“Great location for exploring Sorrento”
Reviewed 26 July 2012

The hotel couldn't have been in a better location, 2 mins walk from the Piazza Tasso and the train and bus station. The hotel was very clean and all staff were very friendly and very helpful. The rooftop pool was a brilliant spot for sunbathing during the hottest days - not heated, but didn't really matter in the heat. Only thing is a lack of 'authentic' local cuisine at dinner, but with so many restaurants so close by, I didn't eat much in the hotel. Would stay again and recommend others to do so.

This hotel could be so much better with a little bit of attention. Rooms lovely and large, tiled floors, big balcony. A little dated yes and bathroom a bit pokey but roomy main room and good aircon and we didnt find it noisy unlike a few others. Lovely grounds too to sit in for shade.Extremely well located 5 minutes walk to the town and no great hills to climb. Very nice staff. Thats the positive stuff

My main problem with this hotel is it has a lot of coach tours and is totally "atmosphereless" Most people are out all day and no one around in the evening either, despite it having a big lounge etc. Guys a little low level music in the background wouldnt hurt , I dont mean bingo and karaoke etc. Also a total lack on underuse of thier nice rooftop pool area. Pool isnt big (certainly smaller than it looked on the site) but there are no brollies and no shade and in 37 degree heat that isnt nice, however it did have a lovely terrace bar up there which only serves lunch 12.00 till 2.00 and shuts for drinks at 6pm apart from 1 night a week. This is a total waste. Market it, have pictures up in reception and serve drinks at night--we would have gone up there-great views.

Breakfast too was poor for the size of the hotel, Ive had better at a travel lodge, and it finishes at 9.30am meaning we ate breakfast out every day but 1. Automatic coffee machines and juice machines etc and not that much food I felt for the amount of guests People are on holiday! they like a little bit of life and not everyone is up at the crack of dawn for coach trips.

please tell everyone to ring each other up via the phone system and not go around knocking on each others doors at 7am!! waking everyone else up.

"ditch the brown and yellow colour theme" It looks like something I stayed in Spain in 1973.

On the plus side, its very clean, staff are lovely, rooms are big and location is good, so it really depends what you are after. we had 2 rooms for 6 days and despite it being reasonable in terms of price, I think we could have done better in terms of ambience.

personally i preferred the decor at the Plaza just around the corner-lots of white, modern and funky in a good way and "of today" and we had a drink there most evenings--

Also wifi incredibly expensive if you need it--and we did.

Basically needs a refurb and a bit of life added but has the basic "bones" in place to be very good with a bit of thought.

Room Tip: we had one over the garden and this is what I would choose

Cesare Augusto is located very conveniently near the train/bus station and the city centre. It's only a few minutes walk from airport bus station to Cesare Augusto. We felt very welcome by the staff, and they we're helpful troughout our whole trip. The hotel and it's surroundings feel safe and most of all, it's quite clean.

A balcony facing the garden was ok, though the street noise was loud sometimes. But hey, that's life in the city. We liked the area on the roof where you can have drinks, go to the pool etc.

The rooms we're spacious but especially the bathrooms felt quite outdated. Biggest problem was not the street noise, but the noise from other rooms. At times, I could hear everything the neighbors talked. No privacy whatsoever. Also, the showers and water pipes kept annoying clunking noise. The beds we're very creeky and the breakfast is nothing to get excited about.

I would take one star out of the four that Cesare Augusto seems to have. Sad to say, but with the knowledge that I now have, I might be forced to pick another hotel than Cesare Augusto for my vacation in Sorrento.

Firstly, this is not a bad Hotel. The only problem was that we had booked a holiday with Thomas Cook in a quiet hotel along the coast with views over Naples bay, but were moved without being asked if it was OK. Arrived in Naples and, after waiting for over an hour for our bags to be retrieved from baggage handling at the airport, the Thomas Cook rep said we were being moved from the Jaccarino Hotel to this one. Arrived at the Hotel and were given the keys to room 121 - we told the consierge that we did not want a room on the main road and he said it was not. Turned out to be almoist in the main road. No sleep for the first night (and broken sleep the rest of the week) because of traffic noise. Complained about this to our rep next day but never got moved all week. We were given a bottle of wine, a bottlle of water and a balcony as recompense for our troubles. The room was big and very clean, but the balcony was so noisy that we hardly used it. Food in the hotel is good with plenty of choice. The only way to get any sort of sea view was to go onto the roof where view over roof tops showed Naples bay - no breakfast or evening meals were served up there missing a great opportunity. It is close to the rail and bus stations which is a good advantage. Close to the town centre and all town ammenities. We would never book a holiday in a noisy hotel so were greatly disappointed by this one (not the fault of the hotel but one of Thomnas Cook).

Room Tip: Make sure you pester the concierge if you get a noisy room. Don't go into room 121.

Our second visit to Sorrento did not dissapoint. Due largely to the hotel. The position was perfect, just a few minutes to the Piazza Tasso, where the evenings are fantastic. The staff were really friendly and helpful. The room was very comfortable and nicely furnished and the food was very good. Booking half board we thought that maybe we would go out for a few meals, but the evening meal was so nice we didnt go anywhere else. Can't recommend this hotel enough and we will definately go back.

I spent 6 nights here in June. I was in a group of 30 people. The rooms were very nice & the hotel is clean & safe. The location is very good. It is just a couple blocks from the main street in town. There are plenty of resaturants, shops & delis or grocery stores in the area.. We were near the train station & the city bus. We had a nice balcony, but not a very good view because we were on the 2nd floor on the back side of the hotel, but we would still sit outside for a while both morning & evening.. There is a nice pool on the roof which is on the 6th floor. There is also a restaurant & a bar. It is a lovely area. There are beautiful views. The only problem was that it was closed way too early. I believe it was 6pm. We were rarely back in time to enjoy the roof top area. There is also a nice garden area. Across the road, going toward the ocean are some ruins. Sorrento is a very beautiful city.
Our breakfast was included in the tour group we were traveling with. There was always several choices for breakfast. We also had dinner two nights at the hotel. The dinners were also good. They were also part of our package, so I do have any idea about prices.

I would someday like to return to Sorrento. I believe this is a very good hotel. Again, the lacation is very good.

This hotel was not our first choice but really not disappointing. In fact maybe the better situation as it is close to the town centre, railway and bus station. I live in the country and thought it would be noisy, nothing disturbed me. The staff are helpful and very pleasant. What an excellent menu, food great. All the hotel was spotless and bed linen changed three times a week and towels every day. We have just returned on the 13th July 2012 and would love to say thank you for the attention we were given. Certainly would return.
