We booked the hotel Admiral independently for an 8 day stay from 19th April 2011. We booked the transfer advertised on the website.

We booked a see view room – well worth the extra money the view is spectacular! The room and the public areas are spotlessly clean and we had clean towels and bed linen daily. Breakfast was adequate – coffee, bread and jams, cold meat and cheese and scrambled eggs on most days.

We originally booked for half board. On the first evening we were the only people in the dining room! The food was pleasant and the service good. However we elected to go bed and breakfast from then on. The restaurants in Sorrento and plentiful, very good and very expensive! If you want to keep the cost of your holiday down, do half board, but you are missing out.

The staff at the hotel were generally very helpful, there were two receptionists, one pretty girl with braces on her teeth who was unfailingly helpful and friendly. There was another one…….

A note about the transfers:

On arrival at Naples airport there was no car. I had to call the hotel and was kept on hold for some time and then told that the car was stuck in traffic and would be an hour – it’s an hour’s drive from Naples to Sorrento. We waited an hour and 40 minutes and after further phone calls and general confusion – he was waiting at Arrivals- we got in the Mercedes. We were then driven in the style of Fernando Alonso to Sorrento. It was later admitted that they had lost our booking and we were not charged for that leg of the journey. We were also given a bottle of wine.

On our return journey, my husband and I waited in the hotel reception area for our car, which was due at 17.30. At 17.40 my husband asked the receptionist (the “other” one) where our car was. She calmly told us it was waiting in the square as it couldn’t drive up to the hotel. The driver didn’t come in either. She had watched us waiting for it, knowing we were in the wrong place and didn’t say a word. I got her to write her name down. We ran to the square dragging our cases to watch our car pull away. Much shouting and waiving stopped him. We were again driven “Formula 1 style” to the airport.

On complaining to the hotel, in turns out that she had given us a false name. There is no “Francesca Da Rosa” working at the hotel. They refused any further compensation.

This is a pleasant hotel in a great position. Do not use the transfer service!!

The staff in the hotel could not do enough. I travelled with my 86 year old father, anything he wanted, they provided. Even on a day when the main lift was not operational they allowed us to use the staff lift. Just amazing people!. The room was spacious with a balcony and a view of Vesuvius and the small fishing village Marina Grande.

There are plenty of places to eat along the Marina, but The Trattoria Da Emilia is second to none Family run, by three generations. The food (all local produce, fresh daily, all pasta freshly made on the premises & of course the fish) is to die for. The local wine from their own vinyard is excellent. As you can imagine with a family run place the service and attention to detail isamazing all all at affordable prices. Two other places to eat along that stretch are The Three sisters Di Leva and Tony' Beach with it's Ristorante Cataldi. But for the very best Pizza's in Sorrento you have to go to the town centre to Il Giardinella. You can stand an watch as they make the pizza to take away or sit in the garden, wonderful stuff. And the cost of a basic pizza 4.50 Euros, when I say basic, this means about a twelve to fifteen inch with fresh plum tomatoes and lots of Buffalo Mozarella and fresh local basil. Mmmmmmmmm

Half board was a real bonus - The buffet night was fantastic.

Even the lady on reception Nadia will smile - but you have to ask her :)

All in all excellent!

We have recently returned from a holiday at the Admiral, in Sorrento, it is the 2nd time we have been there what a lovely hotel, fantastic views, lovely rooms very clean & spacious we never heard any noise we had a beautifull seaview room.
We do NOT agreee with the person who complained about the food it was excellent, the gala night & buffet night you would not get better in a 5* hotel believe me we have stayed in many hotels in Sorrento this has been the best Gala night we have had also the best buffet. The Manager & his staff are very pleasant people nothing is to much trouble for them. One little niggle from me, the music was always to loud we all had to talk to each other very loudly to hear each other.
Jamie the rep was very good & helpfull always , we all enjoyed the quiz night Jamie,. the airport request
was hysterical i wish i could tell you Haha.
All in all a wonderfull holiday at the Admiral, we hope to visit yet again but loose a lot of weight before we go because the food is so delicious.
Thank you manager & staff for making it such a lovely 2wks at the Admiral.

we stayed at this hotel and renewed our vows at the san francesco cloisters while we were there, Thomsons were first class everything went to plan nothing was too much trouble they even managed to arrange our origional 1st dance music to be played by the violinist during our ceremony!!!. The Hotel staff and food was excellent the buffet dinner on the sunday was amazing I have never seen so much food and so much choice. I have read the moans about the breakfast etc but hey you are in Italy its a 3 star hotel if you want a full english go to Benidorm, we found it absolutely fine. We had room 411 on the fourth floor with the huge balcony and the noisy aircon on the roof but it didn't bother us although our neighbours complained about it....they should have drunk more ha ha.
