“Excellent and improved from last year”
Reviewed 29 July 2014

Let me start by saying if you are going to this wonderful hotel in the next few weeks, lucky you, be excited and really look forward to it! We returned in July for our second fantastic visit having first been in 2013 and I wish we could be still there. The service from the waiting staff in particular is better than anywhere else we have been and we have a considerable list, far more than reviewed on Trip advisor.

Let’s start with the food

Breakfast-
Not much change from last year. Fairly standard fare, pastries (lots), cheese, ham, cold meat, fruit, cereals and some hot options including bacon. There is only scrambled and boiled egg out there but they will cook other egg varieties as requested. Still I think a four star should consider a chef visibly cooking omelettes or requests. They have ham and cheese available but to improve they could consider a bit of smoked salmon (goes nicely with scrambled eggs) and that would have been good, as I tended to only eat a plate of scrambled eggs. The sausages are frankfurter variety, not particularly great. The best suggestion would be to have hot porridge available with bananas and honey, which would be very welcome. Breakfast is still probably 8 out of 10 but I have seen better at other 4 star hotels.

Lunch-
This is more or less the same as last year, buffet style and very good with hot and cold options, meats, fish, salads, pasta etc. The pizza is freshly made in front of you, fish and meat grilled on a barbeque and everything is very good. As a dessert the ice cream choice is excellent, the Tiramisu variety tempted us back too many times. I did see someone previously say there had been no Tiramisu cake, we saw (and ate) it a few times. An offbeat suggestion is to try the pea and ham soup when on, I found it particularly good. Overall- 9 out of 10.

Dinner-
Excellent, better than last year. Start with an appetizer from the buffet but you end up piling on your plate because it is so good. There are more delicate items this year, for example, in small containers, which I recommend trying as they add to the taste experience and the look. The service is exceptional, the waiters led by Maitre’D Pepe are just excellent. After the appetiser, you get a choice from about 6 starters & 6 mains, every one of them were tasty and just the right size given the appetizer, plus of course a choice of wine. We tried a few but got to like a red wine called Nero D’Avola, very nice. Once we finished the first bottle they brought us a second (yikes and a third sometimes!) and you can then go and find a table to relax away from the dining area. This hotel doesn’t scrimp on the drinks (or the ice cream portions) as we have experienced at some other all inclusive places. The hotel puts a bread roll at every place setting, then seems to throw them away when (most) people don’t eat them, if I was the hotel I would go around with a basket of warm rolls and see who wants one, save on waste. Overall- 10 out of 10

Garden-
New this year and means that you can relax away from the kids in the pool and it is a big improvement from last year. Plenty of space and three excellent Jacuzzi’s, with the new eating area looking nearly ready. A pleasure was sitting in the Jacuzzi with a cold beer on a hot day, so relaxing. Children are banned from the Jacuzzi’s but some people ignore the signs and one particularly young child in there was concerning yet the hotel manager didn’t want to know; still it will not be an issue next year. I wonder if the hotel will do a waiter service for drinks around the garden/pool next summer as it would be a really excellent option. The sun chairs are ok, not uncomfortable but practical, an improvement could be the ones with a mattress.

Rooms-
We stayed on the 1st floor at the front of the hotel and reading some reviews honestly wondered what this road noise is that people have been talking about? If the balcony (a decent one) door is left open only then would you hear it. The aircon is good so we kept the door shut and were not affected by road noise at all, in fact the only noise that disturbed us was the entertainment one night being particularly loud. There is no view of the sea on the 1st floor. The rooms were much better having been decorated attractively, although the bathroom was very clean it looked pretty similar to last year. The shower is over the bath and if renovating it might be better with a walk in shower.

Bar-
The lobby bar has been greatly improved and is now quite swish. Cocktails, bottles of wine, spirits, all no problem.
One great thing is that you can ask for a full bottle of cold sparkling wine (or red or white wine) plus two glasses and go and sit on the roof, the balcony or in the garden, a nice romantic option.
I have to mention Catello in the pool bar, recognised us straight away from the previous year and is a top guy.

WIFI-
Last year it was only available in the lobby, this year all over the hotel, in your room, around the pool and even in the garden. Not the strongest but big thumbs up to the hotel for widening coverage.

The hotel did seem to attract quite a few children but apart from jumping in the pool there is little else around the hotel itself for them, there are no pool tables or games for them to be involved with. It is quieter in the garden area. Getting around involves a few steps so less-able may not find it easy.

Whilst we were there this year Thomson’s film crew and photographer were working and for 2015 it will continue to be all inclusive with further improvements plus it will be “adults only” aimed at couples. The further improvements planned, to our knowledge are a roof top bar and the roof has stunning views over Vesuvius and bay, organised entertainment plus a spa and new bar by the pool at the garden level. I might be greedy and suggest for a couple’s holiday in 2015 they find a way to fit in a “swim up” bar which would be sensational. Also they have a sister hotel and maybe they could offer a “dine around” option perhaps for one lunch to try it. We had a fantastic stay in 2013 and immediately booked for this year, it was great again this year, and are more likely to go back next year to enjoy romantic Sorrento when the hotel is adults only.

A very enjoyable stay, nice hotel generally very clean with very helpful staff and good food.

Negatives are its position which is on the edge of Sorrento with no pavement within circa 500m of the hotel making it a quite hazardous walk due to traffic.

We were there for a week before the schools broke up and sadly the dynamics of our stay changed when the children started to arrive.

The hotel is not really child friendly with a small pool, that suddenly got dominated and precluded it use by adults.

There are rumours that the hotel is changing to couples only which may be a reflection of its overall suitability for children.

I spoke earlier about being generally clean and to be fair our room was meticulously cleaned daily with fresh towels when required and the communal areas were kept clean, unfortunately the toilets were not kept very clean with a lack of toilet paper and towels, when my wife complained to reception she as told that there was a lot of people in the hotel!!!!

But as I say in the title would be happy to return.

Room Tip: Due to the trees you will need to be on the top floor to get a decent Sea view and the hotel is fron...

Stayed here for the second time for 10 days during July. We loved it last year, we loved it more this year, and we'll probably love it even more next year when we go back and its adults only. Thinking this is not being "selfish" as one reviewer says below. Actually what is selfish is the parents telling their children to ignore the signs stating no children in the Jacuzzis, including one monumentally selfish pair who took a baby without a nappy in, but thats by the by.

All the good things we remember from last year have not changed, the food if anything is better, and wine still comes by the bottle. The service is amazing, Cattello and Pepe are still as good ever, and we were recognised by several of the staff from last year.

The rooms have been updated, but the bathrooms are still the same as last year, whether there are any plans to upgrade them this year I don't know. They are fine though, large sink, toilet, shower over the bath, and I think you'll find the "foot basin" mentioned in a review below is in fact a bidet :-) Its all kept spotlessly clean by the maids.

The restaurant has been given a lick of paint, but otherwise is the same, but the bar has had a complete makeover and looks fab, and a new restaurant and pool bar (and possibly roof top bar, not sure) are opening for next year.

Outside, no changes to the pool, which is fine, but small, and packed with screaming kids (for now) but the new garden area is lovely with three really nice Jacuzzis, and sunbeds. Its lovely and peaceful up there, and you often have the jacuzzi to yourself.

Food, as I said, has, if anything, improved, but not the breakfast sadly. Its fine, but nothing really to my taste, I ended up stuck with yogurt every day. I would have liked more fruit choice, and porridge, hopefully this is something they will consider next year. They will make you an omelette or fried egg if you ask, but bizarrely not a poached one.

Lunch is lovely with a good selection of salads, a few hot dishes, pasta, fresh pizza and BBQ meat and fish, with desserts and ice cream if you have room.

Dinner is the best meal, I could have happily lived on the buffet, but the starter and mains chosen form the menu were excellent too. It's very difficult not to overeat, and how anyone had room for dessert I'll never know.

Overall, utterly fab, and the best all inclusive hotel we've been to outside of Sandals, by some considerable distance. We'll be back next year, as will many others we spoke to.

Sorrento is a beatiful place with many nice places to visit but this hotel really made the holiday for us.
Food was superb from morning till night, and Pepe and his team were magnificent. Hugely generous in every way.
The staff were fantastic, nothing too much trouble; and the rest of the guests were so friendly it made the stay really relaxed.
A really brilliant place to stay.

Visited this hotel last August and thoroughly enjoyed it. The staff were great and were very kind, welcoming and helpful to our three kids. I think it's a shame it's changing to a couples only hotel, and it's also a pity other people seem to think that's an improvement. We are returning to the hotel next month, and would probably go back again in the future, but the change will prevent us from doing so. I think this is a shame and will damage business. Families only attend in a short summer period, so all the couples who find families annoying, have the rest of the year to indulge themselves in their selfishness.

Nice rooms ( family ones are the better and bigger ones) small fridge which is empty, plenty of clothes hangers available, two double wardrobes, but only 3 drawers and two bedside cabinets with one drawer in our room ( 218 ). good size bathroom with hair drier ( although some people said that it did not produce much hot air ). toilet, bath with shower over, sink and foot wash basin. no ironing board or iron in room, both can be hired from reception for 5 euros per half hour. Safe in wardrobe ( digital and free ) free wifi works in room also. I was on the second floor at the front of the hotel and we had paid extra for a sea view, could only see the trees, found out from the Thomson rep that the hotel does not class floors one two and three as having a sea view only fourth floor which have smaller rooms and top floor of annex, complained to rep who sorted it all out for us and got a full refund WELL DONE CARL ( thomson rep ).
Lifts to all floors ( 2 lifts in reception that carry a max of 5 people per lift. First floor 2 x 12 steps then 2 x 11 steps to other floors making 90 steps to top floor.Good views from top floor roof terrace and also good for sunbathing with plenty of sun lounges and chairs. Small pool with plenty of sun lounges garden area just above pool area with three jacuzzi's and lots of sun lounges and chairs. one pool towel per guest and only allowed to change 2 times in one week !!! Breakfast plenty of choice but avoid the coffee unless you like it REALLY strong. Lunch is help yourself outside and can get pretty warm even under shade but a good selection. Dinner is good with waiter service and a good selection of wines from the wine list with 50% of them being in the all inclusive.packed lunches are available for people going on trips ( free ) and offer 2 bread rolls with cheese and tomato or ham mainly, with a cake and fruit and a bottle of water, get this if going on a trip it will save you a lot of money, with costs of lunch on trips being around 15 euros each and of very poor quality ( most people did not like the dinners they had on trips ). could save a lot of money of in a family group. make sure you let tour guide know you have your own packed lunch otherwise you will be taken to a place with everyone else to pay for the meal, but be prepared to find your own seating arrangement the tour guide I am sure gets a tip for taking up to 40 people to eat at a friends place ! you will recognise the "sales patter" if you do a few trip and it is coming up to lunch time.
When arriving in Naples no one tells you that you have to walk from airport to Coach park 10mins walk until you meet the Thomson rep, would be bad if raining and pretty tiring when arriving in mid day sun.
Be prepared for the trips you do, with every place charging extra for an entrance fee from 12 euros each to 3 euros none of this is included in your trip cost so take money with you.
The hotel transport into Sorrento and back must be booked the night before so you can not just get onto it and the public transport is ticket only and does not take cash, tickets bought from hotel or campsite across the road from hotel. Walking into town takes about 15 to 20 mins and is not hard work but it is not for the faint hearted, the traffic comes very close and the pavement is only available half way to the hotel.
When drinking a beer in town you can notice that the hotel beer is a lot weaker, but I think still good value for what you pay for holiday so no complaints about the drinks.
On the day of departure you have to be out of room for 10am this can be a long day if you have a late afternoon flight or night flight.
Overall the hotel is a good one and I think they will improve each year, the staff are friendly and helpful, this is the hotels first year of all inclusive and they are doing well, it would not be fair to compare them to all inclusive holidays like in the Caribbean. I would recommend the hotel and the area, The Atlantic Palace is the only one we found doing all inclusive but I am sure more will take to it when see the Atlantic doing well.
The Thomson Rep CARL was very good and went out of his way to help. he made you feel relaxed and you felt you could trust him. A nice touch was the tour by Carl into Sorrento to show you round the town ( all for free ).

Room Tip: Sea views only top floor ( fourth floor) front of hotel or top floor annex, noise from road front of...
