“Fantastic food, friendly service and a good location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 August 2011

We stayed at the De La Ville on our honeymoon and would definitely recommend this hotel to couples and families alike. The food was absolutely amazing, there was lots of choice and Enzo was always very welcoming and friendly. At breakfast there is an egg chef cooking whichever type of egg takes your fancy!
We had a side sea view with balcony which had the sun in the morning but the amazing shutters meant that we weren't woken by the light. It had a handy British socket too! The room was spacious, the only down side was a soft bed which wasn't to our taste! The other slight annoyance was that the table tennis table was directly below our balcony so it wasn't always the most peaceful place to sit!
This didn't matter too much as there is lots to do in the area, we visited Pompeii and through our travel agent booked a trip to Vesuvius with a wine tasting tour. Sorrento is beautiful too, the best gelato is definitely Gelateria David near the station!
On our honeymoon we stayed in 3 different hotels, in different areas of Italy and this was by far the best, we were very sad to leave.

Just back from 2 fantastic weeks at the Grand Hotel De La Ville in Sorrento where we couldn’t have been treated better. Food, service and accommodation all top notch, with no bun fights for the sunbeds an added plus…a really great base to explore Sorrento itself and all the beauty that the surrounding areas have to offer. Enzo, Carmine and the whole team treated us like family! A great place to stay.

Room Tip: Front room overlooking the sea and mountains a plus

Hello, I've just been to Sorrento and spent a week in the De Le Ville.... (We stayed there as my sensible son and his lovely fiance' decided to get married in Sorrento)....The Hotel itself was absolutely superb and it was very clean, the staff were excellent and very very friendly, The room was nice and clean and it had plenty towels, the shower/bath was good, Air conditioning was free, There was a television and a mini bar in the room, I did'nt mind paying 3 euro per day for the safe..It was worth it for the peace of mind!, The food was execllent and there was a very good choice...I think there was seven choices for starter..seven choices for main course and three for desert..If you cant make a choice from all that then you must be difficult to please!, Sorrento itself is a beautiful place with very friendly people, Out and about, even alone and away from the main streets and late at night there was never a time when i felt uncomfortable or vulnerable, We went on the day trips..Pompei and Urculaneum, the Amalfi coast and Capri...all were very good, There's a very good Museum very close the the De Le Ville if you like Art, Furniture and Ceramics, 7 Euros well spent!, Admitted some places can be a bit pricey for food or drink whilst others are very reasonable.. so shop around. The only bad part was... I had to come home!..But i'd go back to Sorrento tomorrow!

My husband and i stayed at this hotel for 9 days and we found the hotel to be so friendly, beautiful and extremely clean everywhere.
The staff from reception, through to the cleaners were both friendly and very helpful , in fact the nicest staff we have ever encountered.
Enzo and the team were absolutely wonderful and do every thing in their power to make sure you enjoy your stay. The food is wonderful, varied and plenty of it.
Really this hotel has everything you could want, the only down side are the beds which are a bit on the firm side for us and the pool is a bit cool too.
We were very happy here and would definately return.
A final thing if like us you are traveling with Thomas Cook, then you will love your rep Richard, he is the best and the nicest rep we have ever come across and we would like to thank him again for everything.
Finally the hotel is in a very good spot and is easy to get to from the train station in Sorrento and all in all is great value for money.

The de la ville is probally the best hotel my wife (sharon) and me (phil) have stayed in, the rooms are above average, the food excellent and the staff go above and beyond their duty, especially Enzo, Flora and Gino, their were others aswell but i appologise for forgetting your names you were all very good. The hotel is always very clean and everybody are very freindly.
The surrounding area is beautiful, our holiday was made better by meeting nice couples namely Phil and Amanda, great company.
The area is quite expensive but you get what you pay for. We will definately come back hopefully Italy will return to the lire.

This is a really friendly hotel, the staff all do their best to make sure that you enjoy your stay. Our room was more than big enough for 3 people with plenty of storage space. Enzo and Carmine always have a warm welcome at the restaurant. Isodoro will always make excellent wine recommendations too. The views from the rooftop pool and solarium are outstanding.

Hotel de la Ville is a well run, efficient and pleasant hotel.
We stayed on a B&B basis for 10 days and really enjoyed our time there. Our room was a 'Superior' room on the 4th floor, so we had a full sea view from the side ( and a very entertaining view of the 'docu-soaps' going on in the appartments directly opposite our balcony-I'm naturally curious and liked seeing how the Italians lived...sorrry, I digress!)
Anyway, breakfast is good and plentiful-we filled up and didn't need much for lunch. Just as well, because when you're paying 25 euros for a coke, a beer and two sandwiches for your lunch, it quickly adds up. We started to pick up stuff from the local supermarket, as other reviewers have stated. We did have the evening buffet twice, and found that to be very good-we were advised to be there by 7pm to get the full choice of food. Every other evening, we ate at several of the many restaurants in Sorrento; they are fine, charging similar prices for pasta and pizza ( about 7 euros for a spag bol or similar).
The size of our room was very good, it was well furnished and the bed was comfortable and large. The bathroom was well equipped...the TV was fine..the air con was probably the best we've had anywhere, very quiet and easy to control. In fact, everything worked great!!!
We used the roof pool for a quick dip to cool off in-not long though because its quite cold. We never had problems getting sun beds or pool towels. We didn't like the ground floor pool much, its surrounded by buildings and is used mainly by the children staying at the hotel-you know, noisy, splashing ...On the subject of kids, I don't think that this is a place to take them to-when my children were younger, I'm sure they would've been bored. Also, there're no beaches in Sorrento, so keep it for when the kids want to go to Magalluf on their own and enjoy the grown up atmosphere of the place without them!
Sorrento is a lovely town with great shops and excellent public transport. We visited Pompeii by train, Positano by bus and Capri... by boat! Loved them all. We made our own way to and from the airport by using the airport bus- it was right outside the airport, waiting, as we got off the plane and easy to pick up at the train station on our journey home. It cost 10 euros each, no need to book, you just turn up and pay the driver. Oh yes, you don't need a taxi to get from the station to the hotel-a little effort and a 10 minute walk is all that's needed.
We love Italy and felt 'at home' in the hotel and in the country generally. Enjoy!

Room Tip: Take a travel kettle, thoughtfully, there is a handy British plug socket in your room.
