“Just Excellent”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 12 April 2014

Just returned from a week at La Solara in Sorrento and my stay has motivated me to post my first comment on this site. The quality of the restaurant and reception staff was exceptional, always happy and polite while enjoying a friendly laugh. I stay in a lot of hotels and very few world wide can match the guys and girls here. Thank you, again excellent trip.

We recently spent 4 nights in this hotel and are already hoping to make a return trip. While the hotel is a bit out of Sorrento, the hotel provides a handy shuttle service to and from the centre of town. The location is high on a hill over-looking the Bay of Naples and the view is breath-taking. Sorrento seems to us to be a good home base for trips to the Amalfi coast, Capri and Pompeii. We found it to be a very clean, quiet and friendly hotel. All the staff, from the bar staff to the diningroom/breakfast room staff, to the housekeeping staff to the front desk staff were wonderful. Carmine, in particular, who works at the front desk went above and beyond the call of duty helping us out when the airline were were booked on to go home went on strike. The complimentary bottle of wine in our room on our arrival was a real treat. We don't often eat in the hotel diningrooms when we're on holiday, but had occasion to do so twice while we were here. We weren't disappointed at all. The food was very good.

Took a package Thomson holiday to Sorrento. Half board Booked within 2 weeks of travel.
The hotel is extremely clean and tidy. All of the staff seemed to be genuinely accommodating, from the cleaning staff to the hotel manager. Food is excellent. Plenty of choice, and excellent service. The prices for wine with meals is excellent value with a bottle of wine from €11, with other drinks comparable with a medium priced restaurant.
The Hotel is located a 10 minute drive from Sorrento. The courtesy bus runs hourly from the Hotel to Sorrento. Shuttle bus looks brand new, and is constantly kept clean and tidy by the driver.

Our week was the second of the 2104 season, and we experienced a few teething problems. One was to do with a faulty piece of gym equipment, which the Hotel dealt with quickly and efficiently, although the same cannot be said of the sub-contractor who was called to make the fix, who tried on two occasions, and then needed to order a part.

The bed rooms are spacious, clean and tidy. The electronic safe in the room gave some piece of mind in terms of storing cash and passports. The room floors are all tiled, and as the hotel is of steel and concrete construction, the transference of noise is an issue. In particular, be aware that footsteps from an upstairs room are very apparent, as are children running around.

We experienced some major connection issues with the internet. As a business owner, choosing this hotel because of internet in each room was a key reason for going there. However I experienced really low internet speeds, so much so several applications timed out meaning that I had to take a trip to Sorrento to do some work during the week. You should also be aware that the internet is provided by a third party, which meant regularly having to log on using a code provided by the hotel in your internet browser, so each time you wanted to connect you have to enter credentials. So don't expect your phone to autoconnect and do it's stuff in the background, it won't.
As it happens, the wireless access point in my room had a fault. A special thank you to Carmine, one of the hotel staff, who was superb in getting the contractor out to fix it, and being able to translate technical IT terms to the contractor to fix it quickly.

Mobile phone coverage is also very patchy. I found a spot on the terrace adjacent to the pool where a conversation could be maintained without being disconnected, but with occasional dropout. This happened with Vodafone, Wind and TIM networks. Coverage in the room was very hit and miss.

For many, the issues with internet and GSM will not be of any issue, after all as I was told by one other guest, I am supposed to be on holiday!

There were some maintenance jobs being attended to during our visit. It looked like all of the metal railings had been recently painted, and a significant effort had clearly been made ahead of the 2014 season.

The pool is apparently the only heated outdoor pool in Sorrento. It is of a size to put many UK municipal pools to shame. It is clean, modern and large. The staff are keen and attentive, and the pool area is safe for kids. The sun loungers and umbrellas are all good quality and all worked.

In reception, there are a number of awards being shown. It is not surprising. The staff in particular were excellent throughout. They speak excellent English, but encourage you to use a little Italian. The hotel offer 2 hours of Italian lessons with a tutor per week. This is free of charge and well worth it.

No doubt if you are reading this, you have already done some homework on what is on the tourist trail in the bay of Naples and Amalphi coast. If this is somewhere you choose to visit, La Solara is a hotel you won't be disappointed with.

Room Tip: Some rooms have view over the sea (approx. West facing). rooms overlooking the pool are South facin...

Second successive year for my wife and I at La Solara and once again we enjoyed our stay. The service is excellent, the staff friendly and everything is kept very clean. The very small wall safes that people used to comment on have been replaced by modern combination safes in the wardrobe area which was a small but welcome improvement. The shuttle bus is reliable and takes you within a short walk to the train station to Pompeii or even into Napes. Whether you're spending a day relaxing outside by the pool or going further afield for the day, the Solara makes for an excellent base.
We've still got things we want to see or see again in the wider Bay of Naples area so we will be returning to La Solara on 29 August 2014.

like many others we were here because our original hotel decided to close early.
we had seen photographs of the room which we had originally booked which looked stunning
so to be honest, when we arrived at our room at La Solara we were a bit disappointed
as this is what I would call a traditional Italian hotel. there are tiled floors throughout and someone was walking around above us in high heels so we didnt get off to a good start
however
after a couple of days this felt like home
I can honestly say that I have never met friendlier or more helpfull staff in any of the hotels in which I have stayed
and the consistent high quality of the food was outstanding
so well done to you at La Solara and we wouldnt hesitate in staying here again

The hotel is based away from the bustle of beautiful Sorento alongside a winding road overlooking the sea. Rooms well looked after and bathroom was particularly spacious. Ours was on the side so we had a fairly generous view of the sea whilst the opposite side overlooked the swimming pool. The best rooms are to the front with stunning views over the sea to Capri. The back rooms had a balcony facing the olive grove.
Staff really friendly .
Food could not be faulted and we were even given a packed lunch for our flight home.
We had a gala night dinner around the swimming pool with candles and music with a very sumptuous meal which was delightful.
Possibly because children were back at school ,the swimming pool was peaceful and adults only at the time of our stay.
The hotel shuttle bus ran regularly back and forth to town every hour and if you missed one it was no hardship to sit and have a drink and people watch until the next one.
Highly Recommended.

For those with a short attention span: It’s super clean, room's are comfortable and the food’s great.

Booked with Thomson on Wednesday 16th October travelling the following Monday.

Arriving at the hotel after 10.30pm check in was swift and after we were given our room card we were told that there was food (cold meat, cheese, roasted vegetables and stuffed tomato) for us in the restaurant which was most welcome.

Breakfast. There is something for everyone. Excellent buffet breakfast with tea and coffee brought to the table. Real fresh orange and grapefruit juices.

Evening meal. You’ll put weight on. Menu displayed outside restaurant each morning with several choices of starter, main and dessert (more than one vegetarian option). Self service Italian salad bar which was more than just a salad bar with a big choice of both warm and cold food. A chef/kitchen can’t please everyone all the time but it was cooked and presented to a good standard and everything we had we enjoyed (don’t understand people who poor salt onto their food before even tasting it). In hindsight I might have swapped a main course with that of another starter on a few occasions but there’s always next time. All meals were taken at the same (private-no shared tables here) table for the whole week.

Sunday night was a gala night with a set menu where everyone sits down together. We were left an order form for drinks the previous evening so our drinks would be brought to the table to save time and free up the waiting on staff to serve food.

Drinks. House wine (locally from Ravello) was Euro 12.00/bottle and they happily put away anything left over for the next evening. Sparkling water (1litre) 2.50, fresh juice 3.00 and a beer 3.50.

Staff. Front desk, waiters, pool chap, driver, cleaners et al. All very nice and helpful and we wouldn’t like to single out any one person as they were all good.

Swimming pool. Excellent and used it every day. Towels provided at pool side. Bar and snack bar area with seating area with a garden beyond that. Chairs and loungers around pool area.

Gym. Didn’t use or even look in room.

Room 322. Back of the hotel (see pictures) no views and at first we were a bit disappointed but it was cool and quiet being away from the road noise. Had we had the choice we probably would have opted for a room with some sort of view but the hotel was fully booked. Electronic card for room entry and electrics. Small terrace with folding clothes dryer and a table and 2 chairs. Lots of storage space. Lots of mirrors, safe (laptop sized), 2 plug points, small fridge (stocked with drinks but spare room for a couple of bottles of your own) flat screen TV with information service. BBC news and CH4. Bed was comfortable. Walk in shower with good shower pressure, good hairdryer (so I’m informed). Towels changed daily (twice if you didn’t hang them up) and bed linen changed mid-week. Air con was appreciated as it was still quite hot late evening.

Wi-fi (code from reception) in room and public areas was reliable.

Cleanliness was of the highest quality throughout the whole hotel. Hand sanitiser outside main restaurant.

Location. Part way up a hill just under 2 miles outside the town (towards Massa Lubrense). You can walk into Sorrento (with care) in about 40 minutes. Courtesy bus runs on the hour every hour and was always punctual.

We would happily return to this hotel.
