“It really lives up to its reputation!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 2 September 2009

I am a bit cynical about relying too much on trip advisor reviews, but this hotel was chosen because of the fantastic comments made consistently by all visitors and it was fantastic!!
The main reason for its success is undoudtedly the staff who all seem to go 'that extra half inch' to make every guest feel special and happy. Nothing is too much trouble for the reception staff who had to put up with me causing various problems including fusing the lights with my hairdryer, then fiddling in the fuse box to try to fix it myself.
Angelo, the bar manager is a true comedian - legendary. All the waiters were fantastic, especially Nello and Marchello. The pool area is clean and spacious. No need to get up at the crack of dawn to put towels down in thisa hotel!
Th erooms are clean, clean, clean and always smell gorgeous. The beds are a bit on the hard side, but we had no trouble sleeping due to the fact that wine is affordale and drinkable!!
The hotel is a little way out of Sorrento, but the shuttle bus is a reliable constant which offers the opportunity to escape if needed and the salvation of a safe return to the peaceful haven which is La Solara every hour until 11.15pm.
The food is amazing and the quality of food at dinner is awesome. The only problem with the food is that they do not know how to do a small portion!!!
This is definitely worthy of its excellent reviews. We would love to return, but can't help wondering if the sea view from the Bristol Hotel (which includes the marina areas would lure us there next time).

I picked La Solara on the strength of trip advisor reviews and was not at all disappointed. The hotel is one of the nicest places I have ever stayed. The rooms are super clean and the staff super attentive with buckets of Italian charm and friendliness. Nothing is too much trouble, even to supply our 12 year old with a more acceptable evening meal than was on the table d'hote menu (he loved the breaded chicken!). The gala dinner evening is lovely - made special by the staff who clearly enjoy the occasion.
The pool is large and scrupulously clean and you never fail to get a lounger or as many towels as you need courtesy of the pool manager.
The food was fantastic too - the waiting staff so friendly and attentive.

The location is a few miles out of sorrento, but that makes for a peaceful time as sorrento is quite frantic! The courtesy bus service is seamless and will even pick you up en route if you have not made it back to the designated pick up point - just wave frantically!

My only gripes - and these are very minor - is that it would be nice for a fridge to be supplied in the room as well as the mini bar and the hotel drinks are VERY expensive -but then again, so is Sorrento!! (€4 for small bottle of coke €8 for spirit & mixer) Wine is cheap by comparison, however, and very drinkable! (€12 for house wine)

The complimentary bottle of wine on arrival and evening chocolates on turndown are a lovely extra!!

The area as a whole is gorgeous, lots to see and do. Unfortunately (or not) we stayed during a heatwave so the day time temp was between 35 & 38 degrees which made a lot of our planned sightseeing impossible as you became drained - particularly our 12 year old. This just gives us an excuse to return however - definitely to La Solara!!

Thankyou very much to all the staff for a wonderful stay (room 424)

We have just returned from a wonderful holiday at this hotel and cannot praise it enough. The food is fantastic but far too much!!!!! It was lovely to be waited on. The room was tastefully decorated, clean and spacious. We even had a very small balcony which we hadn't paid any extra for. There were always sunbeds available, if now appeared free then the attentive pool staff very quickly put up a couple for you. A big plus was that they provided free pool towels and the sun beds at small canopies for your head so you could 'tan and read'. The shuttle bus into Sorrento was great and reliable. A couple of tips for the area - try the 24 hour bus pass, which only costs 6 euros to get to places. We went to Ravello on the bus and then took the boat back to save the 2 hour journey. The train was also excellent value. Try doing the trips yourself rather than the tour company's. We hope to return to the hotel sooner rather than later! SF

My husband, our teenager and I were booked at the hotel for 3 nights, Aug. 3-6. Originally we were only going to stay 2 nights so I booked online accordingly. We later decided to add another night but I was unable to modify the original booking so I made a new booking for the additional night. Upon checking in on the 3rd we were told by Antonio that they didn't have us in their system for the additional night even though I had a confirmation. He said they had had computer problems a few weeks earlier so likely didn't recieve the booking from the central reservation centre. He apologised and said that they would try their best to accommodate us but if they couldn't they would move us to a nearby hotel of similar standard. I emphasized that I was disappointed as I had booked this hotel based on the good reviews I had read. On the second night of our stay we checked on the status of the room and was told that we would have to move. We were skeptical about where they were going to put us but didn't have much choice. To their word, they took care of moving us seamlessley to the Hotel Vesuvus and gave us an upgraded room - a suite with a fabulous view and balcony. This hotel looked really nice but we didn't have the opportunity to check out our use the amenities, etc as we purposely moved there late since we were apprehensive about the move and we had to catch an early train the next morning. We did eat at the restaurant, the food was OK but it was very expensive.

The room at the La Solora was nice and clean, however we booked a room with a balcony at an additional cost but the view was a concrete wall from the room. If you went out on the balcony there was a partial sea view. I believe some of the second floor balcony rooms are like that. I understand that the pool was nice as my husband used it once. We didn't get a chance to go down to the little beach so I can't comment on that. The public areas were quite clean and seemed well kept. The breakfast was good and the dinner was enjoyable and good value for our money.

The best thing about this hotel was othe overall excellent service from all staff we interacted with. Antonio was outstanding and his colleagues were also very helpful. The chap on night duty on the 4th was extremely helpful unfortunately I don't remember his name.

The hotel is out of town as mentioned by other travelers but the shuttle made getting to the city quite easy.

I would definitely stay at this hotel again.

Just returned from a 2 1/2 week family vacation in Italy. We divided our time between Rome and Sorrento....a perfect balance. While in Rome we used Marriott points and stayed at the Marriott Grand Flora (also reviewd) and truely loved it. I am a big tripadvisor fan and used it to find our hotel in Sorrento...based on all the wonderful reviews we chose to stay at the Bestwestern La Solara. The hotel is lovely. Our room was a nice size, not large but not too small either. We were on the first floor with an ocean view. I was a little disappointed because I had requested a higher floor and was told at check in that no rooms were available. I would recommend calling the week before arrival to reinforce this request....the higher floors have a better view. The room was clean but we did have a problem with ants one morning which was quickly addressed by the front desk staff. The staff is what makes this place so special!!!!! Everyone that we had contact with was fabulous.....the front desk staff, the restaurant staff, the pool staff and the bar staff.....all top notch!!!! We enjoyed breakfast every morning, especially the pastry that is served warm...yum!!! We ate dinner in the hotel restaurant one evening after a long day in Capri.....the antipasti buffet was great, as was the fish. The hotel is not within walking distance of town but they do supply a hotel shuttle and the town bus has a stop not far away. We found ourselves using the town bus more than the shuttle due to timing issues....the shuttle leaves the hotel every hour on the hour and the pick up in town is every hour at 15past the hour, with the last pick up at 11:15pm. By the time we had dinner and walked around, we were never ready to return at 11. Taxis are available in town but be sure to negotiate the price first...our first taxi ride cost us over 30Euro. The hotel has a great pool and sundeck area with plenty of chaises and umbrellas. They have a pool bar and lunch is available poolside as well. The closest beach is across the street and down the hill...about a 10 to 15 min walk. It is a locals beach with chairs and umbrellas available for rent. There are are some cute Tavernas beachside serving very good pizza, clams, mussels, seafood....we went back for dinner one night and sat at a table on the beach....fun!!! We did have a car but only drove it to town one night....we used it to explore the Amalfi Coast. My husband did the driving and I must compliment him...there is no way I could have done it....I had enough trouble just being the passanger!!!! We loved Positano! If you are looking for a great beach day head to Positano....go down to the marina and look for a small boat offering service to the restaurant Le Sirene....this boat takes you to Laurito beach and the restaurant....you can rent chairs and umbrellas, have a wonderful lunch with great wine, they have changing cabanas and showers...it was my favorite day. We spent a day in Capri and did the Blue Grotto....my 11 year old son loved the whole Blue Grotto experience but overall we found Capri to be too crowded. One last thing I have to mention...Davide Gelato on Via Padre Giuliani in Sorrento....do not miss it!!!

We stayed at this hotel in August 2007. We have yet to find a better hotel and doubt we ever will. The hotel itself was immaculately clean and modern. The food was delicious. But what really makes this hotel so perfect are the wonderful staff. They are always cheerful and friendly and go out of their way to make your holiday special. We would love to go back, but would like to see more of the world. If we could we would take the Hotel La Solara to every destination we visit!!! I would strongly recommend this hotel.

This was our 4th visit to this hotel and once again it was fantastic.
The staff at the hotel make you feel welcome from the moment you arrive. The hotel is up a steep slope and reception like you to use the call button at the bottom so they can help you with your luggage.
Nothing is ever too much trouble, infact the staff seem to enjoy going out of their way to help you, and it's not because they are after a tip either! The staff are legendary, many have been there for 10+ years, wonderful sense of humour. Wait to you hear Antonio the barman sing "I can't help falling in love with you".
The food is excellent, it's worth taking your camera to dinner with you as the sunsets are spectacular.
This is the only hotel I have ever stayed at where the photos in the brochure don't do it justice. This hotel wins awards for so many reasons.
Pay the extra and get a room with a sea view, you won't regret it.
