From the very moment my wife and I arrived we were made extremely welcome, before checking in we were shown into the lounge for a glass of champagne and nibbles to wind down after the drive from Naples airport. The Hotel is situated just outside Sorrento in the hills overlooking the bay, our room number 220 had a commanding view of the bay area and was very comfortably appointed - just a small snag - sometimes the shower pressure was low - I guess because of so many people in this fifty eight room hotel wanting to shower at the same time before dinner. All the staff without exception were very friendly and attentive and nothing was too much trouble.

Room Tip: Room 220 would be a good choice.

Dear La Solara friends Harrykendrick,
We just have to thank you for the nice words had.
Our staff being aware of your comments makes them happy for their hard work .
Due to the lack of water pressure on the main line water supply have unfortunately had a leak and it took a few days to adjust.
The management hopes to see you again in the near future once again to give you our best service.
Greetings from Sorrento and from all of us

Totally agree with other reviews that the staff are this hotels greatest asset. The location is lovely but not handy if you need to pop out to shops etc. After a long day visiting Capri got back 6.30 time for a freshen up then dinner. Wanted to go shopping as it was our last day But dinner finished around nine so too late to go into sorrento shopping. Not a big deal but worth noting. Food was lovely very generous portions and restaurant manager very accommodating was very happy to give the kids alternative meals if they didn't fancy anything on the menu. Hotel was immaculate but have to agree with previous review that the bathrooms etc aren't luxurious and some rooms at the side of the hotel have small balconies and overlook the pool and not the bay. Myself and my daughter had a sea view our room was on floor 3 we also had a lovely large balcony and a bath which was handy as she's only 8. My husband and son had a side room above the pool which unfortunately wasn't as nice. I would definitely go back to this hotel and am grateful to the previous reviewers for taking the time to write their reviews. Really helpful.

Room Tip: Floor 3 or above at front of hotel has best views. My room 312 had huge balcony and a bath Side ro...

Dear Mmb425,
Thank you for your comment and for your kind words for our staff, our service.
Our hard work is rewarded by your comments and we are proud for what we may offer to our valuable guests.
Sorry that you were not satisfied for one of the two rooms but we have to say that, unfortunately, not all rooms have a sea view with a large terrace. These rooms are the most expensive. T
he rooms with balconies overlooking the garden / pool have a balcony ( circa 1mt60 3mt60 x) are less expensive.
We hope to have you again with us and we try to make your stay with us an unforgettable.

As a frequent traveller I can say this is the best holiday hotel I have stayed in, the food is almost fine dining, totally outstanding.
The staff are very attentive nothing was too much trouble and the rooms were spotless, we were surprised on arrival that there were no tea making facilities in our room we queried this and in less than 10 minutes it was delivered to us and kept replenished throughout our stay.
The location was lovely surrounded by lemon and olive groves, although the hotel is 3 km from Sorrento this was not a problem as there is a courtesy bus which runs every hour between 08.00 to 23.00 .

Room Tip: third or forth floor you get a sea view

Having just come back from a short stay at the La Solara, deciding what we should score them has proven harder to decide than usual. What we found here, was a crack-team of staff, who consistently delivered excellent customer service, day or night. However, we felt the hotel was slightly let down by the finer details, hence our score of 4/5.

Most aspects of the hotel were great, for example, the main thing that comes to mind aside from the customer service, was the food, which was great night after night. Breakfast came in a buffet style, with the typical things you'd expect on offer, like hot and cold drinks (the coffee and orange juice were very nice) toast, pastries, cold meats, yoghurt, and so on. Going back to my main point about the finer details, the belt-style toaster in the dining room was causing a lot of issues, and created a big queue of people waiting to get toast. The people at the front had to put their toast through the machine about 20 times just to get it browned - through sheer luck, my piece(s) got jammed, so came out perfectly when they finally became dislodged. Dinner was also great, expect a choice of three dishes (with a salad bar) Monday to Saturday, and on Sunday, they hold their Gala Dinner, where they serve a set four-course menu, with piano accompaniment. This was also very nice, but didn't have a salad bar, but isn't a big deal due to the amount of food being served.

The hotel itself is set in a beautiful location on the hills, overlooking the shore - you can sit in the bar area and look out across the water, which is very nice indeed. The public areas of the hotel all have a nice Mediterranean style decor, and are spotlessly clean, as were the rooms. We stayed in a room overlooking the pool, the view was mainly obstructed by the room below, but still had a view into the hills at the back. Luckily, we didn't have any real problems, we can see why other reviewers mention issues with noise, as the sound proofing isn't great, so we could hear people in the corridors, and walking on the ceiling above. The room itself was nice enough, but was slightly let down by its decor (again, the finer details) with some slightly old furniture. Added to this, the bathroom lacked the finesse I expected from a hotel held in such high esteem. On the wall was a mounted hair dryer, which was very weak indeed, and made drying your hair much harder and time consuming than it needed to be. When we arrived, we also dismissed that there was no kettle in the room, assuming this wasn't commonplace, however, as one of us was ill, the staff kindly provided us with a kettle and a few sachets - so remember to ask if this is important to you. Added to this, the hotel provides free Wi-Fi, but you'll need to ask at the main desk to get a passcode to use this in your devices. It doesn't just work as you might expect, you'll need to keep the paper handy, as you have to sign in every time to you want to use it, unless you get your device to remember the login details. Whilst the Wi-Fi worked, it wasn't the best, so don't expect to do anything other than light browsing. Also, the room we were in didn't have great mobile reception, and I had to make a few calls out the front of the hotel, where I could get a signal okay.

As mentioned in the first paragraph, the staff were faultless, from the manager down to the maids who cleaned our room. The manager, Mr. Di Maio has assembled a great team of people, all of which were very good at their job, and should be proud of what they are offering their customers. The flourishes they offer, like a free bottle of a very nice red wine (which you can also buy at dinner for €12), offering a drink on arrival, and a packed breakfast when you leave) are all nice details, and add to the experience.

Thinking of other tips I could offer fellow visitors, I would offer the following suggestions:

We travelled here with Thomson (who we found to be more of a hinderance than help - but that's another story…) and arrived after a 2 hour or so long transfer, (much longer than the 45m specified!) due to the traffic. As our flights left at 6.15am, we arrived in Naples just after 9am, after the long-winded transfer we were greeted by the manager, who ushered everyone through to the bar. Here, they offered us a free glass of champagne, and a bowl of snacks. Although this was a lovely gesture, once we'd finished this, it felt like we couldn't leave and no-one mentioned about when we could go to our room. As such I went to the front desk to ask when we could check in, only to be told that the rooms weren't usually ready until 4pm, but to check back in 30 minutes, so we had to walk about the hotel and check back later on. I don't think the hotel is to blame here, but given that we had been awake since 4am the previous morning, we really just wanted to go to our room, and this would have been much nicer than having to sit in the bar, without being able to freshen up first.

Also, there were a couple of families staying in the hotel at the same time. I make this observation not as a parent, just with previous experience as being a child bored on holiday, that I didn't see a great deal of things for kids to do, there was pretty much just the pool, and that was it. The same went for entertainment, and on the days we were there, there wasn't anything in the evening aside from someone playing the keyboard on Sunday evening, so people looking for something at night, might want to venture into town, but just be aware that the last shuttle bus is 11.45pm.

Finally, to re-iterate, don't be afraid to ask the staff if you need anything, on the whole we found everyone to be very accommodating, and went the extra mile where they could. For example, the front desk offer a really useful service where they lend you chargers, and helped us out when we accidentally brought the wrong adaptor with us. They also kindly brought tea making facilities up to our room at 4am, when one of us wasn't very well.

In all, we would stay again in the future, but may be tempted to see what other places Sorrento has to offer.

Room Tip: Our room didn't have the best view - would go for one with a sea view next time.

Dear Claire H,
We thank you so much for the precious time spent on commenting your stay.
Thank you, as well, for reporting that you had an excellent stay.
We are continually striving to improve the hospitality we offer, and comments from our guests are always welcome.
We are sorry you had to wait time to have your room but, as you've observed with you have arrived many other customers, it takes time to do our work perfectly and the rooms have been left in the day of your arrival.
In the hope to have you again with us in the next future .
Best Regards from all of us.

We've just returned from our second stay at La Solara, and it did not disappoint. The staff (most of whom we recognised from our first visit) were very welcoming, friendly, diligent and hard working, nothing was too much trouble. The food was amazing, certainly spoilt for choice, delicious, plentiful and always beautifully presented. The views from the dining room were spectacular, with stunning sunsets and always Mount Vesuvius dominating the Bay of Naples. Our room was tastefully furnished, spotlessly clean as evident everywhere in the hotel. It was obvious that the staff took pride in their work and ensured that our stay was going to be a memorable one. We look forward to revisiting this hillside jewel which is La Solara.

We have just returned from Sorrento after a memorable holiday with Thomson holidays. The Solara is a very special gem set in the hillside overlooking the Bay of Naples with wonderful views even from the side rooms. The caring staff have mastered the art of providing a very welcoming, peaceful and relaxed holiday atmosphere. Every detail has been considered resulting in a hotel stay that provided all we could wish for and more. A genuine family feeling has been created with kindness and outstanding service always given.
The whole hotel is spotless and fresh with no obvious maintenance issues to be seen. There are tasteful paintings and pictures in public areas; the lounge furniture is clean and comfortable; the bedrooms simply furnished with high quality furniture and very comfortable beds.
Outside the beautiful heated pool and scenic sun lounging areas with the nearby bar and dining areas provide a wonderful place to while away the hours in the sun.
Last but not least the quality breakfasts and dinners of huge variety were always looked forward to in the dining room with views and sunsets to die for.
We plan to return as soon as possible to this magical area of Italy with so much to see.

Room Tip: Front and side rooms have sea views and the rear rooms overlook the pool and the hillside.

We've just returned from a week at La Solara and we are over the moon with our stay and the service we received. The staff team is small and they work so hard, you normally see the same staff morning, afternoon and evening. They are all warm and welcoming and provide and excellent service.
Our room was lovely, we were on the first floor with a balcony and sea view which was definitely worth paying for. The view was beautiful and it was a great spot to catch the afternoon sun. The cleaners always ensured it was spotless, as was the rest of the hotel.
The pool area is a lovely sunbathing spot with more great views of the sea.
We certainly ate well during our stay! the food was excellent with plenty of choice every day. The dining area is beautiful with great views of the sea. In the evening you get to see the most lovely sunsets while you enjoy your food.
There is an hourly shuttle bus into the town which always ran on time. It drops you off and picks you up from the from the same spot which is easy to find.
Sorrento itself is great spot for visiting nearby attractions. Pompeii, Herculaneum, and Vesuvius are a must. I even managed to reach the top of Vesuvius whilst being 23 weeks pregnant!!
We really enjoyed our stay and we will look forward to our next visit.

Room Tip: Rooms with balcony and see view are well worth paying for
