Yes this is a budget hotel. However, it was clean, tidy, friendly staff who had sufficient english. It is on the main road through Sorrento but decide what temprature you want your room, and tell reception as for some reason the air con is controlled from there. Then shut the windows to keep out the traffic. Shower worked well, bed was comfortable. Very easy to get to the town, railway and bus station. Dinners were good, a choice of three dishes on the three courses. Breakfasts were a feast! have as much as you could eat.

Over all, a really nice hotel at the top end of the three star range. Would stay there again

Room Tip: Ask for a fifth floor room...quieter.

Positives: Good location, nice balcony looking over the main drag with small pool to the rear

Negatives: Dated rooms, no fridge, poor breakfast, poor coffee, not tea making facilities, charged a whopping 3 Euros for 30 mins of Internet, the pool waiter constantly overcharged hotel guests for food and drinks.

Would I go back?; no! Idon't like the feeling of being conned by the reception staff and that pool waiter!!

We have returned from a five night stay at the Tourist hotel. We didn't have high hopes ...but...we were so happy by what we experenced. The staff are lovely and got to know their guests likes and dislikes, for example they knew we liked tea and they supplied quality tea ... not the usual liptons which is quite weak. The room was clean, tidy and spacious enough. Extra pillows were already in the room which was nice. We found the bed comfortable.Shower was very good and the air con worked very well....no complaints on those at all. The pool was very relaxing with a gentle stepped area to go into the pool or sit a little way in the water to cool off. The water seemed wamer than other hotels in the area, which of course added to the appeal of the pool. The pool was manned (when opened) all the time (and kept very clean) by the pool attendant/snack bar waiter...lovely cold drinks and lunches at good prices were aailable. The lemons trees provided beautiful scenery and shade in the poolside garden.
The breakfasts were good, a nice selection and some variety offered (different cooked eggs). The location of the hotel was excellent to walk everywhere (train station and Tasso Square). There are lots of places to eat within walking distance of the hotel. Our room was outside (entrance next to the pool) which was fine but we had paid for a balcony and it was next to the side street...not the best view...but it did not spoil our stay. Some book were available for guests to read or swap.
The hotel is next to a train track, but we didn't become aware of it until we saw a train go by...it wasn't something we were disturbed by.
The hotel lobby was suach a lovely place to sit and have a coffee or beer as it was beautifully air conditioned and a welcome relief from the heat outside.
Yes, we would stay again... :)

I returned from Sorrento yesterday where we had been booked into Hotel Tourist by Thomas Cook
I had simply expected greater comfort than the hard beds and modest space that our twin room afforded and much more peace at night than the front facing situation allowed. The traffic is non-stop and loud and even with ear plugs sleep was difficult and never uninterrupted. I felt jaded
and so facing the rigours of a holiday in high temperatures was very challenging. The pool was a welcome bonus but closed very early at 6pm. The standard of cleanliness throughout was very high and the staff were generally pleasant and helpful. Breakfast was varied and the buffet was plentiful. The evening meal was adequate and good value, costed by the hotel at eu15.00, for 3 courses, but not an exciting aspect of the holiday. Even though situated conveniently for getting to the centre (0.75km) and transport stations, a hotel does not do its job if you can't rest, relax or sleep. Travel agents should not offer it to package-travellers and guests should be wary of Hotel Tourist if they want or need to rest during their stay in hectic Sorrento.

It was a pleasure to stay at this small family hotel. Clean and comfortable with friendly helpful staff and a nice pool to return to at the end of a day's sightseeing, it was centrally situated making it easy to use local trains and buses for sightseeing and only a short walk into the town square and old town for eating out at night. What it lacked in wow factor it made up for with character!

Room Tip: Rooms with balcony at the back of the hotel are quieter.
