“Nice hotel for the price.”
Reviewed 9 June 2013

Both the room and bathroom were a good size and we were provided with plenty of towels that were changed on a daily basis. We had a balcony with out room that looked on to the main road, it was a good size and we enjoyed a few drinks out there watching the crazy Italian driving.

The breakfast was ok, it was a variety of hot standard breakfast items and lots of cakes and pastries.

The hotel was about a 5-10min walk from the main piazza in Sorrento. There were a few food shops near the hotel with a big supermarket round the corner.

We chose this hotel mainly because it had a pool, plus the price was good at the time of booking.
In general, the hotel was OK but the room was a bit tired and the bathroom needed some attention - Toilet seat and shower screen broken for example.
The breakfast was very basic and I was surprised that they didn't even have fresh orange juice (despite being in an area full of oranges and lemons).
The evening meal was included in the rate, but I'd give it a 2 out of 10 compared to local restauarants. We only ate there on the first night.
At breakfast, the waitor was very pushy to find out what we wanted for our evening meal. When I declined on the first morning, he said 'Why? Where you go?'
He was actually quite funny in a 'Fawlty Towers' kind of way.
If I returned to Sorrento, I would only stay here again if there was no other choice.
The room was clean and the bed was comfortable. That's all some people need.

Stayed here for 3 nights and basically picked it because it was the cheapest hotel we could find within close reach of the port, train station and buses. You can walk anywhere in Sorrento from here including to all the transport places, so from that perspective the hotel served its purpose. It was fine but no more than that... it's a hotel that does just enough not to be bad, but has no aspirations beyond that. I guess the clue is in the name, but it has the feel of a tourist trap to it, rather than somewhere welcoming you can call home for a few days.

Staff were OK, rooms were very basic, tired and cheaply furnished - just poor quality really and certain things didn't work, like a few of the lights or electric sockets, and the shower door didn't close properly. It was reasonably comfortable though and we had enough room to move around and the bathroom was also spacious. I echo the sentiments of other reviewers on the traffic - it is really loud. We were on the 4th floor and once the window was open (necessary as air con appeared to be broken) you couldn't hear the TV or the person you were speaking to across the room. I'd actually emailed the hotel in advance to request a room not on the street and they replied that they would sort it, but they obviously didn't. I didn't sleep that well because the options were either a stuffy room or noisy traffic. I also thought charging money to use a safe was pretty poor. At one point I went to reception to pick up my key and the reception was unattended and nobody was around; I waited and rang the bell several times and still nobody came; I then just reached over the counter to get my room key. Now if I can do that, it's pretty easy for someone to wander in off the street and do that - I didn't feel confident leaving my valuables in the room after that.

If you want somewhere cheap to stay while out all day sightseeing that's basically somewhere convenient, well-located and cheap, this hotel will do the job. If you want somewhere comfy where you can have a relaxing holiday and experience a bit of luxury, find somewhere else.

Room Tip: I would say ask for a room at the back of the hotel facing the garden, but then I did that and got a...

Dear guest,
we thank you so much for your review and we are very surpirsed for your comment because you enjoyed your stay with your convenience by the rates and range of the hotel.
We never try to sell our rooms like a boutique hotel or like a deluxe hotel, has we are just a convenient three star hotel for the location and for the rates.

I recently visited this hotel on a school trip with 45 children and 4 teachers and this whole holiday was the worst experience i have ever had. I have to say, what I'm going to write here is not as bad as the hotel we stayed in Rome but here the food was appalling. When we arrived there we had to all walk with our big suitcases for about 10mins to get to the hotel because there was no where for the coach to park. When we finally arrived the hotel looked nice but then once we got our key we had lug our suitcases up 4 huge flights of stairs. In the end we waited for the tiny lift but it took forever because the lift was in such demand. In my room there were 4 people all cramped into a tiny space, once we got the suitcases in we could barely move around each bed. The room was very hot but due to the bunk bed being in front if the window there was no way to open it so we tried the air con but it wasn't working in anyone's room. The bunk bed was very unsafe because there was a ladder to get up to the top but no bit for the ladder to clip onto so once you stepped onto it you immediately fell off. When you sat up in the bottom bunk bed you hair got caught in all the uncovered springs. The mattresses were comfy and so were the bed sheets but they were tucked in so tightly you could barley get in to the bed. The bathroom was nice and clean but every time you turned on the water the whole room smelt of a swimming pool, the chlorine. The towels were nice but once we used one as a hand towel there was not enough for the whole room. We also had to put one on the floor because once it got wet it was very slippery. The shower doors closed very awkwardly and there was not enough room to get in and out of the shower. Surprisingly the shower was nice with a strong power.
The food was horrible and the waiters had a stroppy attitude, they told you were to sit so you were lucky if you got to sit with your friends and they were very strict about the amount of water they gave us. The lunch the next day was a pack lunch with 2 rolls, a bottle of water and a small packet cake thing. This sounds like. Nice amount a food however when my friends and I found a hair in our rolls and it put us off completely. On this holiday we were sooo hungry and had to live off biscuits chocolate and crisps. I would never stay in this hotel again however Sorrento was a lovely place.

I have just returned from a school trip to the Bay of Naples where 26 students and 3 staff stayed at the Hotel Tourist. The staff are fantastic - excellent customer service and they all went out of their way to ensure our stay was a good one.
The food maybe basic, but in my personal exerience it was 100 times better in terms of quality and quantity compared to a another hotel in the area where we stayed in 2010. Packed lunches provided every day were good.
Rooms were basic but clean and comfortable. The hotel is excellently located - easy access to main square in Sorrento (5-10min walk).
Will definitately choose to stay here again on our next school visit to the region.

my school used this hotel for a school Geography trip in and around Naples. It was a good base as its placed in the lovely town of Sorrento and means its easily accessible by coach, and its a short walk away from the port, which you can pick up the ferry to Capri. The rooms were cleaned everyday and had lots of storage space. They showers were lovely and hot, and the bathroom was very spacious. The TVs are brand new, and are mounted on the wall so they don't get in the way.
However, what let this hotel was its appalling food. It was always cold, greasy and generally not up to standards for a 3 star hotel. The hotel clearly catered for school groups, but the students and teachers got no choice in what we were served each night, and it was mostly simplistic food such as breaded fish from the supermarket and frozen burgers, not the Italian cuisine expected! The breakfast was slightly better, it was continental but with no much choice. I consisted of one breakfast cereal and brioche rolls with a choice of spreads.
If you are looking for somewhere which is basic, then this hotel will be substantial. But if you are looking to enjoy your food whilst in Italy seen by some as the food capital of the world, don't stay here!

Dear Guests,
the hotel staff are keen to point out that all foods served at our restaurant are fresh and bought daily.
Writes that our roms are clean, the location is great, the bathroom is spacious and cozy but scorns our food.
Our food is perhaps simple but just look at the review of one of his colleagues to understand that it is personal and can be very much appreciated.

A perfect place for all our trips. Easy access to the train station and coaches which are cheap.. The staff are friendly and helpful, one was a bit Basil Fawlty though, and the rooms clean. Our balcony overlooked a very busy junction. If no railing we could have stepped straight onto the coaches that went past!! I was poised with camera to catch an accident.( It didn't happen.) We only ate breakfast as so many lovely places to eat in town.Good value hotel.
