“Wonderful Italian Get Away”
Reviewed 1 June 2012

We stayed in a triple room - Room 10 - which had a beautiful view of the Bay of Naples, Mount Vesuvias and the hillside. The room was spotless and the entire staff was welcoming. Being that this hotel is tucked away on the hillside above the town of Sorrento, it was a location that we loved. We were able to enjoy the true beauty of the Amalfi Coast, while being able to walk a short distance into the center of town in less and 15 minutes through a lighted path down from the hotel. The inn-keeper Maria was personable as well as helpful and was clearly interested in making sure her guests were taken care of. The staff, no matter the time of day, was friendly and accommodating. I booked this hotel at the recommendation of the various reviews on tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. We traveled ourselves through Italy and Hotel LaBadia had plenty of space to park our car which was a real plus. If you stay in the town of Sorrento, parking may be difficult. Also as a hint, if you are traveling by car to Hotel LaBadia, use a GPS and google the hotel for the correct desination location. This will bring you directly to their doorstep!

Sorrento was one of the highlights of our trip and Maria and her staff certainly were a part of that experience. We will definitely stay here again the next time we visit Sorrento.

Room Tip: Room 10 has a beautiful view of Mount Vesuvias and the Bay of Naples.

My wife and I have just returned from a 1 week half board holiday at the La Badia hotel, it was fantastic.
Like many before us we booked the break from the Sunday Times and never expected it to be as good as it was.
The staff were fantastic as were the meals and the setting could not have been better.
Our room, number 15, was to a very good standard, comfortable beds and a spotless bathroom ours had a spa bath and shower over the bath with views directly over Mount Vesuvius and the bay of Sorrento with distant views of the bay of Naples.
All in all staying at the La Badia was a truly Italian experience and one which we would do again.
How anybody can really fault this hotel really beats me.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms have a sea view and if you want one just ask when booking.

MrBestest thought we would enjoy La Badia, and we certainly did. A lovely room and bathroom, and a terrace with a view of the bay and the sunsets. If you think you'll be spending time pottering in your room it's worth paying the extra for that view, especially if it's as sunny as it was for us.
The gardens are extensive with lots of seats among the flowers, so you can sit on the swing and watch the boats in the bay or take your book into the shade of the olive trees.
The hotel atmosphere is restful, calm and obliging. They will work round diet difficulties over the menu, readily offering alternatives, and can supply maps, timetables and suggestions to help you plan your day. They are really nice people! And your home during your stay is elegant and relaxing, and the meals were something to look forward to. We enjoyed them all, especially the pasta (must try some of the ideas out now we are back home, though I am not going to make my own pasta!)
Be under no illusions, however. You are on a walking holiday there. You walk down to Sorrento (there is a bus, 1euro for the red bus) and to the station, and you walk all round Pompeii (we had to go twice, there's so much to see. Entry free if you are an EU citizen and over 65) and Herculaneum, up on Monte Faito (cable car from Castellammare), down to the ruined Roman villa at Punta del Capo etc etc. And then there's the walk back up - not so bad really, as it's a nicely graded path and it counteracts the pasta and ice creams!
All in all an excellent quiet hotel in Sorrento. Not a place for the gold lame party frock and tiara, nor the backless, frontless minidress. Smart casual, no pressure. We enjoyed ourselves there enormously and would go back like a shot.

Room Tip: Get a view of the bay

We booked individually, because of the warm recommendation of a very reliable guidebook.

This charming hotel is surronded by a small park with olive trees, unlike most of the other hotels in the area away from the traffic, but still in walking distance to Sorrento. We had a room with breathtaking view over Sorrento, the gulf, the Vesuvio, Naples and the isles. And that not only from the - private terracce - but also out of the bathroom.

Our room was quite large, the interior and especially the bathroom was a bit old-fashioned, but absolutely clean and well cared for. Staff was helpfull and there is a relaxed and peacefull atmosphere all over. I cannot comment on the food as we prefer to dine out.

I would absolutely recommended La Badia if you do not expect plush luxury and perfection. But in this case Italy is not for you anyway.

This hotel is a perfect match for this beautifull part of the world. We loved it.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the ground floor. We had number 5.

Hard to find...even with a GPS as the property is off-road through an olive grove & not well signposted BUT once you are there, the views are fantastic, the facilities (pool, terraces etc) very good.
The location - out of town/above Sorrento - is an easy 20minute walk DOWN to town - but a hard 45+minutes back up! Breakfast is adequate/standard & they try and have you commit to dinner on site also in the morning which I found a little strange. We only had one dinner (our first night) and it was ok, but not tempted to do more.
The reception staff were helpful & had plenty of tourist information, ferry timetables etc on hand.
The rooms are all different....we had two, one on the ground floor with a little terrace & the most 'interesting' layout & tiles in the bathroom. The other room was on the top foor with a round window & a small - more updated bathroom. The lift is ancient....only use for luggage. Stairs are faster. The pool was very welcome & the sunsets from there were beautiful. Overall an experience we all enjoyed.

Room Tip: Ask to see available rooms in category you book as they are all different.

We chose Hotel la Badia as our base on a Riviera Travel week long tour of the area. We knew we would have a packed itinerary which would leave us little time in the hotel. We paid for, and were given, a room with a magnificent view across the Bay of Naples, flanked by the local hills and opposite Vesuvius. It was everchanging and a delight to wake up to in the morning and to look at, with illuminated cruise ships nearby, in the evening. The room was spotless and well looked after every day. It was a bit smaller than we are used to (many of them were monks' cells from when it was an abbey) but it did not detract from the key issues of sleeping and showering (etc) in the good sized bathroom (without a bath, which we seldom use even at home). The staff were all friendly, helpful and entertaining, especially Antonio, the maitre d', and his restaurant staff. The food was generally good and plentiful and the staff were happy to offer alternatives on the occasion when some of the group did not enjoy their choice. Vegetarian and wheat/gluten free options were available at every meal without fuss. Short and acceptable wine list and a bar for post-prandial drinks (only limoncello for us, but it was so good!), as well as tea and coffee when needed during the day. I would happily return to la Badia and recommend it.

Room Tip: Sea view is worth paying for

Stayed at the La Badia, Lovely cosy hotel, the most marvelous view from our terrace across
Naples bay To the Vasuvius volcano, just breath tacking. good position for reaching Sorrentto by way of zig zag path.but far enough from the madding crowd.
I would recommend the La Badia everytime.

Room Tip: Choose room No 7 its on the ground floor, but in an elavated position with the added sun terrace.
