach and the panoramic views from the pool were unbelievable!!! We didn't know which to go to first!!!

Disappointing there was no internet access unless you had your own lap top. And overall as a whole it was very difficult to find internet cafes in Sorrento.

Breakfasts were amazing. Beautiful coffees, lots to choose from, sitting out on the terrace with staff waiting to help you.... On our departure we had to leave the hotel very early and they even prepared us a little bag each with things for breakfast. That was very nice.

Overall, I was VERY happy with our stay at Europa Palace. We were only disappointed we had only three nights there...
