“Absolutely Perfect”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 5 September 2009

We have just returned from our week's holiday in Sorrento, where we stayed at The Michelangelo Hotel, which we selected after reading other reviews and we were not disappointed.
This hotel is in the perfect location, just a short walk, approx 5/10 mins, from the main square and the harbour, although close to the railway station we were not disturbed by the local trains.
The hotel is excellent, quiet, superb food, very clean, helpful staff, especially Peppe the barman, who is a delightful and special person, his local knowledge on the food and places of interest around Sorrrento are second to none.
During our stay we visited Pompeii, where we would recommend a guide as they are very informative, Mount Vesuvius (after getting off the bus there is quite a walk to the top, but worth it), Capri and the Amalfi Coast, all of which were worth visiting.

Location is in the heart of Sorrento. It is quiet, excellent food and very good helpful staff.
Close to train station so you can make your own way around area.
Thoroughly recommend.

I recently spent two weeks at the hotel with my 16 year old son. It is beautifully decorated, spotlessly clean and located in the perfect position. We had a room facing the front of the hotel and found it delightful. We travelled a lot but on the days we spent in the town, we found the pool and terrace ideal for 'chilling'. The staff, in particular the restaurant staff, were most helpful and cheery. Guiseppi (forgive the spelling) the barman was a card! Great company. When I return, I will most certainly be going to the Hotel Michelangelo!

I stayed in the Michelangelo Hotel for 2 weeks in August, the hotel is in a great location within 5 min walk from the main square of Sorrento and close to every amentity in Sorrento it is a great base for your holiday. The pool is small but sufficient and the sun terrace is great for lazy days around the hotel. The one issue with the hotel that we found was the rooms that overlook the train track/station at the back of the hotel, if you are a light sleeper avoid at all cost as you can't get used to the trains. Our first 2 nights in the hotel we stayed in a room over looking the tracks and the sound of train was hard to sleep through. We did ask for a room move and our request was dealt with in day or so but if you can avoid the rooms over looking the rains. Overall its a great hotel but avoid the trains unless you want a holiday of train spotting. Finally to the bar man Guiseppe who is really friendly and great for a laugh, one of a kind in Sorrento.

This will be our 4th stay at this hotel. We like it so much for its friendliness, cleanliness, hospitality and general charm.
We arrived at Midnight 31st July/1st August after being delayed at the airport in Manchester for over 4 hours. But after checking in, taking the bags to the room and being completely drained, we went to the bar saw Giuseppe and instantly felt better with the very warm greeting that he gave us.
He always remembers us and thats a nice thing.
The following morning at breakfast was the same, the waiters came over and greeted us their way and seemed genuinely pleased to see us back.
Extra portions were given at the evening meal as always.
We spent 2 weeks here and quite a lot of cheeky bantering went on in between us and most of the staff including those chappies on the desk, especially Giovanni (Mr. Happy).
I had forgotten the memory card for the camera and Ernesto (desk) helped me out by getting one for us guite cheap. Cheaper than the uk.
Everyone is really accommodating and their only wish is for you to enjoy your time with them. Which we do, everytime!!!
We went to Amalfi on the local bus (6 euro return) but although it is a lovely drive, twisting and weaving around the bends, its also like sardines crammed into a tin as the driver will allow more and more passengers on. No health and safety here!!!!!!
So the next time we went was on the boat which cost 22 euro return (quite a bit more) but it was much better, More refreshing for a start, less packed, more relaxing and equally nice views around the coast and you get an amazing view of Positano!!!
We also went to Capri on the Paul n Shark jet which cost 27 euro return, worth every penny. After arriving at the port there were taxis offering to take you up to Capri for 20 euro but the local bus took us for 2 euro, maybe not as nice as a taxi would be but it was only for a few minutes.
Nerano is a little place with a beach, we got told about this by Giovanni (head waiter), it had a nice beach ( you had to pay ) and there was nothing much else to do there but it was a good day out at 4 euro return on the bus.
We requested a room at the back with the view of the railway (608) which we got.
Only another 49 weeks before we go again!!

No i wouldnt recommend it to any friends as I wouldnt want them to know about this little jewel I want to keep it all to myself!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

After reading the reviews about the Michelangelo, my friend and I were confident that we had made the right choice. It certainly lived up to expectations. The Michelangelo is friendly, well-located and clean.
Giuseppe the famous barman, is indeed a delight and a very special person. He is the man in the know and can not do enough for the guests.
The guys in the restaurant were great too executing the evening service with military precision, always with good humour and a winning smile.
We decided to do some of the trips on our own - Pompeii and Herulaneum are a train ride away and the travel tickets are dirt cheap. The Amalfi coast is truly breathtaking and a bit of a white-knuckle ride too, especially with the local bus. I would definitely suggest pricing the trips locally as we found the organised ones to be very expensive.
Sorrento is a busy town, buzzing with locals and tourists alike. The shopping is excellent.
I am saving up for a return visit. A wonderful holiday.
