“Lovely hotel, great hol!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 28 May 2012

Recently stayed at La Meridiana for 7 days. The hotel is spotlessly clean and the reception staff were really helpful. The food was plentiful (4 courses), not always to my taste but that's just a personal thing. It's well situated in a quiet area, just a short walk from the centre of Sorrento. A nice route to take is through the orange/lemon grove across the road from the hotel. A good place to visit is the Foreigners' Club just off the main square. Here you can sit and sip a drink or coffee, or have a very reasonably priced meal. The setting is gorgeous with views out to sea and they're open day and night. Another must do is a walk through the 'drains'. These all little narrow streets lined with stalls selling everything from scarves and jewellery to hand made sandals and lemons. All in all a beautiful place to visit and a lovely hotel.

Room Tip: We chose the 5th floor. Better views and of course no noise from above. Although our room was situ...

we have just come home after spending our two week honeymoon in sorrento the hotel is very clean and only a short walk to the old town and the train station the staff are very pleasant and extremely helpful the food was good and plentyful the square nearest the hotel (angelina lauro) has cafes that all have free wifi as do most of the bars in the old town so wifi is never a problem and all the staff spoke very good english i cant fault any of the staff

Room Tip: ask for an upper floor facing the sea

Location: Excellent - walking distance to train/bus station, centre and harbour.
Reception: staff very helpful...even retuned the TV so that we could watch the FA Cup Final!
Room: basic, old but exceptionally clean. Had a balcony overlooking orchard and sea.
Food: basic continental breakfast-cordial fruit juice with an orange+lemon orchard across the street?! Evening meal-choice of 4 courses to be made at breakfast on that morning. We questioned the abundance of tinned vegetables+fruit, frozen fish and instant mashed potatoes! However, we never left feeling hungry. No menu choice on the 'Gala Evening'-a man singing and playing a keyboard.Be prepared to share your table.

Room Tip: Ask for a room away from the stairwell and lift....exceptionally noisy early in the morning with coa...

We always choose small hotels so, unlike a few other reviewers here, we know what to expect and we were not disappointed.
This hotel's greatest asset is its location in a quiet road with the main part of town, the excursion bus station and shops just a short stroll away, either through the neighbouring lemon and orange grove or via two alternative road routes.
Check out 'Traceys' store immediately opposite the lemon grove for souvenirs and last minute needs at well below the prices charged in the town centre ... 'The Drains' demand to be explored ...
On this seven day bargain break we arrived around 10pm and were immediately offered a meal as the dining room had been kept open for us. Reception staff were superb as were the hard working waiters and waitress who made each meal time an enjoyable experience.
Our 1700 hrs departure at the end was also facilitated by having free use of a basement room to store our luggage while we took a final stroll around Sorrento.
The room was exactly what we expected and met our needs. Although computer literate we see no need for wi-fi or anything else '-fi' on vacation! There are plenty of bars in town if you want them, but we didn't.
The Thomson rep aka resort adviser Lindsay provided a great welcome and her guided tour around Sorrento is an absolute must-do. The excursions [which we pre-booked in UK] were excellent value with knowledgeable guides and excellent drivers ... Amalfi Drive - Vesuvius and Pompeii - and Capri. The red open-top bus is equally great but it is best to take the 0930 option as crowds can gather later in the day.
A special word of praise to Thomson staff for their diligence at both airports, the hotel, the transfers and everything inbetween. All professional, friendly and plenty of them on hand as little or as much as needed.
To end on the hotel note ... spotlessly clean, great plumbing that works, generous meals with plenty of variety, comfortable room and courteous staff. Absolutely 10 out of 10!
Thanks to all concerned on making our trip so enjoyable.

Room Tip: In a place like Sorrento you need to be out and about so a balcony seems pretty pointless [our room...

2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 9 May 2012

We were 2 adults staying 5 nights in April. Hotel was clean but older, worn and outdated. Front desk staff was very friendly on check in. Reservation note stated 2 twins and verified with desk for 2 twins but room had one king which was 2 wins put together. Went back to desk who said the twins pull apart but I told them there was only a single king mattress pad-sheet-blanket. I was assured housekeeping would fix while we went about the town. Returned late that night to find room unchanged. Had to sleep directly on top of old gross twin mattress without pad or sheet (used bath towel) using scratchy extra blanket from closet. Not comfortable at all! Talked to front desk (different person) the next day explaining situation and was assured it would be taken care of immediately. Came back that evening and still not done. Called up and they sent housekeeping immediately who took care of it in 5 minutes. Not a good customer service moment. No wifi or computers anywhere in hotel or close by to hotel. Hotel was very noisy considering how few people stayed there. Could clearly hear anytime someone was in hallway or flushed toilet as water rushed through the walls all night. Staff in general was friendly enough but unable to overcome limitations of hotel which were painfully obvious when we were stuck inside for 2 days of havy rain. the 'bar' was rarely staffed and 2 times we asked for a drink and were told no one was available ??? Room TV was about a 12" color set with 3 english speaking chanels:BBC-MSNBC and CNBC. Continental breakfast was adequate (almost good) but 'monitored' by unfriendly 'buffet na*i' as my daughter called him. Had a confrontation with him the 4th morning after feeling harrassed by him last two times when he insisted we sit at a table next to swinging kitchen door when dining room was 95% empty. Stood over us while we were at buffet and stopped my 24 year old daughter from putting a sliced wheat roll through rolling toaster (grabbed it off the rollers) insisting that only the sliced white bread was allowed to be toasted. While sitting at table told us TOLD US! to put trash items (orange peels-napkins etc) in small bucket on table and not side plates. WTH??? So silly and overbearing like we were children that needed to be watched closely. We were looking around for hidden camera for a prank TV show it was so rediculous. Finally told him to quit harrassing us and talked to front desk lady who had a loud disagreement with him in dining room. That was the final straw with La Meridiana. Location is good-view from rooftop patio is excellent and almost worth the price of room by itself-price was acceptable but I cannot recommend to anyone with so many choices (literally dozens of hotels in this price range closer to Piazza Tasso) out there. I would give this place 2 1/2 stars if available as some of the staff was A+ and the hotel was very clean and a good price. Would have been an easy 3 1/2 except for issue with bed and buffet bully and lack of wifi. Our room overlooked a courtyard where the hotel next door had a very nice pool! lol...

Biggest plus is rooftop terrace(beware cheap plastic chairs that break)-overall cleanliness-and proximity (5 minute walk) to Circumvesuviana rail station (a huge plus!)-good price if you only need a bed and bathroom while seeing the Amalfi coast

Minus:Buffet bully-very basic and limited facilities-hotel desk speaks limited english (when everyone seemed to speak some english in Sorrento)-so called bar was never open-no room safe

Room Tip: Choose a top floor to minimize rushing water noise when someone flushes the toilet above you. As wit...

Our family thoroughly enjoyed our recent stay in La Meridiana .All staff were friendly and always helpful .Food choices were excellent (our 20 year old son particularly loved the Chefs Special dessert!).Our rooms were spotlessly clean, and the hotels proximity to the Circumvesuviana railway is another big plus.We would all love to return again.Best wishes and thanks.
