For those with a short attention span: It’s super clean, room's are comfortable and the food’s great.

Booked with Thomson on Wednesday 16th October travelling the following Monday.

Arriving at the hotel after 10.30pm check in was swift and after we were given our room card we were told that there was food (cold meat, cheese, roasted vegetables and stuffed tomato) for us in the restaurant which was most welcome.

Breakfast. There is something for everyone. Excellent buffet breakfast with tea and coffee brought to the table. Real fresh orange and grapefruit juices.

Evening meal. You’ll put weight on. Menu displayed outside restaurant each morning with several choices of starter, main and dessert (more than one vegetarian option). Self service Italian salad bar which was more than just a salad bar with a big choice of both warm and cold food. A chef/kitchen can’t please everyone all the time but it was cooked and presented to a good standard and everything we had we enjoyed (don’t understand people who poor salt onto their food before even tasting it). In hindsight I might have swapped a main course with that of another starter on a few occasions but there’s always next time. All meals were taken at the same (private-no shared tables here) table for the whole week.

Sunday night was a gala night with a set menu where everyone sits down together. We were left an order form for drinks the previous evening so our drinks would be brought to the table to save time and free up the waiting on staff to serve food.

Drinks. House wine (locally from Ravello) was Euro 12.00/bottle and they happily put away anything left over for the next evening. Sparkling water (1litre) 2.50, fresh juice 3.00 and a beer 3.50.

Staff. Front desk, waiters, pool chap, driver, cleaners et al. All very nice and helpful and we wouldn’t like to single out any one person as they were all good.

Swimming pool. Excellent and used it every day. Towels provided at pool side. Bar and snack bar area with seating area with a garden beyond that. Chairs and loungers around pool area.

Gym. Didn’t use or even look in room.

Room 322. Back of the hotel (see pictures) no views and at first we were a bit disappointed but it was cool and quiet being away from the road noise. Had we had the choice we probably would have opted for a room with some sort of view but the hotel was fully booked. Electronic card for room entry and electrics. Small terrace with folding clothes dryer and a table and 2 chairs. Lots of storage space. Lots of mirrors, safe (laptop sized), 2 plug points, small fridge (stocked with drinks but spare room for a couple of bottles of your own) flat screen TV with information service. BBC news and CH4. Bed was comfortable. Walk in shower with good shower pressure, good hairdryer (so I’m informed). Towels changed daily (twice if you didn’t hang them up) and bed linen changed mid-week. Air con was appreciated as it was still quite hot late evening.

Wi-fi (code from reception) in room and public areas was reliable.

Cleanliness was of the highest quality throughout the whole hotel. Hand sanitiser outside main restaurant.

Location. Part way up a hill just under 2 miles outside the town (towards Massa Lubrense). You can walk into Sorrento (with care) in about 40 minutes. Courtesy bus runs on the hour every hour and was always punctual.

We would happily return to this hotel.

We had booked to stay at another hotel but they closed early so we were relocated to the La Solara. We were concerned as we thought as we hadn't booked with them originally and was moved only 3 weeks before our holiday we thought we might be left with what was left. How wrong we were, we were treated extremely well with a pool room view with a bit of sea at the end of the balcony too. The room was lovely and big, exceptionally clean and maintained.

The staff in all areas were exceptional, the food fantastic and was even cooked a fresh sea bass one night as I didn't fancy the one on the menu with a sauce, it was gorgeous. Nothing is too much trouble and we were pleased we had been moved in the end.

We could not fault this hotel, it is fantastic.

Thank you.

The Hoy family

We had an amazing honeymoon in Sorrento, largely because of the brilliant service and staff at La Solara. We stayed half board.

The hotel is situated at the top of a medium slope, our bags were picked up at the bottom of the slope and delivered to reception by an electric trolley by the porter.

On arrival we got complimentary sparking wine. Check in was very easy, we were allocated room 216, we'd paid for a sea view... the view was brilliant. We had a balcony with two chairs and a table and an incredible view of the little port of Marina di Puolo and the sea beyond. The sea was misty for our whole holiday, so we don't know if you cam see any of the surrounding bay of Naples.

Food for our entire stay was incredible. Authentic Italian every day. I would recommend items marked 'chef's choice' and regional dishes as these give you some brilliant Neapolitan dishes.

Cold drinks at the bar or poolside are supplied with complimentary peanuts.
Hot drinks are supplied with complimentary biscotti selection.
Evening meals all have a pre starter antipasti salad selection, buffet, help yourself style, so if you so wish, every meal is four courses.
If you order wine with your Evening meal and you don't finish the whole bottle in one night, the waiter will save it for you and serve it again the next day so you don't feel compelled to drink a whole bottle.

If you are half board you are able to swap evening meals for lunch. We did this when we wanted to sample restaurants in Sorrento. Lunch was tasty and huge portions!

The free hotel shuttle bus operates every hour, the first being at 07:50 every other on the hour up till 23:00. Pick up in Sorrento is a short walk from Piazza Tasso (the main square in Sorrento) and these are every quarter past the hour, the last pick up at 23:15.

The shuttle bus is reserved for La Solara guests only so isn't overly busy. It only seats 20 so in peak of the season could be over subscribed, but it certainly wasn't in late October.

We didn't rate location as excellent because the excursions, should you book any sometimes can't pick you up conveniently due to the sharp left turn that is required to get into the hotel pick up area. The turn is too sharp for large busses. This means pickups coming from Sorrento towards Massa Lubrense have to turn around and come back in the other direction. This can add ten minutes to your wait and doesn't impress the people on the coach. This was a very minor inconvenience, all in all.

The pool is nice and is said to be the only heated pool in Sorrento. I'm not sure if it actually was heated but it was ok for us to swim in October, but it did shut at sunset, which is frustrating should you wish to have a late swim. In October the pool was shut at 17:30. 22 metres long and reasonably deep, but not deep enough for diving. You can still do lengths and feel like you are exercising. Lovely on a hot afternoon.

In summary, we loved the hotel. The staff didn't know it was our honeymoon either, so we were getting the same service as everyone else. We are already planning our next visit to Sorrento and we will stay at La Solara again.

Room Tip: Ask for sea view, it is well worth it.

This was a last minute decision to go to Sorrento and we weren't sure where to stay, so on seeing the reviews on Tripadvisor, decided to stay at La Solara. We were not disappointed. We aren't used to staying in hotels on a weekly basis or going on package deals, so were not entirely sure what to expect, but the hotel was very warm and friendly and very clean and tidy. The food was good and plenty of it. We did not upgrade our room, so thought we would end up with something very basic with no view, but we were wrong. The room was a decent size and although the balcony looked directly on the a wall, to the side was a view of the sea which was lovely and we were able to move the chairs round comfortably to admire it. The hotel is modern with a little bit of a 70's feel lacking the Italian decor I had hoped for, but the friendliness of the people running the hotel and its slightly out of town location, certainly made up for it. It had a very good hourly courtesy bus to take you into the centre of Sorrento. The pool and its facilities looked very good, although we did not use them. One slight disappointment was that we thought the grounds were much larger, looking at the main picture of the hotel, but of course it was the surrounding lemon and olive groves which are everywhere. Having now visited Sorrento, we know you do not get much land with any property there! All in all a very good holiday. If we ever go to Sorrento again we would not hesitate to stay at La Solara.

A late deal package break to La Solara and we were not disappointed in our accommodation.. The success of this hotel is due to the exceptional level of service that all the staff provide. They are cheerful, polite and no request is too much trouble. Our room was of a good size with an extremely comfortable bed and was kept spotlessly clean throughout our stay with regular fresh crisp bed linen. Being a "foodie", I would comment that the food served in the restaurant did not quite come up to our expectations;and I was a little disappointed on this front. It was a little bland sometimes and I felt lacked seasoning. Interesting we had lunch around the pool on a couple of occasions and this was excellent. Overall a very enjoyable stay.

Room Tip: Room 122 (1st floor) balcony overlooks a flat top roof towards a hill top and does not really get mu...

Having scrutinised the review of this hotel on trip advisor before booking, we were not left disappointed, everything was what we hoped it would be if not better, the hotel was lovely and clean and for us ideally situated just out of Sorrento town which wasnt a problem as the shuttle bus service the hotel provided was excellent and ran every hour from 9am until 11pm. The hotel pool was very clean and also heated. The food in the hotel was lovely and plentiful. The staff were all very friendly and lovely with our 6 year old son especially Nello in the restaurant who made the extra effort with him. We would return without hesitation.

Fantastic hotel. Be aware that it is not walking distance to Sorrento - but there is an hourly bus which works very well. As someone mentioned it is actually great to be able to get back to the peace and quiet. But if you want to be able to dip in and out of your hotel room this probably won't be for you. The staff are without doubt the best team I have ever seen in a hotel - an absolute master class in how to run a hotel. If anyone from BW is reading this they should get someone over to Italy. We have a two year old daughter - and the patience from the waiters and the all the staff was amazing. Examples - one waiter feeding our little girl when she was getting distracted, the front desk member of staff meeting us when we got back from town with a sweet for her. It is so easily done - smiles and how are yous but so easily forgotten by so many hotels - whatever the rating. The rooms are a good size - I would suggest pool view as you get glimpses of the sea (go as high up as possible). The evening meals were great - the breakfasts fine. If you want to really feel how friendly this hotel is go and shop in Capri - it is like coming home!

Room Tip: Pool view - high up. Sea view rooms are looking over a road and then a valley.
