THe Cesare Augusto on the Via dei Aranci is only 5 minutes walk away from Piazzo di Tasso, the main square of Sorrento. The Sorrento railway station is also only 5 minutes away and Herculaneum, Pompeii and Naples can be easily accessed. The rooms at the back overlook the garden and another busy but less noisy road than Via Aranci. These rooms have clear views of Vesuvius and to islands. When we were there (mid April) the 6th floor rooftop pool was not open but the views from this floor over Sorrento to the sea and Vesuvius are beautiful.
The rooms have solid and well maintained furniture and, although a little tired, the bathrooms are scrupulously clean. Our room, and I think almost all, had a tiled balcony with a neat metalwork table and chairs. The reception area is welcoming, as are the staff. In fact the staff are a main highlight of the hotel with efficient and friendly cleaning staff and waiters.
The evening meals were good and were carefully served and the breakfast has a good range. There was some effort to reflect local cuisine and there is a well priced wine list.
The downsides were the poorly functioning air conditioning which meant the balcony door had to be left open- but then we heard too much noise from the road.
Overall, a good choice for a central hotel.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the higher floors and overlooking the garden- quieter.

The hotel mainly caters for tour operators parties - when we were there they were mainly older people so we found the hotel an oasis of peace and quiet. We had two large, clean interconnected rooms on the top floor. On the main road side but with views up into the hills behind Sorrento. There is a nice urban garden and car park below the hotel.
It's a 5 minute walk to the old town.
The breakfast was good, whole place very clean and staff friendly and helpful.

Train station a short 10 minute walk and this is the best way to visit Pompeii as the roads are narrow, busy and a challenge to drive to and from Sorrento on.

Free wi-fi was a bonus, but no A/c and even the fan was not working on our stays.
The road we overlooked was busy and noisy - but the double glazing is good. We had the council strip and resurface the road from 10pm to 2am the nights we were there and hardly heard them!

Room Tip: Higher up and the road side seems to offer nice views, alternatively anywhere on the rear (town) sid...

Stayed for two nights as part of Globus Italian Mosaic tour. The hotel is in a fantastic location - a very short walk to the plaza (about 1 or 2 blocks). We stayed in room 101 which was large with a balcony and had a 'view' of part of the garden. The floor was totally tiled in very green and very floral tiles, but not 'offensive', sort of kitsch. There was a 2-seater sofa which was appreciated. We could open the balcony door to allow fresh air in and it wasn't noisy as the street was a small one. The bathroom was fairly good with great shower pressure. No tea and coffee and no tissues (yet again!! Italy really seems to have a blind spot with these things that I consider pretty basic). Wifi was free but not very strong so a bit tenuous to do what we wanted. There is a nice pool on the roof which we made sure we had some sun time around. Staff were helpful, but some were a bit reserved. Breakfast was good - variety (still LOTS of very sweet offerings??!) and well set out. I'd definitely stay here again and hope to one day do so as Sorrento is a beautiful place that we didn't get to explore anywhere near enough.

Sorry, I was one of those American tourists coming off a bus. Cesare Augusto was the hotel of choice on a tour. It was fine. Clean, lots of hot water, big enough for 2 people, and comfortable beds. The food was more than adequate at breakfast and the catered meals were very good. It was perfectly located--a short walk (1 block) to the plaza. My only complaint was that the wine at the bar was from little airplane-type bottles and not drinkable. But go to a grocery and get a bottle of pretty good wine for 5 euros.

The initial impression was good. It was very central with a immense and elegant lobby and friendly staff. So far so good. The rooms were large and rather sparse, but not unpleasantly so, although the bathroom looked like it could do with a refit. On closer inspection however, the bathroom revealed some horrors. The floor and the bidet were covered in black pubic hairs! When I lifted up the fluffy bath mat, more dust and hair fell out of it and it is clear that hadn't been washed for some time. Later I needed an extra blanket from the wardrobe, which was dusty and had dark stains on it. There were also silverfish in the bathroom. Needless to say, I didn't enjoy my stay. We had half board and ate dinner in the hotel in the evening. It was surprisingly tasty, however, I couldn't help wondering how dirty the kitchen was, so I couldn't really enjoy it. The staff in the dining room were absolutely lovely, though, so it is a great shame that the cleaner(s) were so negligent.

Just back from a wonderful stay in Sorrento. Hotel is in a perfect location to explore the city and visit Capri from the harbour. Stayed half board and food was great ! Staff friendly especially the lovely waiter Ugo, funny and attentive!

Room Tip: Higher rooms overlooking the gardens are quieter.

This hotel was a last minute substitute for the hotel we should have been in. Our fears of being in a poor hotel were not realised. On arrival our check-in was quick and simple. We were in our room within a few minutes with our chunky key! The staff were very helpful and friendly, we had a balcony with a view of vesuvius. Would have been nice to have tea and coffee making facilities but everything was clean and tidy. Located 5mins from the bus/train station and main square/shops, an easy 15min walk to capri ferry....albeit downhill.. say 20 back up. Good choice at breakfast and dinner, food well cooked and generous portions, would have liked more choices without cheese but its a personal dietary thing. Would recommend.
