Just had two weeks at the Continental and loved it almost everything about it.

The pluses are:
It's in a great location right beside the historic centre and about five minutes stroll from Piazza Tasso. It's an easy walk to both Marina Piccola and Marina Grande (not so easy coming back up though).
Our room was spacious and spotless, with a huge bathroom, bathrobe, slippers and loads of toiletries. We had an amazing sea view and sat out on our balcony every night to watch the stunning sunsets over the bay.
The dinners were also excellent, not a huge choice, but as good as and often better than meals we had in Sorrento's restaurants.
One of the biggest pluses were the lovely staff, who are hugely professional and friendly and helpful - especially Giovanni the barman (try his award-winning cocktail) and Antonio, who runs the restaurant - they are a brilliant source of travel tips and advice.

Only minus for me was the rather boring breakfasts. I'd certainy go back there again and I'd recommend it to anyone.

Just returned from the Continental and had a fantastic time! The staff is incredible, especially Tonino, Salvatore, Francesco, and Giovanni. They catered to our every need and I had 50 people with me (and they were picky Americans who are use to comfort). Wish they were open year round, because I will be back in Nov and Dec and would love to stay there again.

The hotel itself is very nice, if a little quiet this time of year - but the staff are extremely polite and warm to you - although we didn't find out some secrets until the end of the holiday - such as, speak with Giovanni at the bar (24 years he's been there) and he'll tell you everything you need to know. Have a drink with him and tip him well, and you'll notice the prices of your drinks decrease each time :-)

Swimming pool was freezing cold, so my swim lasted a little over 30 seconds - room was almost as cold during the evening, so we had to get extra blankets, but very quick to arrange.

Food was fantastic at the hotel - we don't normally eat at the holiday hotel - and each night we suggested we would try tomorrow "just in case" - and each night it got better and better - the pasta was sublime. Antonina "Tony" and his staff work tirelessly to make sure everything is good.

Location is ok if you're looking to see the Marina Grande, and just a couple of minutes from the main Piazza - Sorrento is so small you can't really have a bad location.

My only gripe is the room positioning. They charge a lot for a "sea view" - but don't bother. The balconies are too small to be of any use - and you may as well use the lovely decking at the front of the hotel and save yourself a few hundred £$. Also, the hotel is not directly on the cliff top - there's a hotel next door - so ignore those brochure photo's !

We stayed at the Continental for a week in early June 2008. Overall the hotel was good. The room we had and the public areas were clean and tidy and the staff were always pleasant and helpful. It is in a quiet location but close enough to the main areas of Sorrento. We were a little disappointed with the food. Breakfast was boring with little variety. Diluted fruit juices and tinned fruit were not what we expected. The food and choice at dinner were good but more fresh vegetables would have been nice.
The pool was good but the lack of sun beds was surprising and being charged to use those that were there was over the top.

If you do go to this hotel avoid rooms 101 and 102 as they have no balcony view what so ever [ see photos ]. Our balcony for which Thomas Cooks charged us £215 only got the sunbetween 5pm and 6pm, just when the kitchen extractors started up. As yet TCs have not offered any rational explanation of how they can charge so much for so little, apart from quoting from the fine print of their terms and conditions!!

Continetal is an old but very "fresh and hosty" hotel located in the old town of Sorrento, just next to Corso Italia, the marinas and several restaurants and shopping opportunities. If you need a view - don't stay here, the hotel i overlooking a park where all masters bring their dogs for their needs and two schools.

The rooms is comfortable with furnished balconies, a easy chair and good space for your luggage. Maintenance and standard is good - and by the bed there is a control function to manage lights, aircondition and DND. The TV is very old and small (but who are in Sorrento to watch TV). Bathrobes and slippers and several towels that was changed all day. Missing some of the amenities that give you the "little extra" such as a little more increased toiletries (not as now useless shampoo/shower/bath product) sewing kit, shoe shining, paper and pen, coffee/tea maker or turn-down service.

We was not charged any extra charges for using the pool area, it was nice and clean and the pool bar service and range was excellent. Easy and convient reached by the elevator from all hotel room floors.

The staff and service is good, specially from the front desk. The attitude from the boys in the restaurant was sometimes very high professional and sometimes silly and unacceptable - all depend who you got as your waiter! The half-board package we had included is well composed with a menu of to day and several options - we never felt it was boring.

Its silly you can't pay your bill with a credit- or debit card. You where never told or shown a pricelist in the dining room so you donät know what your bill ends with. However, the hotel service isn't overpriced.

Continental is not exlusive or elegant - its just a classic place with nice staff and good rooms. The bar and lounge area was boring, take advantage of a afternoon coffee at the Bellevue Syrene Hotel next to the hotel with a great terrace.

We stayed in this hotel for 3 nights as part of our Honeymoon. The room was very clean and we had a sea side room that looked out on the pool and the sea. We had no problem with the room being cleaned everyday and the chambermaid turns down your bed everynight.

The pool was clean and we did not have to pay for a chair around the pool. We did have to pay for the elevator, beach pass, and sun bed for the beach. I believe it was worth it. The beach area is very nice and relaxing. We stayed out there for a full day. There is a restaurant where you can eat and drink by the sea, or take your food back to your sunbeds. If you are going to stay here I would recommend going down to the beach at least for a day.

The breakfast was good, pasteries, cereal, fruit, coffee, etc. They did have scrambled eggs and bacon, but they're not the same as in america! They were kind of slimy and weird, but it was the same in other hotels we stayed at in Italy.

We did a day trip to Pompeii and did not book a tour package. We just got on the train by ourselves which was only about 2euros a piece. The train was 20 minutes to get there and it was very easy to find the entrance to the site as soon as you get off the train.

The staff at this hotel were very friendly and most spoke English. They helped us charge my camera battery when it died and we needed a converter to plug it in. They also helped with anyother questions we had during our stay.

It is not the most modern hotel in its decor, but that didnt bother me at all. I would definitly recommed it.

This hotel is superb! Its location is ideal, the main piazzo tasso is within easy walking distance. It is worth paying for a sea view, simply because if you are facing away from the sea the views are not great. You have a school on one side and some rooms face each other as the hotel is in 'like a u-shape'. We booked this hotel based on the reviews on trip advisor and they did not let us down. The staff are extremely friendly and do everything they can to help you. The room we had was of a very high standard. We had 'his & her sinks' bathrobes, slippers (that were changed during the holiday), free safe, remote contol shutters, air-conditioning, very very good. The highest compliment I can pay the food is that we stayed for two weeks and only ate out the once. We didn't find it too repetitive and the staff were very flexible, e.g you could have a starter as your main course. The only problem we had in the restaurant was the knives needed sharpening. The hotel was very clean and easily deserved its four star rating. We spoke to a lot of English people who stayed there and nobody had a bad word to say about the hotel. It is very difficult to put in words how highly we rated this hotel. There was only one thing that we didn't like. You had to pay 3 euros each, every day, for a sun-bed around the hotel's pool area. This is just not inkeeping with the rest of the hotel. Its not cheap to stay here and this felt like a cheap shot to get money from you. We felt the sunbeds should have been free. However when you speak to the hotel staff we were told this is the same in most hotel in Sorrento. Also there is the lift tto the beach area. This is one of the lifts in the hotel and private to the residents. You have to pay 3 euros each to use it, this is a bit bizarre but its a good experience. The lift stops in a cave and you have to walk around 150 yards to a time locked gate that lets you onto the beach. But be aware you have to pay to go onto the beach, two sun loungers and an umbrella are 22 euros in total. I know this sounds ridiculous but the beach area is superb, the sea is so still and warm you could stay in the water all day. Plus you get waiter service on the beach for your drinks and food. Yes its expensive but trust me you have to do it a couple of times during your holiday. As far as the trips are concerned do not under any circumstances do the organised trips to capri, positano or pompeii. Do them yourself by boat and train, you will save an absolute fortune and you have the freedom to come and go as you please. However saying that the one organised trip you must do is the amalfi drive. It is not to be missed and you need to do it by bus. One final thing about the hotel and area, this is not a holiday for young children. There is nothing for them to do, the hotel does not provide any real facilities for young kids and they will get bored very quickly. All in all a fantastic hotel, we would definitely go back, we just need to save up a bit.
