we stayed at the Ascot 20th to 27th september. We travelled half board with first choice. The food is ok, but a bit to much of the same thing, but not bad. Breakfast was not enough choice for me, being mainly continental. If you want a cooked breakfast it is extra.
There are metal shutters on the windows of the rooms, if you do not have the shutters down and the windows shut, the noise of the main road is very loud, if you do have the shutters down, it is very claustraphobic and hot. The rooms were clean, and a maid every day.
The town is nice, but if you're staying a week, be prepared it can get boring, cos unless you can afford excusions everyday, or if you just want restaurants day and night, or shopping, there not much else to do. once you have been around the shops once, you have been around them all week.
We booked 3 excusions with the first choice rep, and the first one they went without us, as they tend to arrive earlier than they say, and outside of the hotel is chaos as there are other coaches and lots of people. Also, the trips start early, around 8.oclock, but as i said, they come earlier than they say and they dont wait, or check for you. We had to argue to get the trip on another day, but the rep did eventualy arrange it after a threat of complaining and a bad review on trip advisor.
A trip to Capri was also chaotic, a lovely place, but not much organisation when you get to the island. There were 3 cruise liner tours and a lot of students, and they line you up to get on the train that takes you up the mountain to the village, They only let on 80 a time, but it is like rush hour on a monday morning. And then a bartering system with your guide and a mini bus organiser to take tou up further to Ana Capri. An optional excusion by boat around the isle turned out to be a white knuckle ride, so if you're seasick, dont do it!
But if you go, try out some of the resturants rather than just your otel for food, as there are some lovely ones.
I think this is a place ok for 3 nights, but not a week.

We booked 3 excusions, wed, fri and sunday

Just returned from Sorrento after a week's stay at the Ascot. Hotel had ideal location, staff helpful and friendly. Rooms were small but clean. Noticed previous comments with regards to the food at the hotel - I class myself as a fussy eater but can honeslty say I enjoyed the food all week and thought it had plently of variety. Couple of days I didn't want a starter as I struggle to eat three courses - but the waiter offered me an alternative which was melon with parma ham which was lovely and left me plenty of room for my main course and dessert. Would recommend this hotel to friends and would stay there again if I went back to Sorrento.

Just returnd from the Ascot and loved it. For the price we paid it was great. The location as others have said is ideal with all public transport within easy reach and no need to use the very expensive taxis!
The hotel is typically italian is clean and welcoming.Fortunata the receptionist couldnt be any nicer.
The food was really nice and i had some of the best pasta dishes i have ever had. The staff in the dining room couldnt be more pleasant and the service was first class.
I would recommend the Ascot to anyone but remember you didnt pay 5 star prices so dont expect it to be 5 star.

We stayed at the Ascot for a week at the end of August 2010. The location is perfect being an easy stroll along the road to Sorrento town. Generally, we found that the Ascot satisfied our needs for the week with a comfortable quiet room and nice pool area. Some of the hotel is a bit tired. For example, although the bathroom was perfectly usable it really needed refurbishing. We felt that with a little investment it could easily achieve another star rating.

The worst thing about our stay was the food. It did seem that however it was described on the menu it did appear to be remarkably similar to what was served up the night before. How tinned pears with a squirt of cream on top can be described as 'cake' on the menu remains a mystery which even the waiter couldn't explain ! The food was obviously prepared to a very tight budget which may be because the tour companies are not prepared to pay enough for the accomodation. We would have preferred to have paid a little more for better quality food.

We felt it offered reasonable value and enjoyed our week there.

We have just returned from the Ascot Hotel in Sorrento where we stayed for 2 weeks in August. The hotel is very good value for a 3 star. The location is excellent, just minutes from the historic centre of sorrento and a short walk from the train station. The rooms are adequate and were kept clean, although we had room 212 and there was no cold water in the bathroom during the 2 weeks we were there.

The only bad thing about this hotel was the food. Most nights it was tasteless and not eatable. Some nights we could not even workout what it was supposed to be. There seemed to be pork on the menu every night. A few of our party suffered stomach upsets due to the food so it would be advisable to book bed and breakfast as opposed to half board. The hotel reuses leftover food from the day before. On a couple of mornings even the criossants were mouldy but on complaining, hotel staff did not respond properly.

Beware if travelling with Thomson as the rep, nicole is useless. Her knowledge of the local area was limited and when we informed her about the mouldy food at breakfast she said she liked the food and did not take the complaint seriously.

We would love to return to sorrento again as it is beautiful but will not return to this hotel.

We stayed here with six adults and three children under 7 for two weeks in august.

The rooms were nice and very clean from what we found, with linen and towels changed regularily.

The pool was small but nice and suitable also for children (though beware of loose tiles at bottom of pool as one of our party cut there foot).

The location was minutes from the beaches, the main piazza and the train stations. We thought it couldnt get any better.

UNTIL.... Enter the restaraunt. Table cloths and for bits not cleaned up from evening before breakfast. Re-used for on half board menu. For eg./ Pork escalope every night!! Reworded as "meat", or "loin". Mouldy bread at breakfast, which when challenged on we were told "it is only a little bit"!!

Worst food ever had. Beware, book b and b as opposed to half board. Apart from food the hotel is great, but the food takes this hotel from a 3 star to a 1.

GOOD LUCK!

I stayed in the Hotel Ascot for a week in July. The location could not be better just a short walk from the main historic area. The staff in the hotel were very helpful and friendly, especially the lovely waiters in the dining room. The hotel was always clean and the rooms were cleaned daily. The swimming pool and area was clean and well maintained.
The food was good, breakfast, there was plenty of choice and you could have cooked breakfast for a small charge, although with so much to choose from there was no need.
The evening meals were always very nice with three choices.
For a three star hotel the Ascot is very good value and offers excellent service.
