“The Manager Giuseppe De Gennaro is a legend...”
Reviewed 12 December 2011

My fiancé and I stayed at the Admiral Hotel and it was an amazing place. Great location, amazing ocean views of Mount Vesuvius, easy access to Pompeii, easy transfers to the airport, regular trips along the Amalfi Drive and the coffee was good too. The manager Giuseppe De Gennaro was a great manager and made our stay very comfortable and he is a real "people's person". We will definitely go back there again in a few years time.

We stayed here in late August for 10 nights. We had read mixed reviews but more good than bad so decided to book.It was our fist time to Sorrento & my parents first time to Italy. We were pleasantly suprised. When we arrived in Marina Grande the Thomson rep that travelled from the airport with us called the hotel & a porter came & picked up our luggage which was good because it was very hot to be pulling cases!
The staff are very friendly & we had asked for adjoining rooms which we got.We paid for a sea vie which is a must. The rooms were very clean & the maid came in on a daily basis & tidied up.The sheets were changed every other day & towels every day if you wanted them to be.
Yes the outside did look a bit tired but it was clean & tidy inside & out.
The food was excellent.Breakfast was varied & plentiful. Evening meal was a 3 course meal, always hot & we never had a disapointing meal. The menu was never the same for the 10 days we were there.Gala & buffet night are really good, the mainchf comes out to say intorduce hiself & on buffet night he carves the meat. The staff are hard working & are always there if you need them.Don't be put off by the Maitre'd he is a really nice man & will have a laugh he just likes his restaurant to run well, 1 review said that they saw the staff covering tea stains with mugs i never saw this once & was shocked because the Maitre'd liked the cutlery straight & in order so i can't see how he would have let that happen.
The swimming pool is nice & always clean. It is mostly covered by balconies but it was so hot this wasn't a problem. The only thing i would say is that sun loungers would be better than the chairs they have, they are okay but it is nice to lay down but the deck was lovely to sit on although the sun does dissappear by 3.15pm but it's still warm & i never wore a sleeves for the whole holiday!! The snack bar is also very good & the barmen are really nice & friendly.
Our rep Mark was really nice & was in the hotel alot.He does a walk of Sorrento which we did,it's definitley worth it because you get your bearings & it's free!! He also did a quiz night which was really good.
If you are going to eat in one of the restaurants in Marina Grande try Di leva it's run by sisters & the fish & chips is to die for!!
We used to catch the bus into town most nights, the walk gets a bit too much if youv'e done it during the day(depending on how fit you are) we always walked back though! In town we ate in La fenice which is overpriced & overated. If you do the Sorrento walk mark will take you here don't be fooled. We also ate in La Favorita which is like a massive garden, lovely food but lots of bugs flying around because of the plants & trees but we would eat here again. For a drink go to the English Inn we drank here most nights,Luigi is soooooo funny & Raphaelle is a really nice man & also likes a giggle.
.We also did Pompeii & Herculanium using the local train,it's cheaper than the Thomson trips & we liked the fact we could leave when we wanted because it was so hot.
We also hired a car & drove the Amalfi drive.Only do this if you are very brave, when we took our car back there was a couple who only had their car for 2 hours because they couldn't handle the stress, luckily my partner is an excellent driver but you have to have eyes everywhere. We also climbed Mount Vesuvius it was hard going but the view is definitley worth it.
We will definitley go back to Sorrento & stay at the Hotel Admiral it's a hidden gem.

Room Tip: book a oom with a full sea view. It is a must.

Visited the Admiral for the second time and the Grande Marina is a hidden gem. It's a simple hotel but we found the staff excellent and friendly and you could not ask for a better location. It's only about a 10 minute walk in to Sorrento main square although it is up a quite a few stairs but as long as you are happy to walk its not a problem. The gala night on the decking and the fireworks display in the Marina were terrific nights and I would go back here in a heartbeat. The restaurant next door the Delphino I think has great food.

The location of this hotel is amazing, poking out into the sea. The view is something else, so beautiful, especially when the sun goes down. It is quite a trek into the centre of Sorrento (but for me this is all the better). You cannot see the sea from the centre but we saw it from our room here. The hotel is a bit dated, but not in any way that matters. I would highly recommend staying here to anyone. The train is not the most pleasant way to get about but it is great as it's cheap and reliable. We splashed out and hired a boat from the harbour and what an absolutely amazing day that was!! If you can afford it, do it, it is worth every penny.

Room Tip: We didn't know it, but our side room still gave us an amazing view.. lucky I suppose!

We choose this hotel for our first hoilday to Italy, mostly based on the reviews on Tripadviser. The hotel, which has fantastic views across the Bay of Naples to Vasuvius, is positioned on the Marina Grande located a steep but pleasant 5 to10 minutes walk down the cliff from Sorrento town - our luggage was taken to the hotel from the drop off point, but it is necessary to walk along the marina to the hotel - no good if you are wearing stilletos! The hotel is simple but full of charm run by fantastic staff who are eager to please, efficient and helpful. The rooms immaculately clean, food was good. We went to Pompei (which was a bit disappointing as we had expected to see life 'captured as the ash fell' with at least one body in situ in a designated house - there were lots of artefacts just piled in grille-fronted stores!) Herculaneum was better. Capri was a good trip with the boat ride around the bay at 15 euros extra a must - good value and you still saw some amazing grottos without paying 25 euros to see the Blue grotto only Lovely holiday - would go back again and again.

Room Tip: Ask for a south facing room if you haven't paid extra for a sea view - you still have a view of...

Absolutely beautiful hotel. Breathtaking views of the bay, Naples, and Vesuvius... you won't find another hotel in Sorrento which is THAT close to the water! A very easy bus/cab ride up to the city center, but if you prefer to be in the city center than this might not be the place for you. However, this wasn't our first time in Sorrento, and we had always stayed up in the city on our prior visits, and decided to try something new this time around, away from the hustle and bustle and closer to the water. I must say staying in Hotel Admiral was an excellent decision, because we actually got to relax on this trip! The hotel has an excellent deck (complete with tables and lounge chairs), a lovely place from which to admire the sunset while sipping a cocktail from the bar. The hotel is also 2 minutes away from some of the most lovely pier-beaches and restaurants. The staff is friendly and helpful, the room was clean and quiet, the AC was a blessing, and the breakfast was great! I recommend this place to everyone.
Tip: if you are taking a cab to/from the train station, have the hotel staff reserve the cab for you. It's cheaper that way!

Room Tip: Pay the extra amount and get a sea-front room, complete with private balcony!!!!!

just returned from sorrento, this was our first time to italy so didnt know what to expect, our first impressions of the admiral was its nice position overlooking the marina grande, we paid extra for a sea view and was well worth ,it our balcony on the top floor was huge and the view of naples bay and vesuvius was amazing. the whole of the staff at the hotel were very good. the food was plentyfull with good choices. we did a few trips with thomsons rome in a day v.good, as was thge amalfi drive, but the pompei and heraclium was amazing a must do!. mark our thomson rep was really good too all in all a good trip, i think the only down side was its location a good 15 min walk up into the centre,

Room Tip: pay the extra for a sea view ( 4th floor the best )
