“Hotel Gardenia in Sorrento is a beautiful hotel, in the perfect location”
Reviewed 14 July 2009

Hotel Gardenia is a beautiful hotel, in which I enjoyed my stay very much. Everyday when I got back from my sightseeing the hotel room was cleaned to perfection and was back in the state of when I first arrived, this made the stay in the room that much more enjoyable knowing that I would come back to a clean hotel room. The room itself was spacious, with enough storage space to be able to unpack all of my clothes. The balcony was another asset to the room, it was beautiful sitting out on it at night time looking at some of the sights. The hotel was also in an ideal place for me as it was a short walk back from the main part of Sorrento, which was ideal after a night out. Sorrento itself is a very nice place, with lots of lovely shops and restaurants perfect for anything you want to do. The best part of Hotel Gardenia was the friendliness of the staff, they were always willing to help and were always very pleasant. They helped make the trip that much better. I enjoyed everything about my stay at this hotel, the worst part was having to leave!

As indicated by previous reviewers, The Gardenia is situated a fifteen minute walk from town along the busiest road imaginable, the air constantly polluted by traffic fumes. If you had children, I can imagine getting them from a to b would be very difficult. On first appearance, the hotel appeared to be clean and fresh, the pool area did look nice and we were glad to be overlooking the rear of the hotel. However, our room appeared to have an ant infestation and on our third and last night when we removed the bedside cabinet to investigate further, we were shocked to find that this area had not been cleaned for some considerable time. Our balcony was never swept (we knew this because we kept our eye on a piece of bread left by some previous occupant). At no time did we have any food in our room. When I reported the ant situation on check out, the receptionist looked at me and repeated 'ants in the room' looked away and made no further mention of it! We do have high standards, I will admit but compared to our hotels in Amalfi, Capri and even Naples, this was the least inviting.

Having travelled extensively on business around the world, how lucky we were to find this gem for our 10 day Sorrento Holiday. Well positioned location, comfortable, well finished rooms, with views of the Bay of Naples. Breakfast served at the hotel is an absolute must before starting out on your day. The pool is both large and crystal clear with a nice poolside snack bar. Check out the view from the roof top viewing area.
We all know that it is the Hotel staff that can really make a holiday totally memorable. The staff are extremely warm and friendly, giving great advice for Day Tours, Where to Eat and Where to Go. The guys organised a half day Italian Farm Tour where we got to sample home grown produce - ( an absolute must ).
Hotel Gardenia is a ten minute walk to Sorrento's Train & Bus Terminal which is your key transport hub for Airport Transfers and Day Trip Transport connections for Bus, Coach, Train and Ferry tranfer access for the Amalfi Coast.
We highly recommend Hotel Gardenia for all it has to offer and look forward to staying again one day , all the way from - Sydney, Australia.

The hotel was clean and modern and the front desk staff were very friendly and helpful. The breakfast selection was impressive and had something for everyone. Hotel was close to the centre of Sorrento, a 15 min walk that was quite beneficial after a heavy Italian meal of Pasta/Pizza.

The only reason why I haven't given the hotel a 5 out of 5 is when we were staying there in April, the rooms were very warm, however they wouldn't turn the air conditioning on yet, and there is no way you can sleep anywhere in this hotel with the windows open as it fronts onto an extremely busy street which is really noisy at all times. Suffice to say it was pretty stuffy and quite difficult to sleep comfortably. This may not be an issue in the middle of summer though, if you can sleep through the sound of the air conditioner.

Our family of 6 spent four nights at Hotel Gardenia. The rooms were comfortable and very clean. They serve an excellent breakfast with a wide selection. All the staff is very friendly and helpful. The location is close enough to the main city that walking is easy. The staff does speak English very well so we had no problems with communication. In addition, they helped us make travel arrangements for the area which worked extremely well. We would definitely stay at the same hotel if we return to Sorrento and highly recommend it to others. Our visit surpassed our expectations.

I stayed 5 nights in this hotel when in Sorrento. Let me first say, the hotel is nice and clean. The rooms are small but the bathrooms are a nice size. The staff is very friendly and willing to give you recommendations for restaurants, etc. They offer free parking in the lot right next to the hotel. That is a plus given it's hard to find parking in this town.

However, there are few things I feel travelers need to know about this hotel. It is on a main street and it's VERY loud with the windows open. We could not sleep with the windows open because of this. With the windows closed, the room got up to 75- 78 degrees at night. In my opinion, too warm for sleeping. I asked the staff numerous times if they would turn on the a/c but they refused, telling me that they don't turn it on until May. They advertise they have a/c. What they don't tell you is that they will turn it on at THEIR discretion. What happened to pleasing the customers?

Secondly, beware of their internet charges. They charge 13 euros for 2 hours of internet use. Within 24 hours, we were out of our 2 hour limit. There is no way we used 120 mins. in 24 hours. We were on and off in 10 mins. 2 times a day. We purchased another 2 hours for 13 euros and the same thing happened. Each time we logged off and even pulled the cable out of the wall. I think their internet clock is inaccurate. You are better off to go across the street to the internet cafe for 1.50 euros for 30 or 60 mins. I can't remember the time limit but it was a lot cheaper than at the hotel.

This hotel is a good 20 min/1 1/2 - 2 mile walk to the center of town. That was fine but just know that when booking this hotel.

I read some of the reviews on here that talked about a plentiful breakfast consisting of eggs, meats, sweets, etc. The breakfast when we were there was yogurt, rolls, fruit, sweets, coffee and juices. That was it. That was fine for us but not what I read.

I would bring your own blowdryer if you can. You must have your finger on the On/Off switch the entire time you blow dry your hair or it won't stay on.

This hotel is worth the price. However, do be aware of what I consider cons along with the pros.

Stayed here for 4 nights, had a great time hotel very clean and comfortable, prices for drinks are very expensive £2.50 for a small mixer drink i.e coke or sprite.£5 for a coffee. Staff very friendly would definately go again and stay in the same place, 5 min walk to town centre, Capri well worth a trip, as is pompei, and the volcano. All in all a beautiful place well worth a visit and we will be going again, trains and busses easy to use if needed and resort hoppa were extreamly good for getting you from the airport to the resort or hotel. If you go for the first time it's well worth paying and saving yourself from loads of hassle.,
