“Very Italian”
Reviewed 30 July 2014

Great hotel, right in the centre of town and very close to the station and the bus to Amalfi.
The staff are lovely and I can't understand the people who have written reviews to the contrary.
If you are going here are some helpful hints
1. On the journey from the airport to the hotel, sit on the right
2. Don't book a trip to Pompeii. The station is a stone's throw from the hotel and the train stops right outside Pompeii itself. The train costs about E3 each and entry is E11 - the organised trip is over E35
3. The audio guide isn't worth having. It describes rooms that you can no longer go into and it's very hard to work out which number you're supposed to be listening to.
4. A trip to Capri - E75+ for the organised tour. The port is a short walk away from the hotel and the ferry costs about E35, you then get a bus to Capri town for another couple of euros. Make sure you go up the cable car as well.
Getting around is so easy; the hotel has timetables on their computer and will print off copies for you. - then just ask for directions.

Room Tip: Ask for a quiet room.

Good location for centre of Sorrento. Not 4 star but reasonable for Italian standards for both room and furniture. Don't bother asking for special requests on booking as these will not be honoured - we asked not to be overlooking railway but that's what we got (trains run until 11.30pm). However there were worse balcony locations in this hotel and unless you are part of a large bus tour you will not get a sea view. Standard of food very mixed - most reliable is the pasta! Suggest you ask for pasta starter as a main if in doubt!! There is no parking at the hotel but they do have an arrangement for underground parking 400m away capped at 15 euros per day. This service is fine but a bit awkward if you need your car every day which we did. Safe keys are available on request at no extra charge so I don't know why they don't just give you them when you check in! Wi fi works in lobby and is free. Upper sun terrace better than crammed small pool/sunbathing area. Hotel fine for short stay and touring.

Room Tip: balcony room on higher floor at front of hotel gives best view

My room was more like an apartment than a room! It even had a jacuzzi and large private balcony. It was clean and comfortable, quite and safe. It was on the main road in Sorrento so easy to walk to many shops and restaurants. The staff were very helpful and I was able to store my luggage after check out.

Visited as part of a European coach tour and I have to say after reading some of the reviews before departure I was a little concerned. However we would not hesitate to stay again, the location is very central to the main area, the hotel is both in public and bedroom areas are kept immaculately clean, with clean linen and towels provided every day. The waiters both in the restaurant and in the bar Giovanni were a credit to the hotel and provided us with great service and lots of laughs at meal times. We did have a room with a balcony over looking the pool which was nice after a day of sight seeing and the roof terrace was a great area to relax and soak up the beautiful Sorrento sun. Missing Sorrento and all at the Michelangelo already loving forward to returning again soon to sample some more of the wonderful prosecco and Sorrento hospitality :))

Actually stayed here one night on a Viator tour, we were supposed to be at a hotel overlooking the bay but they ran out of rooms, the hotel was neat and clean and it may have worked out better for us as we had a teenager and we were only blocks from the plaza and could walk all over. Across the street from the hotel was a gorgeous lemon grove.Stayed in April 2010 but not an option for when did you travel.Great weather. Dinner menu was very nice.

I never write a review but felt I had to say what a wonderful service we received at this hotel and it made a real difference to our holiday experience. We found the hotel very clean and the cleaners came in to clean every day. The staff in every department couldn't do enough for us and were extremely helpful and friendly in every way. They also had a sense of humour and always greeted you with a smile and a welcome word whatever time of the day or night. We had a room in the middle right on the top floor which gave us a sea view looking over to Naples and the island of Capri and the menancing sight of the volcano versuvius. It is in an excellent location to all amenities. Shops and restaurants are plentiful. We didn't have a bad meal. We made the most of discovering Sorrento and had many long walks. We went on trips to Erolano on the train, (similar to Pompeii), Capri, (where we rented our own boat) and the Amalfi coast by coach. We didn't have any problems sleeping and the beds were comfortable and the air conditioning was good. The pool was colder than usual but very refereshing and there was a lot of choice in the breakfast room. They even made me omelettes and let my boyfriend bring the breakfast up to our room. We stayed ten nights and didn't want to come home. If we visited Sorrento again I would definately want to stay again at the Michelangelo. Thanks to everyone. Especially Michel the Reception manager, and lovely Giavanni in the bar. Hope to see you again one day.

Clare Hopkins and Pete Lowman.

We chose The Michelangelo based on some previous reviews but I think some of these people stayed at a different hotel. Whilst we agree that it is ideally placed for the town centre and transport links and also that our room was kept very clean, the food which we were served, on the 3 nights we ate there, was terrible. We had paid for half board for 7 nights but could not stomach any more of the restaurants offerings. The breakfasts were only slightly better but only just. Also, the restaurant was lacking in atmosphere and at every meal we had there, the waiters were busy setting large tables for bus parties. This involved them wheeling in large, unsightly plastic boxes. Our room (202) had a shower head that would not stay up and a shower screen that leaked water all over the bathroom floor. This was reported to reception on the first day but nothing was done. We had a pleasant balcony on our room but were unable to use it as it was only a few yards across from the restaurant windows and other rooms, meaning that we were overlooked. We are hoping that Thomas Cook review the use of this hotel.
