We have just returned from a week staying at the Rota Suites in Sorrento & have had a lovely holiday :-) We decided to book the Rota Suites as we wanted to have the choice of eating out in Sorrento rather than all inclusive or half board, we were also keen to have some self catering facilities to make breakfast / lunch / keep wine in the fridge! The Suites were ideal for our needs, really clean, modern and spacious, the air con (which saved our lives in the August heat!) and the free wifi were very much appreciated. The location was also good, just a 5 min walk into the heart of Sorrento, although we live in the city centre and are not bothered by noise, it was noticeable how quiet it was once we were back in our room on a night. The staff were also very friendly :)

I have noticed a few slightly negative reviews about the self catering facilities available at the Rota Suites. It is clear to see from the website that the facilities are a little limited, e.g. the kitchen is hidden behind large cupboard doors! But really it is all you need to make some sandwiches and snacks, we cooked one meal (pasta) there on an evening, and really we had everything we needed.

The access to the pool and beach at the Grand Hotel Riviera was great, lots of time spent sun bathing and swimming. The only thing that left us feeling a little disappointed was the communication of what we were entitled to with our free access. When we checked in we were given passes and told to take them with us whenever we went to the pool, so we did. It was not until the 4th day that we were approached by one of the life guards who asked us our room number. We showed him our passes and he explained that we were not allowed to use the sun beds, only the sun chairs unless we wanted to pay 6 euros. Although at this point he kindly brought us over some of the towels available for the hotel guests. He told us that we were supposed to show our passes every time we arrived at the beach or the pool, so from the on we did, and every time they brought over towels. We just felt that firstly, it would have been great if on check in, we had been told to show our passes and only been told that we were only entitled to a sun chair and that sun launders were 6 euros. Secondly, if towels are in on the deal, then why not tell guests about this at check in too as this was a nice bonus - might help soften the blow that sun loungers aren't included!

Overall, a lovely holiday and the Rota Suites made a great home for us for the week. I would recommend the suites assuming you have similar needs to us, and just don't expect all the bells and whistles of 5 star luxury.

Room Tip: We were in suite 6 which overlooked the side street - not sure if you can request a suite at the fro...

Myself and my husband stayed at these apartments for our honeymoon. We chose them as they are well located and we preferred the option to eat out and explore Sorrento rather than be tied into half-board. The resort itself is beautiful and was a perfect romantic setting for our honeymoon.
On first impressions the apartments we're clean and modern, if not very basic. As we booked with Thomson we could use the pool and bathing deck of the Hotel Rivera which was great, however sunbeds are still charged at €6 per person. (Only the deck chairs are free). We weren't aware of this but managed to get away with it until the last day.
Back to the apartments.... they only get cleaned once a week!!! We arrived on the Monday and didn't receive any clean towels until Saturday, despite asking for them. Our bins were over flowing, and we also had to ask for extra toilet roll a couple of times as they simply don't replace it!
I'm unsure why some of the reviews rate them so highly, they're not all that. I'm not one to complain at all usually but I strongly think this is a problem that needs to be sorted out.

We stayed here last year and decided it would be hard to find better...

We were recognised by the staff as previous guests, which was nice. Whether because we were repeat guests or luck, we had an even better suite this year (no 1).

We had 2 balconies, a large living/dining area with a dining table, sofa (sofa bed if there were a 3rd person) large bedroom with a 6 foot bed, and a very spacious bathroom with shower, bath and bidet. It was blissfully quiet and we heard no noise from the street. We had a mountain view, which was lovely.

There was also a dressing area with clothes storage and a room safe.

The windows had electric shutters which could be lowered to keep out the light at night and also prevent the room getting too hot in the sunshine.

All the staff on duty were very pleasant and helpful. It was also nice to know that the entry from outside was either with your own front door key or by ringing the bell so that one of the receptionists came to open the door.

We don't like being tied to set mealtimes and the scramble when a hotel dining room is opened...

This gives the best of all worlds - eat in and sample some of the local delicacies; there are a couple of excellent supermarkets and lots of specialist shops nearby - try one of the many good local restaurants and most of all, do so when you feel like it!

The kitchen has a two ring hob and a combination microwave, as well as a toaster and kettle. The kitchen area is small but perfectly adequate to prepare a lovely meal.

The Rota Suites are functional, if not fancy, suites in a really good location in Sorrento. We got the deal where you had the passes to the hotel's pool and ocean, and our kids enjoyed that every day we were there. The kitchen was serviceable for making breakfast but I think you'd have a hard time really cooking anything there. The front desk staff was indifferent, I think they actually had some other job they were doing while they sat because they didn't seem at all focused on the guests (although they were friendly enough). We got a change of towels once during our stay but they didn't take the wet towels so we had a very high stack of wet towels in our bathroom. If we'd stayed longer, I don't think all the wet towels would have fit! Despite these small issues, I would definitely stay here again for the location and access to the pool/sea.

Our first visit to Italy and we were lucky to find Rota Suites for our first time . As we prefer self catering we couldn"t have found anywhere better. The rooms were very spacious very well equiped with every thing you could want. The location was perfect to go into the town with all its cafes bars and shopping.including a near by supermarket. Any help we wanted for information we only had to ask at reception and they were always please to help . We found a great restaurant comming out of the hotel to the right about 200 yds away with great food and live singer every night and a great atmosphere, they have very pleasent staff and realy made our holliday . We would very definatly go back there again.

Room Tip: Lift to floors quiet rooms ours was spacious and ample for two at least with a good outlook

We have just returned from a two week stay at the Rota Suites in Sorrento and we have honestly had the best two weeks of our lives. Sorrento is so amazingly wonderful it is beyond words and the Rota Suites are absolutely fantastic. The staff were so so friendly, the rooms were beautiful, clean and very spacious. The location is wonderful and the huge icing on the cake is the absolutely superb access to the Grand Hotel Rivieria and the pool, balcony for lunch and of course the out of this world jetty. We have both been all over the world and we can honestly say if you like to have peace and quiet, with the ability to do what you want when you want and at the same time have the BEST amentities a hotel could possibly offer - book the Rota Suites

Room Tip: We stayed in a room at the back and was so quiet to aid a wonderfully peaceful nights sleep

This was out third holiday in Sorrento, and so decided to go self catering. We booked through Thomson and were really looking forward to our stay at the Rota Suites. We were not disappointed, upon arrival, Raphaella, the friendly receptionist showed us to our suite, explained how everything worked, where everything was and generally made us feel at home. The suites are wonderful! Having stayed in many Italian hotels with small rooms, no kettle or tea/coffee making facilities, the Rota Suites were like a dream come true! Large living area, huge bed, wonderful bathroom and compact 'roll away' kitchen, we could not have asked for more. Our only negative would have been that our suite was at the back of the hotel, overlooking the car park, but I knew when I booked that this was the last suite available, so guessed this may be the case, but having said that, we still had a view of the sea and Vesuvius. The location is fantastic, 5 minutes from the centre of town and all that Sorrento has to offer. There is a little bar right next door 'The Cosmopolitan' which ok, is a tourist bar, but it's handy and again, the staff are very friendly. I can't recommend the Rota Suites highly enough, if you're not bothered about not having a pool, which we're not, or a restaurant on site - who needs one in Sorrento? If you just want to be left alone to get on with your holiday and explore the area without the tie of hotel meals, chambermaids coming in every day and the awful 'Gala Nights' that Italian hotels insist on - then Rota Suites are for you..fantastic holiday.

Room Tip: Rooms at front have a better view and get more sun on balconies.
