“Nice location in Sorrento”
Reviewed 22 July 2014

The Rota Suites are functional, if not fancy, suites in a really good location in Sorrento. We got the deal where you had the passes to the hotel's pool and ocean, and our kids enjoyed that every day we were there. The kitchen was serviceable for making breakfast but I think you'd have a hard time really cooking anything there. The front desk staff was indifferent, I think they actually had some other job they were doing while they sat because they didn't seem at all focused on the guests (although they were friendly enough). We got a change of towels once during our stay but they didn't take the wet towels so we had a very high stack of wet towels in our bathroom. If we'd stayed longer, I don't think all the wet towels would have fit! Despite these small issues, I would definitely stay here again for the location and access to the pool/sea.

Our first visit to Italy and we were lucky to find Rota Suites for our first time . As we prefer self catering we couldn"t have found anywhere better. The rooms were very spacious very well equiped with every thing you could want. The location was perfect to go into the town with all its cafes bars and shopping.including a near by supermarket. Any help we wanted for information we only had to ask at reception and they were always please to help . We found a great restaurant comming out of the hotel to the right about 200 yds away with great food and live singer every night and a great atmosphere, they have very pleasent staff and realy made our holliday . We would very definatly go back there again.

Room Tip: Lift to floors quiet rooms ours was spacious and ample for two at least with a good outlook

We have just returned from a two week stay at the Rota Suites in Sorrento and we have honestly had the best two weeks of our lives. Sorrento is so amazingly wonderful it is beyond words and the Rota Suites are absolutely fantastic. The staff were so so friendly, the rooms were beautiful, clean and very spacious. The location is wonderful and the huge icing on the cake is the absolutely superb access to the Grand Hotel Rivieria and the pool, balcony for lunch and of course the out of this world jetty. We have both been all over the world and we can honestly say if you like to have peace and quiet, with the ability to do what you want when you want and at the same time have the BEST amentities a hotel could possibly offer - book the Rota Suites

Room Tip: We stayed in a room at the back and was so quiet to aid a wonderfully peaceful nights sleep

This was out third holiday in Sorrento, and so decided to go self catering. We booked through Thomson and were really looking forward to our stay at the Rota Suites. We were not disappointed, upon arrival, Raphaella, the friendly receptionist showed us to our suite, explained how everything worked, where everything was and generally made us feel at home. The suites are wonderful! Having stayed in many Italian hotels with small rooms, no kettle or tea/coffee making facilities, the Rota Suites were like a dream come true! Large living area, huge bed, wonderful bathroom and compact 'roll away' kitchen, we could not have asked for more. Our only negative would have been that our suite was at the back of the hotel, overlooking the car park, but I knew when I booked that this was the last suite available, so guessed this may be the case, but having said that, we still had a view of the sea and Vesuvius. The location is fantastic, 5 minutes from the centre of town and all that Sorrento has to offer. There is a little bar right next door 'The Cosmopolitan' which ok, is a tourist bar, but it's handy and again, the staff are very friendly. I can't recommend the Rota Suites highly enough, if you're not bothered about not having a pool, which we're not, or a restaurant on site - who needs one in Sorrento? If you just want to be left alone to get on with your holiday and explore the area without the tie of hotel meals, chambermaids coming in every day and the awful 'Gala Nights' that Italian hotels insist on - then Rota Suites are for you..fantastic holiday.

Room Tip: Rooms at front have a better view and get more sun on balconies.

Absolutely loved staying here for 5 nights! Location is perfect, 10 minute walk to to square, very quiet area. The staff is wonderful, very helpful before and during our stay! We had a 2 bedroom suite for our family of four. It was actually two suites, one bigger than the other and both had full kitchens fully stocked with pots, pans, dishes, glasses, cutlery, coffee maker everything you would have in your home. We used our kitchen area quite often and it was like being at home! Grocery stores close by very convenient location. The washer and DRYER (yes they have a dryer) are on the main level by the reception desk and was very much appreciated when you're traveling for a couple of weeks. Air conditioning is excellent so is the wifi. I would definitely stay here again and recommend to anyone looking for an apartment type of suite!
If you book on their website and stay 5 nights you have free access to their sister hotel that has an outdoor pool. You can take an elevator down to a big deck area that has lounge chairs and bar. Information is on their website

These Suites really aren't 4 star. They are 3 star at best and I have marked them down for being poor value. My wife and I stayed here at the end of March 2014. It was our first holiday with our 9 month old, so we thought self catering was a better choice than a hotel. In a nutshell our review boils down to this: if your are considering Rota Suites because you need to self cater, the Suites are extremely basic and not really equipped to cook family dinners. If you need to stay in in the evenings because you have a baby, you will probably be climbing the walls here because the suites are so small. You would be better off in an apartment or villa rather than these suites, in order to get a proper working kitchen and more space. If you don't need to self cater, there are beautiful hotels in the area, for which you will get much more value for your money. It is true that Rota is in a good location, but so are hundreds of other hotels or apartments! The location wouldn't be a good enough draw to get us to stay here again.

On being shown to our suite, our immediate feeling on looking around was one of disappointment. The suite we had was one bedroom plus a kitchenette/diner, but the living area was barely bigger than the bedroom and crammed the kitchenette into a space no bigger than a wardrobe. The doors of the kitchenette did not fold back all the way, so that the doorway to the bedroom was constantly obstructed. The kitchenette consists of a sink, microwave (no oven), kettle, toaster and a double hob, but the hobs are positioned so closely together that it is not possible to fit two saucepans on at the same time. The extractor fan did not work and upon inspection appeared to be caked in years' worth of dust, dirt and grease. The equipment in the kitchen is very spartan. There was a cupboard with crockery and cutlery, one single blunt chopping knife and no chopping board. In terms of supplies, the only thing that was provided, was washing up liquid, but no salt, pepper, sugar, washing up sponges etc, so you will need to unpack your bags and then start making your shopping list as soon as you arrive. The quality of the fittings feels very 'IKEA' (the veneers on our cupboard/kitchenette were peeling), not the kind of finish I would associate with a 4 star establishment.

There were two TVs in the suite but these were not tuned properly and we were unable to find a single channel of any language, let alone English. The rooms are only cleaned once per week. There were two afternoons in the week when reception was not staffed and this caused us problems when we needed help ordering a taxi to attend a wedding. When you compare all this with the value you would get from a hotel: daily cleaning, a properly staffed reception, breakfast included etc, you begin to wonder why the Suites are so expensive.

Our experience of the accommodation was unfortunately soured on the day of our arrival. We had emailed Rota Suites prior to travelling to check that a cot would be available for our son. We were told that there was a cot available, at a cost of 14 Euros. It was only when we arrived at Rota Suites that we were informed that the cost was 14 Euros per night. This was a totally disproportionate cost and we worked out that we probably could have bought a new cot in Italy and left it there and been better off. Perhaps it was an honest mistake that we weren't properly informed beforehand, but it left us feeling as though we had been tricked into parting with our money. Reading other people's reviews, it seems to be common practice for Rota to charge for "extras" wherever they can, which they insist must be paid in cash. You can use the laundry, but at a cost. You can use the pool at the Hotel Riviera, but will need to pay additional if you want to use a sun lounger. You can have breakfast at the Hotel Riviera, at the "reduced" price of 12 Euros per person. It feels like a half benefit with a fairly skin flint approach - included isn't really included in my book if you have to get your wallet out! On our last day I tried to use the computer in the lobby to print off my boarding pass and almost as soon as I sat down the receptionist rushed over to tell me that if I wanted to use the internet she would have to charge me. So I said, "fine I'll print it off at the airport". By this time I really didn't want to give them any more money!

Don't get me wrong, Rota is an OK place and nothing stands out as really terrible. It's just for the prices they charge it doesn't strike me as good value, with the extra charging for use of a pool and basics like a cot for a family holiday making it feel poorly organised at best, and at worst a bit moneygrabbing. Surely those things are what makes it a 4 star accommodation, otherwise its 2-3 star with an option to pay for nearby services?!

Where to start? The location in Sorrento. Perfect. A 5-6minute walk to the centre where the super cafes, bars, restaurants and shops reside. 3 cracking supermarkets nearby. Very quiet and you walk out to view the sea and mountains surrounding. Just lovely.

The room. It was self catering, but didn't have a crude kitchen in view. The cooking and fridge facilities were discreetly hidden behind tasteful wooden panels, so making the room like a proper hotel room. A large sitting area with decent size table that would easily seat 6, a good sofa and a flat screen TV. Then walk past the great bathroom. Top shower and bath, big room generally, including the bidet. Now the bedroom. Again large, again with another flat screen TV and safe. A balcony, lots of storage and clean throughout.

Aircon worked a treat whenever you wanted it. The fridge was proper cold and controllable. Ice machine in the corridor, simply nothing discernible wrong in this accommodation. The staff were sweet and helpful.

One of the best places I have stayed in for the money. A real bargain, I promise. Also, you get free use of the sister hotels pool and beach facilities, which on the write said they would cost 12euros a day, but Thompson buyers got for free. We didn't use it, but if we had the kids here, a real saving.

Highly recommend the Rota Suites. I would so use again!
