Had a fantastic 2 week stay at The Continental and as the title says we would go back tomorrow... however it is now looking unlikely as the hotel is going to be B&B only next year. The evening meals were superb and are the main reason that we have given the hotel 5/5, along with it's perfect location and amazing staff. As other reviewers have commented, the staff in the restaurant (Antonio and Franco in particular) are very friendly and go out of their way to spoil you and enjoy recommending dishes to you. Watch out for Franco and the dessert trolley as we were regularly given 3 or 4 desserts!
The swimming pool is lovely and ideal for a nice swim. There were plenty of sun beds and although there were not many parasols, 1 side of the pool was always in the shade. There were no problems with people reserving sunbeds and the pool area was usually very quiet when we used it between 4 -6pm.
We stayed in room 101 which had an internal balcony, which we were aware of when we booked our holiday so it came as no surprise (Direct Holidays wanted another £300 for the 2 weeks for a view). We have included pictures of the view from the room and the staircase pictured is private (can be accessed by rooms on the 1st floor) and in 2 weeks we saw nobody walking up or down them. Not having a pretty view didn't bother us as we spent so little time in the room. We could easily enjoy a view of the Bay of Naples from the roof terrace or the terrace areas in front of the Hotel.
The Hotel is perfectly located for exploring Sorrento, which is a wonderfully vibrant place and an ideal gateway for those wishing to explore the Amalfi Coast.
The only criticism about this hotel would be that the bar prices are a little too high with the cheapest bottle of wine costing 19 euros and cocktails 8 euros. If you enjoy cocktails then go to Naima which is a couple of streets away and they only cost 5 euros!

We had a lovely stay. Clean and comfortable lovely location but the staff made the holiday very special. They were very attentive and friendly. We took our 2 teenagers and they loved the pool and the shopping. We also visited the sites Pompeii and Vesuvius. It is cheap and easy to get the train ( Circumvesuviana) to these sites. When visiting Pompeii get the audio guide and you can take it at your own pace. The food in the hotel was very good and at lunch we ate out for around 40Euros for food and drinks.

Room Tip: High floor and front facing rooms for best views but cost more.

We stayed in Sorrento for our 2 week holiday. The hotel is in a brilliant position. We were bed & breakfast which was nice, so therefore cannot comment on evening meals.
We were upgraded to a junior suite free of charge which was a beautiful room very spacious with a fantastic balcony overlooking the Bay of Naples.(room number 402) All the staff in the hotel are excellent very friendly and efficient. The only negative comment is there is not enough sunbeds and umbrellas at the pool.

We stayed here for 2 nights after spending several nights at the Excelsior Vittoria in Sorrento. While the location is a little further away then the Excelsior from the main square and pier it is still very convenient and walkable to the everywhere in downtown Sorrento. We had a balcony with a great view of the Bay of Naples and Mt. Vesuvius.

The hotel is located in more of a quiet area, it is a nice property and offers reasonable rates. The rooms were clean and the service was good.

We stayed at the Continental Hotel, Sorrento during the first week of August 2011 and had a very enjoyable holiday. This was our second visit to Sorrento having previously stayed in a self catering apartment. Here is our list of our pluses and negatives for the hotel.
Good points:
Excellent evening meals
Excellent service from the staff
Large, clean swimming pool
Very pleasant public areas (reception, bar)
Good location close to town centre
Air conditioning in rooms at no extra charge
No charge for use of safe in rooms
Less good:
Avoid room 122, we had an awful balcony, so enclosed it felt as though we were in a basement with little privacy from guests in nearby rooms
Limited storage space for clothing etc. in the room (we were uanble to unpack our cases)
Insufficient sunbeds leading to a towel occupation of said beds by the (largely British) guests each morning.
Insufficient Parasols around the pool - can be a problem in the afternoon if you don't wish to sunbathe
No toddler pool for young children
Swimming pool and table tennis are the only entertainments for children
Largely uninspired and unchanging choice of breakfast fare
The square at the front of the hotel can be noisy in the evening
The beach to which access is provided from the hotel (at a cost of 3 euros) is not particularly pleasant
Would we use the hotel again? Yes provided the superb evening meal service is maintained (apparently the hotel may be offering B&B only) and that we had an external view and balcony

Room Tip: Avoid room 122 and specify an external view

Hi, We stayed for one week at the end of July/start of August. Hotel wonderful - all staff friendly and welcoming - nothing was too much. Room was great - room 120 with large terrace. Towels (bathroom and pool) provided, as well as gowns, shampoo, soap etc. Breakfast was toast, scrambled eggs, continental or fruit - fine to start the day. Evening meal a la carte - better than sloppy help yourself where people have picked out the best bits. Bar service great but be careful as you are allowed to run up an account - quite expensive but fantastic quality and service. Pool area quiet, clean, enjoyable but no outside drinks/food to be consumed. No scutters, drunks, loud mouths.
Sorrento - amazing. Picturesque, old and new, crazy busy but also laid back - you need to experience it. Not much of a beach - expensive if you venture to the private areas, crowded on the public beaches. Loads of steps down to the beach and port - breath takingly beautiful. The two supermarkets are far cheaper to purchase drinks from - 20 cents for a bottle of water, 50 cents for fizzy drinks - compared to 3.50 Euros in bars. Ensure you check your change - especially when purchasing tickets (tram in Capri) and at the airport. They go so quick and slap the change in front of you. Stand there and check the price on the ticket, add it in your head and confront them. Could have been caught out several times but fortunate to catch on quickly. Went to Pompeii - you need to see it to appreciate the size but all becomes the same after a while. Note prices are not OTT in the Pompeii restaurant/shop or the sites outside. Went to Capri - travelling with teenager so did not get to fully walk around. Best to wait until mid morning to set off to Capri as queues for tram huge. Get there about 12-ish.
Wonderful experience - great at the price we paid. 10/10. Can be a jaunt from airport to resort on a Friday evening. Not much for kids but teen had music on phone. Weather, view fantastic.

Room Tip: Shop about for a good deal and email the hotel prior to arrival re upgrade.

Just returned from a week in Sorrento with my 14 year old daughter. The hotel is in a great location - very handy for all Sorrento's attractions. She loved the pool - but avoid the beach as it is expensive. Sunbeds and umbrellas are free around the pool.
The staff here are wonderful - so friendly and helpful. they made us feel very welcome. Antonio and Franco in the dining room kept us entertained with their double-act - they are absolute gems. Giovanni in the pool bar/main bar is lovely too - very helpful in finding football on the TV even though he was upset that my team, Liverpool, beat Napoli last year!
I've heard that the owners are thinking of changing to B & B only which is a shame especially as they seem to have so many regular guests.
