“The Star of Sorrento”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 April 2011

From the minute we arrived to the minute we left, we were really pleased with the choice of hotel we had made.
The breakfast location and quality were something we looked forward to each day. Those cakes!
The staff were more than helpful and gave us really valuable information as to how to get around.
The garden and pool became as haven of tranquillity after a day of Italian chaos which was always expected and in fact was part of the charm.
So if you want to see Sorrento ( and I would again) and you want to be central and you want to be treated well, then stay at the Antiche Mura

We got married in Sorrento last September and stayed in this hotel with our families. It was fab so handy really close to everything and Michele and the staff were fantastic. We stayed in one of the suites for the week and the room was really lovely. Fantastic big rooms with lovely interior deco. Couldnt fault it in any way. The pool area is great very relaxing with the lemon trees and you actually forget you're in a town! We look forward to coming back to this hotel very soon to celebrate our wedding anniversary.

Our family stayed at this superb hotel in late March. Had two rooms and both were upgraded upon our arrival, which was a pleasant, unexpected surprise. The rooms were clean and large (including one which was a split-level junior suite) and looked out over the old canyon. Hotel staff was among the friendliest we've ever encountered in Italy; they greeted you not only upon arrival, but each time you returned from being out and about in town. Helpful with local advice, too. Used the valet and parking service, since we had a car, and this staff was courteous, polite, and friendly, too. The grounds are lovely, especially all the lemon and orange trees out by the pool, and there is a nice patio area to have drinks or breakfast out by the ancient wall. Breakfast room staff is quite attentive, and the buffet is outstanding with a wide assortment of food items. Location is ideal as it is very close to the town square, Piazza Tasso, but not directly in it, which keeps the noise and pedestrian traffic down. From the hotel, you can easily walk to shops, restaurants, train station, and even down to the marina for the boat trip to Capri. If you want to stay in an affordable, convenient, outstanding hotel in Sorrento, this is the place for you.

Hotel is located next to an old city wall (as the name says antiche mura).
Beautiful building in a beautiful location. I got a room for myself located
in a terrace, where the view was incredible. Very quiet too, I think the
quietest sleep during my stay in Italy. Excellent big room and bed (even
for a solo traveller). Breakfast is good, not the best I had in the
country, but very complete. Next to the breakfast room they have a very
nice backyard with lemon trees and a swimming pool. The view of the little
cliff - old wall is just breathtaking.
The only contras I found were the charges for parking and internet. They
could avoid that, from my point of view it grays the other good qualities
of this hotel.
As an advise for Sorrento, driving there will be an exercise to your
patience. I just left the car in the hotel and did everything from there on
boat or train or walking. So much better. Now, if you want to go to Amalfi,
there are no boats till May, so take that into consideration. Car will be
also nerve-racking I think, and bus as well. Capri is a nice boat ride,
Pompei you can go by train. The hotel street takes you to the stairs that
go down to the marvelous coast; and walk to find good picture spots along
the city.
Would definitely stay again

We just got back from our trip to Sorrento, and our stay at The Hotel Antiche Mura was perfect.
We were greeted on arrival with smiles and enthusiasm after a long journey from New Jersey USA. The staff was very helpful and professional arranging our dinner plans with prompt pick up to local restaurants and door to door shuttle service.
The rooms were very clean and comfortable and we were surprised how big and well equipped they were.
The breakfast buffet was abundant and delicious! The service for the breakfast was also spot on perfect.
The hotel was very close to the center of Sorrento, only 1 block away.
Every thing about Hotel Antiche Mura was just fabulous and we really hated to have to leave.

Room Tip: All the staff that helped us spoke English.

The location of Antiche Mura is perfect. We stayed in a jacuzzi suite which had lots of space for 2 adults and 2 teens. We never felt like we were bumping into one another especially since the kids beds were down a level from our king size bed. It was very quiet. The pool is not large but it is a beautiful setting surrounded by lemon and orange trees. The service is excellent. Food for breakfast was delicious. We would definitely stay here again!

Given the fact Sorrento is famously expensive, this hotel was actually quite reasonably priced.
Once you get there, you realise that, actually, it's a bargain. I'm shocked it's not a five-star.
The room was spacious, clean and had everything we needed. The facilities of the resort were excellent. It's literally a two-minute walk from the centre of town although, to be fair, Sorrento is so small, it's difficult for any hotel in town to be far from the station or centre.
The staff were excellent. Friendly, professional and helpful.
If ever I have the fortune to return to Sorrento, I will be staying here. A bargain at twice the price!
