Europa Palace Grand Hotel
Ranked #57 of 100 Hotels in Sorrento
Reviewed 23 August 2010

A wonderfully grand hotel, both in size and style. On the ground floor the lounges, reading rooms and bar seem to go on forever with so many little areas for privacy, with big soft chairs and couches and beautiful paintings, furniture and things of interest. Our rooms were vast. A double and a superior, with three balconies on the superior looking out over the private bathing platform acessed by a lift and a tunnel. Wonderful views, great breakfast and lovely inlaid wood desks and tables. Very helpful and efficient staff!

We booked the Europa as it looked beautiful on the website, after consulting Trip Advisor I was a little worried as the hotel seems to get mixed reviews. I can only speak for our experience and the room we had...we needed a break from work so chose a hotel we felt had everything we splashed out and got an executive double sea view room and how glad we were that we did...our room was spotless and spacious inside with a big bathroom and best of all a huge terrace..the seaview rooms above us had small balconies however ours had a communal terrace stretching right accross the front but also with a private area secluded by honeysuckle trellis with our own parasol, table and chairs. Unlike some of the other reviews on here our room had no noise as it was not a street view (of course you are going to get noise with a street view its Italy they have mopeds) the air con kept the room at a pleasant temperature and the bathroom had a glass shower guard and a wall mount so you dont have to hold it up. The views are amazing the lift and tunnel to the swimming pool and the beach we thought was a great feature and we loved the fact the pool was down right by the sea and not up at the hotel also there is a great restaurant/cafe serving everything you need down there. The train/bus stations are 5-10 minutes away as is the main square. All in all a lovely week at the Europa and well worth a stay for a special occasion. Gorgeous hotel, beautiful surroundings and the perfect base to explore the Amalfi coast...a truley unforgettable experience.... If we ever visit Sorrento in the future we would not chose another hotel as the Europa was fantastic

Just returned from a week stay at Europa Palace. Had the best holiday ever!!
Sorrento is beautiful, the hotel is in a PERFECT location - Close enough to all local transport (Bus, Train, Ferry), for the independant traveller.
Grand, Charming hotel. Beautifully clean & food aplenty.
Only critisism would be that rooms at back of the hotel a little noisy with passing traffic & also a bit eerie & damp smelling tunnel to get to the pool, sunbathing platform & sea, but WELL WORTH IT! - Free towels & umberellas for sunbeds with steps down to the sea - LOVELY!
Found Sorrento to be a little expensive for food & drink. A bottle of water at the hotel costing 3 Euros. Local shops selling it for 1 Euro.
Had a good look around Sorrento & think this is one of the best hotels in the area.
I did almost cancel my booking for this hotel after reading a few bad comments previously posted, but am so pleased that I didn't!!

Have just returned from one week stay at the Europa Palace Grand Hotel. Staff are very friendly and helpful. Hotel grand in old-fashioned Italian way, lots of marble and heavily patterned furniture but all recently updated. Vernada is nice with lovely views but new furniture needs some cushions...bit hard to sit on. We had a rennovated room overlooking the sea with small balcony, just about seats two facing each other but views lovely in both directions. Bathroom was huge and updated but no shower curtain and no visible extractor fan. Both room and bathroom spotlessly clean. I did not like taking the lift down through the cliffside and then a long walk through a tunnel to get to the pool, we only checked it out once and decided not to go again. Shame the pool is not at hotel level like the Royal next door. However, the hotel is in a great location. Five minutes walk to main bus station and six minutes into centre of town which is full of cafes, great shops and restaurants. Complaints? - not really, only that breakfast was pretty basic, poor selection of fruit and breads, coffee cold most mornings oh, and my husband kept tripping down the step at entrance of the hotel leading into main lobby!. Apart from that we had a lovely holiday and would probably stay there again.

Such a disappointing hotel. It must once have been a very grand and fine place to stay but no longer. The hotel seems to run as two businesses - a successful wedding and function side using the impressive reception rooms on the ground floor and what must be a failing hotel on the upper floors using completely outdated bedrooms and awful bathrooms - no showers except some hand held ones attached to the bath taps and the baths are so old there is no enamel left on them, the plumbing needs replacing. The airconditioning is inadequate and as mosquitos can be a problem sleeping with the windows closed is essential. So the rooms are not that comfortable and not in-keeping with the grandeur on the lower floors. The staff are friendly and helpful but the hotel needs massive investment to bring it up to standard. The breakfast was awful too - small and poor selection, horrible fruit juices from cans or concentrate - how this can be needed when the area grows such an abundance of citrus fruit everywhere you look - cereals seemed stale, pastries and croissants not fresh either. Plenty of other hotels in Sorrento so look elsewhere.

We went to the Grand Palace Hotel in Sorrento based on reviews on Tripadviser.
We were not disappointed. The hotel is one of the best we have stayed in. Evening meals were excellent and breakfasts had everything on offer. Rooms were spacious and kept clean. The staff were very polite and helpful. The position of the hotel is ideal for the train, shops and faces the sea! Everybody that we talked to were very pleased with the hotel and said that they would return......and so are we!
