“Returned after 6 years and were recognised”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 18 October 2010

We decided to book with Thomsons for an all inclusive at the Atlantic Palace, Sorrento as we had been there 6 years ago, prior to Thomsons all inclusive.

From the moment we arrived, we were recognised (obviously their database is up to date).... Roberto was his usual charming selt as maitre d', Antonio who initially seemed a bit grumpy was far from that once we frequented the bar regularly. So much so, that as we approached the bar from the distance, he immediately got our tall glasses with ice, ready for our Gin and Tonnics. Yes, it was all inclusive, and therefore the alcoholic % was probably less than in the UK, but hey.... you could go up and get more if you so chose.

For an all inclusive, the meals were the same, the service the same, the courtesy bus etc all the same. Some people seem to want everything for nothing..... loads of booze etc. If that is what you want, you're going to the wrong destination.

Our maid was both polite and efficient.

We have been going to Sorrento for 9 years, and I'd have to say, the Atlantic Palace is one of my favourites, far enough out of town for peace and quiet, but so convenient if you want to spend the day downtown.

Don't be put off through the negative reviews, this is a lovely hotel yes it is a bit out of the way but has a very relaxing atmosphere our room was at the back of the hotel and very quiet. Food was superb and plentiful and all the waiters are brilliant. Only thing that spoilt the holiday a bit was Antonio - the bar manager, who we found to be extemely rude and unco-operative, thankfully Guelio and Luigi were brilliant.

The hotel itself was lovely, the rooms lovely and clean and the bed linen sparkling white. The food was lovely 10 out of 10. My only gripe was with the drinks. As it was an all inclusive holiday, the bar manager Antonio really didn't like giving us "free" drinks and the alcohol was watered down so much it was almost tasteless. His sour face was enough to put anyone off asking for a drink. One couple asked for two glasses of wine and a bottle of water with their lunch and he wouldn't give them the water saying they were only allowed one drink each! The couple complained to the head manager of the hotel and after that Antonio was all smiles to the guests, obviously been reprimanded. The drinks though were still like water.

My husband and I have just returned from 2 weeks all inclusive at this hotel. We travelled with Thompson and had a really wonderful rep (sorry Travel Advisor) named Alessandro
who was the best 'rep' we have ever had. Nothing was too much trouble for him and he even provided a mobile phone number which he could be contacted 24 hours a day. This was very reassuring. He did the best welcome meeting we have every had and it was not just an excuse for selling trips. He had a wealth of information about the resort and the walkabout around the best spots in Sorrento was very good.
The hotel was very elegant and I would reccomend a room with a sea view which was fabulous. The food was very good with great deal of variety from wonderful four course evening meals in the very elegant dining room to the Americano snack which served burgers, french, fries ,pizzas, traditional pasta dishes, and traditional salads, cakes and ice cream.
The staff were very obliging and very efficient. We especially liked Antonio the barman in the Americano bar who made our stay very enjoyable.
The all inclusive was just as it says, we had no restriction on any food or drink that was available and this was extensive, the bar was very well stocked with a very good variety of wines and spirits. Cocktails and liquers were also available from 10a.m. to 12 midnight.
The only negative point was the pool and poolside snack bar which was not manned for most of our stay.
Our room was spacious and were spotlessly clean with clean towels daily and bed linen changed tice a week.
The hotel has a free shuttle bus on most days into Sorrento and also to the Sea Club beach which we would reccomend for the beautiful views of the bay of Capri .There are plenty of sunbeds available at no charge for Atlantic Palace guests. Well worth a visit.
All in all we had tremendous value considering what other guests paid. I would certainly reccomend all inclusive at this hotel.

My wife and I stayed at this hotel as part of a package with Riviera Travel. After having selected this hotel (it was described as 4 star and in a convenient location) we read a number of poor reviews on TripAdvisor so we approached our stay with some trepidation. We were not disappointed. The food was awful (so much so that we went to Sorrento to each evening for dinner) and, unless you have nerves of steel, the town is inaccessible by foot (roads are narrow and winding; there are no pavements and there are plenty of coaches, buses, scooters etc. to avoid. By no stretch of the imagination is this a 4 star hotel. Having said that, we have to say that the Riviera Travel itinerary and guides are excellent. Shame about the Atlantic Palace.
