“Could stay again...”
Reviewed 21 April 2014

Spent recently 3 nights - nothing to complain, except that the view from balcony was to the railwaystation 5 minute walk from the hotel - luckily the trains stopped at the station for the night.
Very small swimming pool and no beach-resort, but I was not looking for that either. Very good location near to the main square and shops and bars. Lovely park across the street. I did expect something more from the breakfast and the dinner was not much of a gourmet, but ok. Waiters were very friendly.

I stayed two nights and could of stayed for much longer!! The Hotel was beautiful and very clean. I checked in via my tour guide Ornella from my trip to Pompei. All very smooth! My room also backed onto the train line but for me this was not a problem. As a single traveller I found the size of the room fantastic!!! The bathroom was amazingly huge which I love!!! Beds very comfortable and cosy!!! The staff were amazing at my dinner service!! Extra special attention as a solo traveller. Staff are vey accommodating and are more than happy to make your stay pleasant!! I am already planning my next stay there!!

We had a 2 night stay here and absolutely loved it. You are within walking distance to everything. The staff are lovely and very helpful. The breakfast was continental , there was plenty to choose from. We had dinner included in our package which was a set menu but again, the variety was good. Some people asked for other choices and that was no problem, the staff were very accommodating. The only criticism I have is the shower was very small. The rooms are small but certainly comfortable enough. There is free wifi in the foyer. We would love to stay here again if we returned to Sorrento.

We stayed here for four nights and found the hotel to be ideally placed with lovely spacious rooms, our room had a private terrace and our travelling companions had a balcony with a table etc. The rooms were clean and unlike other some other reviewers we found our bathroom to be roomy and clean. The food was fairly plain but tasty; breakfast continental and varied and the waiting staff polite and helpful. The hotel is well located near the Centre of Sorrento yet we experienced no noise from outside that disturbed sleep. We would recommend this as a pleasant place to stay.

Room Tip: Ask for a room with a balcony

Having booked a package deal to Sorrento last year to find the hotel was 10 miles away from the city, we decided we must 'Come Back to Sorrento', but stay centrally this time. Well the Michelangelo is ideally placed, especially as the station is just around the corner and only 2.20 Euros to Herculaneum which was wonderful when we got there.
The pluses :-
1) A great welcome in reception. Why do other hotels not realise that reception is your first impression and a frosty face behind the counter can influence your view of your whole stay. In fact every member of staff that we had contact with was lovely
2) The dinners were beautiful. Often when you have paid upfront for half-board at a hotel,
the dinner can be very ordinary. We had a gourmet experience every night and the portions were not what some get away with calling nouveau cuisine so that they can be mean, they fill your plate here. We must especially mention Gianluigi who mostly looked after us and his great combination of friendliness and civility was just right.
3) While not especially palatial, the rooms are very comfortable and well looked after.
4) As I had emailed in advance that it was my wife's birthday the day we arrived, they produced a beautiful cake for her at dinner which was as good to eat as it was to look at.
There are only a couple of things that prevent me from giving 5 stars :-
1) The breakfast was not very special. OK I suppose as a continental breakfasts go, but we have had a lot better ones than here
2) The strange policy of wi-fi internet being free in the lobby, but they charge if you use it in the room - why?
I would have awarded 4.5 if tripadvisor allowed it.

Rooms smell.... Showers are awful and small. Our shower head was not in a good position but facing out onto the bathroom floor. Located right on the train line which runs from 6am. Cigarette smoke comes through the vents from the terrace. The balcony door completely fell off from the hinges so we were unable to let fresh air in. No view and the food was not very nice.
The location to Central sorrento is good. Took 2 hours for reception to organise more pillows.
Overall for a 4 star hotel it was not worth the stay... Disappointed!!!

Room Tip: Don't stay here

My partner and I stayed here in March. The hotel is very clean and the staff are very friendly. The room was lovely with a balcony and the bathroom was large with plenty of towels We stayed in room 42 it was a nice sized room with a mini bar Found the bath to be quite slippery.Breakfast was continental as expected - bread, crossiants, cereals, cheese, ham, eggs. Had dinner here on two nights food was ok soup we had for starter was lovely main meals ok.Hotel location very near main attractions and the centre of Santorini.
