“A bargin in Sorrento!”
Reviewed 28 April 2010

We stayed at this hotel through a travel agent deal and really don't know what we paid per night, but it was clean, the staff was friendly and helpful and the breakfast was excellent, including eggs. It was close to the downtown area and a couple of nights, we bought great food at the grocery store down the street and had our own picnic on the roof. Parking was $16 euro a day and breakfast was not included in our deal, so it was an extra $10 euro each per day. Internet worked fairly good and was $8 euro for three hours. A great place!

We spent 6 nights in March 2010 at the Gardenia Hotel in Sorrento. The hotel is a great value. There are no frills but there is cleanliness, outstanding service by the owners Gaetano Mauro, his wife and daughter who along with one or two other relatives run this hotel and it is within 10-15 minute walk to downtown Sorrento. It's not the Ritz but it is a warm and inviting hotel with a small bar and a sense of family when you take a few moments to get to know the owners. Free parking and free Internet would be a good addition and breakfasts could be improved. Nonetheless it suited the needs of our party of 3 couples perfectly.

This Hotel and all said about it is in general true. Good clean hotel, good rooms and excellent staff. Altogether well run. We had booked for fourteen days.
BUT! The breakfast never changed; a few dry white bread baps followed a cereal dish of cornflakes and some charcuterie with a lettuce leaf for those not accustomed to Italian breakfasting. The rest of the buffet comprised of fruit tarts, sweet croissants, slices of sugary tart etc. - and a few apples and oranges. And it never varied.
The hotel is a good mile or more from the centre of the town and it does provide only bed & breakfast facilities. Therefore dining out for lunch and dinner is away from the hotel and that is fine if you have good dry weather. We unfortunately saw the worst wet weather imaginable during our stay which we curtailed to seven days after waking again to teeming skies. The nearest restaurant is about 200 yards away with a limited menu and not a very warm ambience. After that you have a long walk. Just to eat my wife and I had to make these trips through pouring rain twice in one day resulting in complete changes of clothing each time. So hope to have good weather.
Thirdly and finally, if you happen to be using a car the hotel charges 16 euros per day for parking - a bit much I thought.
Other than all of that, we enjoyed the hotel for what it is and would recommend it to anyone who can accept these drawbacks. And having said that a couple of days in Sorrento is enough!

Excellent good value hotel. Recently refurbished, very nice room, good staff very friendly and helpful. Reasonable continental breakfast, possibly more choice during the busy season. As other people have advised on trip advisor, the hotel is situated on the busy main thoroughfare into Sorrento. Not very centrally located however only approximately 15 minutes walk into the centre of town on a narrow footpath at times.

Stayed here in September with my 2 teenagers. The staff were extremely friendly and helpful. They organized our pick up from the airport, which was great... 75 euros, no hassle, knowledgable local driver who gave us some good tips on everything from sight seeing to good restaurants.
The rooms were very clean and quite spacious. We had a quad room, which consisted of a queen and bunk beds, all very comfortable.
The position of this hotel is not great. The road is extremely noisy 24/7 and you are unable to use the balcony, if facing the front. It is a good 10 min walk into the town centre which was not a problem for myself or family but you do have to walk single file in some areas and could therefore be tricky for young families.
We stayed in 8 hotels around Europe on this trip and this hotel by far had the best breakfast. The freshly made cappuccino"s were a great way to start, followed by an abundance of food. We did not need to eat again until late afternoon.

This is one of the nicest Hotels that I have stayed in for this price. The owners could not have been nicer. The staff was very diligent in maintaining a clean enviornment and at the same time very friendly. The breakfast was excellent. Great value for your money. I would return there over and over if it wasn't so far away from Alberta, Canada!

On arrival we were greeted enthusatically with a friendly welcome. We were told all we needed to know about our stay at the hotel and brief review of what types of trips the hotel could arrange. Our rooms were clean, tidy, well porportioned and had all the relevant mod cons and hotel information. We had a balcony from which the sea could just about be seen as well as the main road which was very busy. With the balcony double glazed doors closed any noise was virtually elimintaed. From the hotel to the main pizza Tasso was approx 1km or 10 minute walk. The area appears to be safe and there are very few beggars unlike Rome. Breakfast was served between 7 and 10am and was very good and well serviced. You could choose toast, cereals, jams, spreads, bread rolls, croissants plain or filled, salami, cheese, param ham, mortadela, fried eggs, bacon, scambled eggs, fresh fruit, juice drinks, the usual coffee and tea variations, and a selection of local cakes or desserts. Overall we'd stay there again.
