This lovely little hotel is filled with a friendly staff, adorable rooms and a deck with a pool. I advise you get a room with a balcony, as it feels like you are on a cruise and worth every penny.
The walk to the town area is filled with long steps, so please be advised of this fact. However, if this isn't an issue, this hotel is tucked away nicely by the water. Be warned, it can be noisy. We had to use our earplugs every night. That was really the only negative. As mentioned, the rooms were nice and clean. The staff was very friendly. the view was stunning. I highly recommend this hotel.

I researched this place and hotel for so long before i went, i felt i knew everything about it. However when i arrived i fell in love, not just with Italy but "Marina Grande" and the Admiral Hotel" We arrived on a terrible rainy day and we were greeted into the hotel with a beer and a meal, both very nice. We were given our room keys and we got room 405. The room was lovely and clean and white . Our balcony was the biggest i have ever seen and across the bay was Mount Vesuvius ! What more could you want? We had waiter service every night with three course meals and a buffet breakfast , bacon, scrambled eggs and the usual continental, again everyone was really friendly. The reviews say it is a little tired but what do they want ? It is right over the sea with the best location in Sorrento, of course it needs paint, the sea takes care of that. We visited Delfinos restaurant while we there as the sun leaves the Admiral about 2pm but Delfinos allow you to use the sunbeds at the back of the decking till 5 ish.Going up to Sorrento is steepish but lovely , it is not a problem like suggested in previous reviews ,i suffer from asthma and i was worried about this. When you reach the top it is full of lovely streets to explore and cafe bars to have a meal and a drink. The shops are open late and the whole atmosphere is brilliant if not a little loud at times off the numerous scooters. However when you go back down to Marina Grande it is like going back home for some peace and quiet . The Marina has a few restaurants and they all looked lovely as well. We did a couple of trips with thompsons and enjoyed the Herculanuem one but Capri was too busy by far and they were herding people on and off ferries like sheep. Anacapri though was well worth the "mamma mia" drive to the top.
All in all i had a fantastic holiday and the Marina Grande ,Hotel Admiral were the ones that made it so special. Dont miss out on this experience , go and see for yourself.

Room Tip: Sea view is a must

We know central Sorrento well and chose this hotel because of its superb location in the Grande Marina, a small working fishing village about a 15 minute uphill walk into Sorrento, so not an hotel for couch potatoes, but there is a regular bus! We don't normally book 3* accommodation for our main holiday but If you want an hotel with fantastic, unprecedented views out to sea and Vesuvius and surrounded by lovely fish *restaurants, this is definately the right choice (mind you, there is only one hotel!). Although the hotel is looking a little tired, the food was very good and our room was kept spotless throughout our stay and it was very good value for money. We were told by reception that the hotel is being refurbished this winter to attain a 4* rating, but I noticed the rates for next Sep 13' (Thomson online) are cheaper at the moment than we paid for Sep 12', so book now but do pay extra for a sea view room. We would recommend room 403 which was on top floor; the room was a very good size with a huge balcony and fantastic views. We can't wait to go back. *Recommended local restaurants: Taverna Azzurra, Da Emillia and Da Cataldo; avoid the 5 Da Leva Sister restaurant.

Room Tip: Room 403 was on top floor; the room was a very good size with a huge balcony and fantastic views.

We spent a week here at end of August. What a fabulous place, admittedly the hotel was a bit tired but was more than compensated for by the fantastic view we had and the lovely staff, especially Francesco who was very helpful and always had a smile. Room very clean, food very good, absolutely nothing to complain about. Would thoroughly recommend. We went to Delfinos for lunch, lovely meal. Also recommend The Wonderful Sea, a small bar in Marina Grande, run by a lovely couple and we spent many a happy evening there. Will definitely go again.

Room Tip: Pay extra for full sea view, fabulous!

We spent a week in September at the Admiral The staff were great and very funny at times The food was excellent for a three star hotel OK it is a little tired but the location is just perfect and we felt we got a great holiday for the money .Andreas who served in the bar and restaraunt was truly a friend by the second day and the young man on reception was very helpful with directions and his english put my Italian to shame. Lovely time and will go again.

Just returned from yet another two week stay at the Admiral. My friends tell me how boring it must be to holiday in the same place all the time. This was our fifth visit to Sorrento, and our 4th stay at the Admiral.
Things weren't so perfect as they had been on our previous vists. Our full sea view room turned out to be only a partial one. But within two days we were moved to another room, much more to our liking. If you do stay at the Admiral, then you really should pay the extra for a sea view room. The views are fantastic and worth paying the extra for. You may be very lucky and not pay for one, and still get it. But if you don't pay for one, then you really have no grounds to complain.
I would always choose, and pay for, a sea view room.
We were pleased to see a lot of the friendly staff we have come to know, were still working there.
Andreas the very pleasant barman was still there. He welcomed us with a cuddle. Nadia was still there and efficient as ever. Some people see her efficiency as not too friendly. But trust me, she is very friendly and she does smile. In fact she has a lovely smile.

We were very happy to be reunited with our friends Malcolm and Josie whom we met there last year. It was so good to see them again. Malcolm has health issues which may prevent him returning next year. But we live in hope that all will be well and we can all be reunited next year.
Never say never. That's my motto.

I have to say the weather wasn't so perfect for the first 3 or 4 days. But that has nothing to do with the Admiral. It's just the luck of the draw. We had torrential rain and thunderstorms. Fantastic thunderstorms. My partner had been checking the weather before we went, and he was afraid to tell me of the weather reports. One day we went swimming. We were just in the pool when the skies grey dark and the rain started. The last torrential rain we had. But we just kept swimming. Well we were wet anyway. We couldn't get any wetter.

We ate out a lot in Marina Grande. The resturants are excellent. And as you would expect in a fishing port, the seafood was brilliant. I think we have eaten in every resturant apart from one. Guess we'll just have to go back next year and resolve that problem.
We did no trips this year having done them all in previous years. But we have decided if we do go back next year, we would like to do the Monte Cassino trip again. That was one of our favourites.
The didning room staff were excellent as always. The food was great, and they work so hard to get everything just right. The Gala nights and buffet nights are a nice touch, and if the weather is good, they have them out on the terrace.

Francesca is very helpful if you have any problems and his english is very good. I just wish my Italian was better.
If you've still to go, have a great time. You can't go wrong with the Admiral or Marina Grande.

Room Tip: Pay the extra for a sea view room.

We spent 2 weeks in September for our Pearl anniversary. The room was basic but clean however the view was to die for. The hotel is tired but clean. The staff sometimes reminded us of Fawlty Towers (funny) and the food okay. We had a great time even when two couples in the rooms either side of us were very noisy the reception staff sorted it out .

Room Tip: Pay extra for sea view to front facing Vesuvious.
