“What a disappointment”
Reviewed 16 August 2014

This hotel looks lovely online but the reality is so different! Breakfast was continental style, which is fine if you like boiled eggs every day, but if you arrived toward the end of the times stated there was very little left! I never once saw the food being replenished and it really was a case of 'first come, first served'.
The pool area is grubby, cast iron seats with no cushions, and I saw two people getting hurt due to poor maintenance of the gratings around the pool and the sun beds.
The pool bar and snack bar are abysmal with virtually no choice.
Staff were polite but did not go out of their way to speak.
I felt really let down by the advertising of this hotel, it is just a bed and breakfast, perhaps a slightly upmarket hostel but nothing more.
Sorrento is fabulous which helped overcome the poor quality of the hotel.
Do not expect what you see on the internet, the hotel is an expensive let-down!

The Hotel photos online are rather deceiving , it's quite a bit older than it looks and like most old Hotels in Italy needs some love and attention ,although the rooms were clean ,the shower was so small you had to get out of the little cubicle if you dropped the soap, and the floor filled up if two people showered right after one another,no tea or coffee making facility ,the Tele was super small, and the beds hard as a park bench, the staff were exceptional and helpfull ,the breakfast was average at best.
On the upside the location was perfect to walk in every direction and best of all was our balcony view ,all the way to Naples, and the other way to Capri across The Bay of Naples quite stunning and luckily we had a Park between us and the Sea with no buildings
Probably would not stay again ,but might try a Hotel on the cliffs and pay the extra money for the experience
Kenny

Room Tip: Balcony Sea views only on the fourth or fifth floor

If you wish for your property to be respected and looked after do not stay at this hotel!

I stayed at the hotel for a week 04/08 - 04/11 this year. Me and 9 other members of my family stayed at the hotel. The food was average, however the waiters and sorrento it's self made up for any floors with the hotel for the first few days. On the third day i was in the room adjacent to mine, both doors were open, i had but a sign on my door for the maid not to clean my room, she did anyway, as i was across the hall i wasn't worried. Myself and three other heard a loud bang so i went into my room were the maid was picking up my apple mac laptop, i asked her if she'd dropped it and she advised she had, it was dinted and damaged so i went to reception. The manager, an aggressive elderly man told me i was lying and was being a silly little girl, he offered no apologies or resolution and was extremely aggressive towards me. I was offered no resolution and the rest of my stay was very awkward.

Extremely disappointed

Another hotel that we were very happy with. We booked a three day-two night tour with Odyssey tours in Rome. This tour covered transportation from our hotel in Rome to Naples, Pompeii, Sorrento and Capri. We spent two nights at the Carlton. It was very good. Breakfast and Dinner were included in the price. Hotel has Wifi only in the lobby but works fine. Within walking distance to the main attractions in Sorrento (shopping, restaurants, etc.) This tour was conducted by Carrani tours and we had very good service with them. INo complaints.

Room Tip: We were happy with our rooms. One triple and one double. No complaints.

This hotel was very disappointing and did not live up to its four star status
The bed was extremely uncomfortable with a lumpy, thin mattress. The shower was just a curtain around a shower base that was so small that any movement would result in unwittingly adjusting the water temperature or spilling of water over the floor. In the bathroom, there was a narrow glass shelf but nowhere to hang items of clothing to dry. There was no laundry service. Disappointingly there were no tissues provided.
The in room safe was small and locked by a key which meant that as well as a room key, we had to care for a safe key. It was surprising that there were no digital locks.
The breakfast was average with no cooked items. The bar could provide four different items at lunch time - sandwiches. There was no evening restaurant. However there were many restaurants within very easy walking distance. It seemed that the hotel once had a working kitchen and restaurant and possibly a pool bar but it is no longer as it once was.
Positives - easy walking distance to many restaurants and shops, pool setting is nice with many lounges available with shady areas, reasonable views from the sea view rooms.
Would NOT recommend this hotel as there are numerous others in the area which must be better than this.

Room Tip: At least second floor. Sea views are partially obstructed and road is noisy. Adjacent hotel us noi...

We picked the hotel because there was going to be a group of 6 of us and we thought that it might be a struggle getting 6 sun loungers together in some of the other hotels as they all seemed to have small rooftop plunge pools and sundecks. Having read the other reviews we were aware that the hotel was going to be tired looking. It is like something out of the 1970s decor-wise and the pool area/garden could do with some housekeeping. But on the plus side it was in a good location, was clean, there were lots of sunbeds and deck chairs, no screaming kids running round the pool, room was big and clean, air conditioning was quiet which made for a good night's sleep. Our bathroom was nice and new compared to friends in another room. We had a fantastic sea view, well worth the extra money (and you get the sun on the balcony in the evening). The breakfast was standard continental, meats, cheeses, pastries - the croissants were in a warmer which was a nice touch. Nothing fancy but perfectly acceptable for the money.

The hotel had a good location in the center. Nice pool at the backside. We had a double room with a beautiful seaview. The wi fii should have been available free in the rooms. The staff was helpful. The rooms safe should have had the key in it. The breakfast was good.

Room Tip: The seaview rooms are good.
