We had a lovely time at the Metropol, clean, a little dated, but charming. The food was good and the staff were friendly. To visit Pompeii just catch the train, really easy and cheap. Also the regular bus service travels the Amalfi coast.

We have just returned from a week at the Hotel Metropole. The hotel was clean with good
decoration and good food - something for everyones taste. Our room overlooked the
garden which was quiet - apart from the odd motorcycle on the top road. All the staff were
very helpful and it seemed a happy hotel.

Room Tip: Our bedroom was quite large with an adequate bathroom with plenty of storage for clothes etc.

Hotel clean and roomy but strangely out of date. It needs a professional "make-over". Ambviance creepy with odd staff. One nice wine waiter, but the rest could be out of a Munster film. The food was unbelievable. The main course on the "Gala" evening was tinned peas, frozen crochet potatoes and a very thin slice of meat covered in salty gravy. Horrid. Sorrento is so beautiful, the hotel let the holiday down. ( BTW there is a lovely little place next door with gorgeous food )

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quiet with an uphill view of the olive groves

We stayed on the third floor at the front, and it was fairly noisy in the day time but what hotel woudn't be in Sorrento.Once the balcony doors were shut at night it was very quite and we had a good nights sleep. The food was good with plenty of choice in the evening, the breakfast was the same but plenty of it.All the staff that we came into contact with waiters reception, barman.were very helpful and friendly..The room had a small balcony with views over the bay of Naples,it was clean, the shower worked well no complaints about any thing.

Room Tip: Third floor front good views

Just spent a week at the Hotel Metropole in Sorrento. We were on the third floor with a sea view and after reading reviews about the noisy road, were a little concerned that it would keep us awake. We had a small balcony with a lovely view of Vesuvius and doors which opened above the road, but with the doors closed we couldn't hear the road at all, so it was not a problem. We didn't need the A/C on as it was October. The room was spotlessly clean with a 6ft bed and wonderful bed linen which seemed to be replaced daily, and also the towels. The furniture was basic but the room was quite large and although the bathroom fittings were dated, it was adequate. We usually go for all-inclusive or buffet style food, but we couldn't fault the meals in this hotel with a good choice from the menu for all three courses. We were given the evening menu at breakfast so we could put in our order and it all arrived efficiently when we sat down in the evening. On our last night it was billed as Gala Night and no menu was shown to us that morning, so we weren't quite sure what was happening. We arrived to candlelit tables and a young man who played an electric organ and sang very well - all topical Italian and English songs. At the start of each course the music changed to a rousing intro as the three waiters marched out with several plates each, which they marched to the music around the dining room, to great applause. Whilst all this was going on there was monsoon-like rain hammering down outside and thunder and lightning which came to a crescendo just as they marched out with a flaming pudding which was the last course. The thunder rolled and lightning lit up the dining room to add to the grand finale, just before the power cut. Luckily the main meal was over and the power came back on again in time to serve the dessert. The waiters were all extremely friendly and helpful for the whole week and nothing was too much trouble. All in all a very nice and friendly hotel.

We stayed at this hotel in early October. We had not pre booked but turned up on spec. We were invited to view a room. Our room was overlooking the garden at the rear. It was peaceful and clean if a little dated. Bed was very comfortable and the room was a good size. Breakfast was included and this was of a good continental standard.
Parking was free and is a must if staying in Sarrento with a car. The hotels car park is secure and under the hotel. I had read other reports that it was quite difficult to get in and out of the car park. It was a little restricted but I managed to get our large Mercedes in and out quite easily. I felt the car was safe here.
Hotel staff were helpful and spoke some English. It is a 15 minute walk into the centre of Sorrento, but be advised walking back up the hill could be quite arduous in the heat of summer.
Next door was a very good restaurant and reasonably priced. 2 courses and bottle of wine about €45 to €50s.
Would definitely stay there again.

Room Tip: Ask for a room at the front if you want a good view of the bay

The hotel was not only on a steep hill, but right on a main road with constant traffic noise and beeping horns all day long. Walk into Sorrento precarious because of the lack of pavements. Luckily there was a bus service for the way back, but you diced with death crossing the road to the hotel. Hotel was very basic but clean, nonetheless the ants marching across the bedroom ceiling and along the doorsill out to the pool were rather offputting. The unheated pool was far too cold to swim in. The tiny lift only held 2 persons plus luggage, not good when you have a coachload of guests arriving. The 1.floor seemed to have a nice wide balcony and modern TV. We were on the 2.floor with a very narrow balcony and a little black box of a TV, so high on the wall you could not see it properly. Not that we came to watch TV. The food was pretty mediocre we thought and always rather salty. We had been looking forward to great Pasta and Pizza, no such luck. The waiters did their best to be friendly, but were absolutely rushed off their feet, felt sorry for them.
We enjoyed Sorrento, the coast and Capri, and Pompei was amazing. The hotel however was rather a let-down.

Room Tip: Chose a 1.floor room. The front has a bit of a sea-view, however is much noisier than the rear.
