“Nice Hotel, great location”
Reviewed 11 July 2014

Spent 3 nights here - excellent experience. I chose it for location and the good reviews and am very glad I did. Its less than 5 min walk from Sorrento Circumvesuviana railway station and less than 5 min walk from the main centre of Sorrento. Use Circumvesuviana to get from Naples (less than 5 euros each - for 1hr 10 min journey time) then use Circumvesuviana to go to Pompeii and Herculaneaum for day trips during your stay spending evenings in lovely Sorrento. Lots of tour guests in hotel but we travelled independently and had a great experience.

Room Tip: Our room was to front on the road but still very quiet so not worries about noise.

Perfect location, 5 minutes to the Circumvesuviana train-station and bus stops for Amalfi-coast (however I don't recommend anybody to take these buses...). Staff was nice, good English, helpfull.
Room is large, balcony with sea view, AC works perfectly. Pool is small, but usable, with sunbeds, good place to relax. Beach is 10-15 minutes walk, and must be paid cc.30-35 euro/2 persons for a day (sunbeds etc). Shops and supermarkets nearby, restaurants as well. Nice garden in the backside of the hotel, peaceful and silent to take a break.

Sorrento sites reachable by walk.

Wifi was not working in the room, only in the reception area, and when we told to the guy at the receptin, it seems he knows it. After 3 days, miracle happend, and the wifi started to work in the room as well:) Breakfast is POOR for a 4 star hotel: no vegetables at all, poor offer of bread or "light" products. Breakfast room needs some cleaning and is outdated, with some communistic outfit... Pool area is not cleaned at all...

Great location close to the main square but the hotel is quite dated and in need of refurbishment. Rooms facing the main road are quite noisy. However, staff are wonderful and very helpful. Breakfast is typically Italian - poor - and we went out to a café most days. Rooms are very clean and a decent size but bathrooms are dated but functional.

Room Tip: Ask for a room that does not face the main road as this is quite noisy

Returned home yesterday after 9 days at Cesare Augusto. We had a 5th floor room that was spacious and clean with a large balcony . I am not sure why people complain about traffic noise, this is Sorrento and if you stay in the centre or along Corsa Italia the noise of scooters can be loud for me it's part of the atmosphere, when the balcony doors are closed it is not a problem. This was our 9th visit to Sorrento and the hotel suited our needs for a B&B in a central position at a very reasonable price. Personally I have had better breakfasts in Italy but I have also had worse.

Room Tip: Fifth floor rooms overlooking the garden

Just returned from 7 days at The Cesare Augusto where we found the hotel to be a bit shabby and in need of modernising. The bedrooms are of a good size as is the bathroom however a complete overhaul is required to bring upto 4 star standard, the rooms are cleaned daily so no complaints here. The amenities in the hotel are limited, there is a small roof top pool with great views of Vesuvias and The Bay of Naples which is lovely. The alcohol on offer in the Hotel is very expensive which will account for the empty bar areas. The breakfast is just ok not a great choice and is very repetitive, we cant comment on the evening meals but for 25 euro each you get better value in the many restaurants in Sorrento. To sum up the Hotel is ok not bad value for money but the excellent location is its best feature.

Room Tip: 5th Floor for best views

stayed at cesare augusto 24 june for 1 week with my wife. room on 3rd floor was spacious and clean with a balcony and safe , good size bathroom . free air con and wifi . there were enough options at breakfast and also for the 3 course evening meals . great location but the best thing about this hotel are the staff who were fun and helpful throughout . special mentions to Mario in dining room and Genarro at the bar .

Room Tip: 5th floor room facing Vesuvious would be best

Great location as it is close to the main square, shops, restaurants and rail/bus station. We stayed on the 4th floor overlooking the street, and we didn't find it particularly noisy at all. The hotel could do with up-dating a little as some of the furnishings were a bit tired looking, but overall the hotel and our room were kept very clean. We did not eat in the hotel as we preferred to try the local restaurants, but breakfast was generally good and there was always plenty of choice. Would definitely stay here again.
