“The finest hotel in the world”
Reviewed 11 May 2007

In all my years of traveling, and they have been many, I can not recall staying at a more beautiful hotel. My only regret is that I could not stay longer. I can not find a single thing to find fault with. The hotel is beautiful, the grounds lush with fruit trees, a pool, great views. The room large, great bathroom. The free breakfast was amazing, served in one of the largest restaurants I have seen. The location is amazing. You walk out of your hotel, go one block and you are in the center of town. The staff could not be nicer, always wlling to help.. If there were a six star rating for a hotel, this would be the one to give it to.

Anyone going to Sorrento, do yourself a favor and stay only at this hotel. There is even parking right at the hotel.

I can not say enough to praise this amazing hotel. It is only a few years old (very modern) but will certainly be one of the premier hotels in the world.

I stayed at the Antiche Mura for six nights while on business (I did not want to stay at the conference location - the Hilton). The hotel was just lovely and in a perfect location (about a block from the Piazzo Tasso and within an easy walk to train/bus station and an uphill walk to Hilton). The hotel staff were very pleasant and helpful. We had a very private and huge two-level room (#209) with large terrace overlooking the cavernous valley. The breakfasts were plentiful (eggs/breakfast meats not the focus but rather cakes and pastries) with healthy juices and excellent coffee - the breakfast room was very sunny, upscale, and lovely. Even though the hotel did not have view of coast (if it did, I did not see it), I would not stay anywhere else (unless I had an unlimited budget in which case I would probably select the Bellevue Syrene Hotel which looks absolutely gorgeous from the street)...

I can't speak highly enough of this hotel. It is outstanding, from the welcome on arrival to the rooms, the breakfast and the staff. Nothing is too much trouble, and the cleanliness and attractiveness of this hotel with swimming pool, beautiful garden and superb breakfasts leave little else to be desired. It is situated adjacent to some old castle ruins and is right in the town centre, although at the same time very quiet. We didn't have a sea view and I'm not sure if one is available, but it is more than made up for by the location and quality. We were on honeymoon, and there was even a bottle of sparkling wine waiting for us in the room when we arrived.

We stayed for seven nights. Without exception, all staff were friendly all of the time. The cleaning of our rooms was exemplary and we knew that each time we went back in the evening the room would look just like we'd arrived that day.

The breakfast in the morning was extremely well managed with plenty of friendly staff. The breakfast room feels spacious and the atmosphere warm. There was always plenty of food available, with great variety, and the quality of it was exceptional.

If travelling to Sorrento again I would certainly visit again.

This is an excellent hotel, situated in the heart of Sorrento close to the Piazza Tasso but nevertheless quiet ,with a tranquil garden and pool. Our room was graded as a "comfort room" for which there is a supplement; we felt it was well worth the extra. Room facilties are excellent and the staff are extremely helpful and friendly. We stayed on a B&B basis and can commend the breakfast. The furnishings throughout the hotel are of a high standard and the cleanliness is exemplory.

My wife and I stayed here for 5 days in April 2007, having studied the reviews of various Sorrento hotels.
Our comfort room was clean, well decorated but a bit on the small side, and lacking in one or two comfort factors we expected eg tissues, information pack. The shower room was adequate in size but there was a hint of a smell of drains after the shower was used.
The location is excellent, and the front desk staff very pleasant and helpful, giving good recommendations for eating places, with maps showing location, and being happy to make reservations.
Breakfast for our taste was no better than average. Not a wide choice of either cooked or cereals, but very extensive if you like sweet stuff at that time of day. (But our previous Italian breakfast experience was at the Melia Milano, which was our best ever.)
The garage is a useful facility if you have a car. On street parking is neither plentiful nor recommended.

The hotel was lovely except for the ants that were everywhere in our room, including the beds! Do not stay in the garden shack room because the trash is collected every morning between 5 and 6 am right outside the window. Best breakfast we had in Italy.

My family and I really loved the Antiche Mura. The lobby is very nice, the rooms are well appointed and the front desk staff was excellent. They were very helpful and knowledgeble and made good recommendations for restaurants that were not just typical tourist places. The breakfast was simply amazing with one dish better than the next. The location is also very convenient.

  • Liked — Excellent front desk staff. Great breakfast and location.
  • Disliked — Not ocean view.
