“what went wrong ????”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 September 2013

we booked the junior suite on 7th July 2013, for our trip in September, a week before our trip we got informed by email that they had only just found that they had double booked that room after 2 months !!! so put us into another room called (hilarity) which was ok, it had a little balcony which faced the sea so that was fine. the next day we was going to another room in the same hotel which was planned by us which was a superior double room. they said they would transfer our cases to our room once it was (cleaned) so we went down stairs for breakfast, we was taken to the ground floor which is totally different from the photos on there web. see photos, breakfast was basic. we went to our new room (joy) and there was black hairs on the floor around and in the toilet and port hole window by the bath, we wiped the floor with a damp tissue and showed the dirt a hairs to the owner, the owner said she would get it cleaned again, and had a go at the cleaner in front of us (not very professional) when we went back the hairs were still in the port hole window and one on the rim of the toilet we left and could not pay or see anyone as they had closed the hotel at 3.30 pm that day so we left a note and keys. also when we asked why the French doors have NO HANDLES, and on her web site it says about the balcony, the owner paola savarese, said to us (well I did not say they opened) I said to her what if there`s a fire and we cant get out ? she said (well I suppose I will have to take the blame) bit late when your dead. she has refunded the 2 nights booked although we told her we was happy to pay for our first night. the hotel looks grand and is when you walk round it, what went wrong it has so many really good reviews, we was in to minds to write our one as the reviews are so good, lets hope her cleaner gets more help. this is the email she sent us which is fine every one is allowed there own opinion. this is not to put anyone off this hotel its just to make them aware of our experience we went through on our stay here. I hope they take a few pointers from this review, so maybe no-one else has to move hotel in the future.

There are bad people and insatiable , that they can not even enjoy their vacation and unfortunately you have proven to be such. Anything I said or did, your frustration was such that nothing would change your mind : the hostility was palpable from the moment of check in , as well as your bad faith.
The breakfast table that you photographed is only one of the three available each morning , why?
When you have complained that the bathroom was not properly cleaned you have claimed only two hairs on the floor , they actually were , and I apologized a thousand times for this and immediately sent the maid to reclean the bathroom and checking personally ... and there was never any hair on the toilet nor have you done with me word , so I think that picture is the result of your wickedness .
As for the balcony , I just said that our superior rooms are described on our website and on all portals like rooms with window and no balcony so you had no reason to complain about this and you never talked about ways of escape in case of fire or dead , this thing seems to me , however, also in bad taste. On the door of each room is hung the escape plan in case of fire and it is not a thrown off the balcony that could save you!
Finally, you run away leaving a horrible message in the guest book (which I did not cancel, as I have nothing to hide) and when I tried to charge the first night, the credit card , of course , did not give permission, so nothing has been charged nor have you ever felt the need to respond to my email .
Also, I'd be curious to know why you have taken care to photograph everything but not the beautiful tray that I had sent in your room with a bottle of red wine, canapee and flowers accompanied by a note asking you to please accept my apologies , you should be ashamed of being so liars.
As I said in that message , I do not accept this defamatory action and I have already instructed my lawyer to follow this issue.

I don't even know where to start in saying how absolutely amazingly perfect our wedding reception was here!

We booked our wedding reception here after a visit in march and we knew it was the place for us from the moment we stepped in the door. This place has the real wow factor and we felt it as soon as we walked in and from then on we loved the place more and more with each new room we saw.

Between march and our wedding day 17th september absolutely nothing was too much trouble for Paola. I'm a real fusspot and a bit of a control freak but I didn't need to worry about a thing as Paola was on the same wavelength as me. She has a real passion for what she does and pays incredible close attention to detail and she actually cares about giving you the best day possible.

We spent the day getting ready in one of her incredible rooms and enjoyed prosecco and canapés. The room was large enough to accommodate myself, 3 bridesmaids, mother of the bride, make up artist, hairdresser and photographer. We also had a perfect view of the cloisters where we had our ceremony and got very excited seeing everyone arrive!

After our beautiful ceremony we headed over to the palazzo where our guests enjoyed prosecco cocktails including bellini's made with real fresh peach juice that they made that day and kir royal. They served the most delicious canapés and there was plenty for all with a mixture of hot and cold.

The tables were laid out perfectly and we're exactly how I'd hoped! After visiting in march the one thing I was a little worried about was that it would seem a little empty as we only had 32 guests in total and all previous reviews I'd read we're for much larger parties but it was set up in such a way that it was actually a perfect size! We had a 4 course dinner and the food was absolutely incredible! Every single guest commented on how amazing the food was and the presentation was beautiful! Again a lot of attention to detail!

Lastly, the service we experienced from every member of staff was second to none! Those guys were amazing and I cannot fault them in any way at all!

If you are looking for a wedding venue then look no further, this place has everything and we had the most amazing day and a lot of this is credit to Paola, her incredible staff and amazing home!

We hope to visit again soon for an anniversary! Xxx

If you want a bed and breakfast break in the heart of Sorrento, with a difference, then the Palazzo Marziale is for you. For a start it really began its life as a palace. Our room was large with high ceilings, a comfortable king size bed, tea and coffee making facilities, a desk, chaise longue, two chairs and a large marble floored bathroom. We were greeted by the owner, Paula, who sent up a bottle of wine and canapes to apologise when our suitcase suffered a slight delay in reaching our room. We stayed for seven days. The Italian-style breakfasts, taken in the bar area, filled you up for the day, even if you could not work your way through all the different savoury and sweet foods on offer. There is a high-class restaurant for evening meals which proved to be a favourite for wedding receptions during our stay. The hotel is a quarter of a minute walk from an amazing view over the Bay of Naples and a lift down to the harbour, a three minute walk from the Piazza Tasso (the main square of Sorrento) and a ten minute walk to the station to catch a bus to Positano and Amalfi (get seats on the opposite side from the driver's to get hair-raising views of the drop from the narrow cliffside road down to the sea), or to catch the Circumvesuviano train to Pompei, Herculaneum and Naples. There are many restaurants nearby. Entrance to the archeological sites and the Archeological Museum in Naples are free if you are 65 or over but you must show your passport of driving licence to prove your age. The Museum contains most of the best preserved frescoes, mosaics and statues which have been removed from Popmpei and Herculaneum. .

We arrived via train to Napoli and arranged with Palazzo Marziale to have a driver waiting for us at the train station. It worked out perfectly as Napoli is a busy and hectic station. It was nice to get off the train and our driver was at the end of the track waiting for us. He was a great driver and he endeavored to give us a little local information about Sorrento, restaurants , etc. during the drive. When you book online with a small hotel or inn, it can be quite varied as to what one person considers great and what another person favors. We read all the reviews on this property though and felt it would be a good match for us. I communicated with them beforehand and was pleased with our communication. We were not disappointed. It is a beautiful property and in an excellent location. Our room (hilarity) had a little french balcony with doors that opened to the church across the street and the walkway to the elevator lifts and viewpoints. I think there were weddings everyday we were there and sometimes more than one, so that was an added bonus. We were celebrating our wedding anniversary and had booked the "romantic package". Our spacious and lovely room had a large arrangement of all white flowers: roses and other varieties. There are also flowers throughout the hotel which adds to the charm of the inn. The bathroom was large and all marble with a deep bathtub and rain shower head. We loved it. Paola, the proprietor, was most helpful and available for any questions or help you might need. You can tell she has a passion for her property and seems to have been renovating something every year. The breakfast is on the street level in a delightful 2 rooms that are also open to the general public. They have a wonderful selection of food to fit Americans, Europeans and I think anyone would find something appealing for their breakfast. Included in our package was dinner one evening and that was something we had not anticipated. The dinner was served on the terrace which was lit by candles. They were ready for us when we arrived and wished us Happy Anniversary - a nice, unexpected touch. The service was 5 STAR PLUS with so much attention. The food was also 5 STAR Plus and made our anniversary a memorable, delicious event. We now have a passion for this wonderful, beautiful inn. I would strongly recommend Palazzo Marziale to anyone considering Sorrento as a base for the Amalfi Coast. It is so convenient to the hydrofoils and water activities via the elevator to the marina which is just across the street. Additionally, if you're a shopper, this is walking distance to the shopping district and all of the outdoor restaurants and gelato shops. We absolutely loved it and Paola who puts her heart and soul into making your stay everything it could be. Oh yes, someone mentioned that wedding receptions are hosted here and that is true. There can be a little noise from the reception activities, but the positive experience far overweighs a little bit of happy celebration noise!! I would most definitely return to this beautiful "special" property where we truly felt like guests.

Room Tip: We would recommend a room with a balcony because it is so nice to leave the french doors open to the...

I have just returned from a 7 night stay at this hotel and I can't praise it highly enough. Paola is an extremely gracious and elegant owner and very helpful. The rooms are a delight, we booked a junior suite and it lived up to our expectations. The bed was very large and extremely comfortable, the bathroom was large and luxurious. The staff at the palazzo are also lovely. This is not your usual large hotel with pool, sunbeds and hundreds of guests, this is a very intimate, small, (around 10 rooms I believe) but grand building.

We thought the breakfasts were fine, lots of choice, the usual continental breakfast of cheese, tomatoes, various meats and lovely home made rolls. Also there were some delicious homemade frittata, flans etc. Paola made the cakes for the breakfast table which were also delicious.

We had 5 nights half board and we made the right decision. The restaurant is in a beautiful position and we had a lovely table on the terrace with great food and fantastic service. We went to other venues on our other two nights and there was no comparison. Don't hesitate on this - just book it.

I also know that Paola does wedding receptions here and when we arrived one was in progress, the tables and room looked amazing and considering the hotel is just cross the road from the church and cloisters I would imagine you could have an amazing wedding day here.

Room Tip: Our junior suite was on the first floor at the front, we didn't have a problem with noise althou...

We have just returned from getting married at the cloisters on 5th September, we booked the Palazzo Marziale for the wedding reception for 24 guests based on the pictures and reviews on here. The pictures honestly do not do this place justice it is far more beautiful and grand. Paulo accommodated and exceeded all of our expectations and made sure that the day went without a hitch. If you are getting married at the cloisters this location is perfect literally just across the road and central to all accommodation and shops in Sorrento. The food was amazing, coupled with all the flowers and candles really did make this venue perfect!

We stayed here for 3 nights in late August. I chose after a detailed search. It was an excellent decision as it was a fabulous hotel. From most of the other reviews you can tell much about the basic comparisons. But what makes this place special is understanding some of its history which we learned form Paula the owner: It has been in her family for over 200 years, in the early/mid 20th family it was rented out by many families, which took many years to get it vacated for renovation. The renovation took over 12 years. One of the things I enjoyed the most of it, is that the renovation kept to the character of Southern Italy: Beautiful plaster walls, Italian furnishings, fabrics and inlaid wood and marble. You feel as though you are in Sorrento not just another modern hotel. Everything was exquisite.

Finally some negative comments were made regarding the breakfast, I disagree. NO It was not a big heavy American/English style breakfast, it was many types of beautifully made breakfast type crudités, along with of course the cereal/fruit/yogurt/juice/bread, etc. I really enjoyed it. The one comment I would make to the owner is have a write up done on the building and history and add that to the info book in the rooms. BRAVO!

Room Tip: There are only 5, all on the 2nd floor. You can't go wrong.
