4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 10 July 2010

that is how welome we felt at this lovely hotel i was there in june 2010 with my adult family of 5 - all the staff were a delight( and to me they called me mamma (it made me feel italian... it was nice)
the food /location/.views were wonderful!!
so much to see and do....a week was not long enough
we hired a boat (at marina grand) for 800 euros and went to capri /positano/amalfi .. worth every penny ,the amalfi coast was beautiful to view by boat.
a big thank you to the manager of hotel admiral , he gave us 3 rooms together and was waiting to greet us when we arrived, late in the day .... .. you made a good holiday wonderful ...and not forgetting the other staff who seemed very happy working at hotel admiral.
i have stayed in many hotels all over the world ... but have to say they did not feel like home as this one does!!!!!
I will visit this hotel again just love it !!!!
thank you all joan

We stayed at the Hotel Admiral for three nights B&B from the 3rd July 2010. This was our fourth visit to Sorrento and our first visit to the Hotel Admiral. When reviewing this hotel it is important to assess it in line with its star classification and cost.

The Hotel is located in the Marina Grande, this is an active fishing village, has some restaurants and two beaches. It is about a 10 minute walk up hill to the main centre of Sorrento and is probably not the most suitable for people with mobility difficulties. However, there is a bus that goes to the centre every 3o minutes or so for €2.40 for a daily travel card. There are a couple of shops where you can buy cold drinks and snacks. On the main steps out of the Marina there is a family run veg store with a cold fridge where you can buy cold drinks, we found this to be the same price as the main square and the people were lovely. Every time we stay in Sorrento we tend to eat in the Taverna Azzurra, this is a sea food restaurant, it does great seafood, pasta and is very reasonable with great service. There are lots of stray cats around the area, being a cat lover I did end up feeding them left over fish and some cat food so probably to the locals appeared a mad cat lady but, it’s so sad seeing how skinny they are!!!

We stayed in room 219, this was a standard room with a balcony. The room overlooked a building approximately 5 metres away and to the left there was a view of the sea. The room was very light. The room was a fair size, it had two twin beds, a TV, dressing table, wardrobes and very good air con. The bathroom was a good size, too, the shower was very powerful and there was plenty of hot water on the downsize the hair dryer was not very good at all and was virtually no aid to drying my hair, definitely take your travel one with you. On the down size the room could be a little noisy first thing in the morning when breakfast was being prepared. If there was a fridge in the room this would be very useful.

There is a small pool and solarium. The pool is sea water and partly based in the shade. The solarium did get busy and there were a couple of guests reserving their loungers at 07:30 despite the pool not opening until 09:00. The pool area felt a little crowded at the beginning of the day but, by noon most of the people gradually left leaving plenty of room. The pool bar was very reasonable for drinks. The food looked nice however, we did not order any so cannot pass judgement.

The breakfast in mainly continental also with a small selection of hot food. The variety of food available is very good. There is fruit juice, water, Tea and Coffee available. A disappointing point is there are plastic cups for fruit juice / water and no glasses. The hotel concierge were mainly welcoming and helpful with the exception of Nadia who I did not see smile once during our stay. The hotel terrace and pool size has fantastic views of the bay of Naples and I’m sure the rooms at the front of the hotel have great views. For a 3 star hotel this ticks most of the boxes and if you arrive with the right mind set you will have a memorable holiday in the heart of Sorrento.

Finally, would I stay here again? Yes. Would I actively plan to stay again? Probably not. Would I mind staying again? No. Would I recommend to my family and friends? Yes, however I would pass the above comments onto them.

We have just returned from a two week stay at Hotel Admiral located in Marina Grande, and could not have chosen a better resort. We were celebrating my 50th birthday so wanted things to be special. Our room was on the 4th floor and had a wonderful view over the bay. The cleanliness of the rooms was really good and I would like to send a special thank you to the ladies who cleaned our room everyday. All the staff were very helpful and friendly. We stayed on half board and the food was excellent, although we did eat out on the Buffet and Gala nights. It took me 7 months to lose nearly a stone - two weeks on holiday it soon went back on !! Marina Grande is a wonderful location and the locals were very friendly and helpful. Final thanks to Jamie at Thomsons, although we did not go on the Thomsons excursions he was always very helpful and would always stop for a chat if you bumped into him in Sorrento. I would certainly return to the Admiral and would most definitely recommend it. Thank you all very much x

We have just returned from 2 weeks in Sorrento staying at the Admiral. Even though we arrived quite late, all the staff were very friendly and helpful, there was a complimentary chilled bottle of fizz in the room which was most unexpected, but what a lovely touch. The room was lovely and clean and airey with the added bonus of air con!

I had raved about the views from the rooms that were advertised in the brochure and we were not disappointed, the panoramic views are to die for. We had a welcome brochure in the room with bus, train and boat timetables in English and if you still found this difficult to get to grips with - which we did - the reception staff wrote out which bus to catch at what time and where from and to.

All the staff were friendly, helpful and funny whilst being so proffesional. Our room was kept so clean and tidy which is no mean feat. Our balcony was lovely but we paid extra for a sea view, which I am so glad I did and would advise anyone to do also.

We knew that this was a 3 star hotel so we weren't expecting too much from the food but the quality and service we received at meal times was second to none. All the staff were very personable and funny and stayed at your table patiently whilst we chose from the menu or wine list . They spoke very good English compared to our attempts at Italian!

The hotel was in a beautiful location in the Marine Grande and within walking distance was Sorrento town - up some steps, which on the first day did seem a long way but in the 2 weeks we never caught the bus - and it did get easier! Sorrento was very beautiful and we loved it.

We can't fault any point of this holiday and would like to thank Jamie our rep who was around frequently to help with local questions of where to eat or where to avoid or how to get to somewhere and his walkabout on the first day was great fun. We would like to thank every member of staff, the cleaners that made our room up every day, reception, managers, waiters and bar staff particularly Andreas and Guisseppe (apparently there are five working there). We loved it so much and it is our first holiday that we have said we definately want to go back - maybe next year! Loved It!

This hotel is well situated with a beautiful view of the bay with Vesuvius in the distance. It is at the end of a road which means it is quiet (no sounds of Vespas). The room was clean and adeqautely furnished with good air conditioning. The balcony was facing the bay with more than a limited view of the sea. The staff were excellent in every way and the food was good and authentic Italian (I don't eat meat but there was plenty for me to choose from). The salt-water pool is small but adequate for dipping and there were always plenty of sunchairs for lounging on the deck which was facing the sea. The hotel is at one end of the little fishing village of Marina Grande which has some excellent restaurants (Il Delfino was suberb but don't go to Di Levi as the food was vile) and Sorrento town was not far to walk to (uphill but I managed it and I'm not very fit). If you want a quiet, peaceful holiday this is the place for you.

What a fantastic hotel, it may be 3 star but believe me the staff and the food are 5 star. I accept that some people may have been disappointed with there rooms but we were lucky, we paid the extra for a sea view and it was well worth it. We had a room on the 3rd floor with a private balcony and a fantastic view of vesuvius and the Marina Grande. Big hello to the rep Jamie who is always on hand should you need him, and guiseppe and andreas also. We will be back as soon as we can.

We followed the directions on the hotels website for arriving at the hotel, thinking it was within walking distance. It is not. And lugging heaving suitcases 40 minutes across town is not my idea of fun. The hotel website should recommend taking public transporation there. However when we arrived, the manager could sense I was unhappy and sent a complimentary bottle of champagne to our room. After the bottle and tanning on the deck on the water with a beautiful view of Mount Vesuvius, I was happy. The wait staff was very nice, and breakfast was good. But it is inconveniently located, and only 2 buses are available per hour to the city center, which do not really stop at the city center, so be prepared to walk. Cab rides are an expensive 15euros, for a 5 minute ride. But this hotel does have the luxury of a pool and relaxation and a nice balcony you would otherwise not get from town.
