I have just returned from a weeks holiday travelling with Riviera Travel after choosing the hotel from reviews on Trip Advisor. It is a beautiful building in a stunning location. My friend and I had 'Camelia' after emailing Maria at the hotel and asking for a large room with balcony (we had already paid for a sea view). The room was large, looked recently decorated with a lovely big modern bathroom, a balcony and a view over the bay. There was air conditioning and extra blankets if required. Perfect! The room was kept spotless with clean towels every day. Pool towels could be hired for one euro, but kept for more than one day.
We really enjoyed the food, you were given choices to make at breakfast time, the Gala night was brilliant, all the staff were helpful and charming, bar and lunch prices were very reasonable and unused wine was stored for the following evening. Meals were taken on the terrace with sunset views over the bay.
The hotel, converted monastery, is located on the hill in an olive grove with a lovely swimming pool to one side. The pool and pool area were also kept spotless and there was plenty of sunbeds. There are also sitting areas in the shade at the side of the hotel.
Sorrento is downhill approximately ten minutes to the main street, yes it is uphill coming back but not really a steep climb and takes about twenty minutes. It is well lit so no problems returning in the evening.
Although the review is on the Hotel I would like to mention the fantastic tour we had with Riviera Travel. Every day was planned to perfection allowing for time for a swim at the end of the evening. Getting up and getting on a coach and being taken to Naples, Capri, Herculaneum, Pompeii, Amalfi and Ravello was fantastic. Diana our tour guide was excellent and we both came home unable to think of one negative thing to say about the hotel or the tour. Doesn't get better than that!!

Room Tip: email Maria at the hotel, she told us she will always try and meet requests if she knows what is wan...

This hotel is just outskirts of Sorrento up high on the cliff with an easy (on the way down!) walk to the old town of Sorrento. THe staff are extremely helpful nothing is too much trouble, the food was great in the hotel and very reasonable prices. The pool is lovely with plenty of sunbeds. The view over the bay from our room was to die for.
Our advice is to get the train from Naples to Sorrento as driving is a total nightmare train fares reasonalbe with a half hourly service.

I stayed at La Badia only last week (2 to 9 June) and it was fabulous. I had a smallish attic room which I thought was charming with the oval shaped shuttered window and pretty decor. I travelled with a friend and we had adjoining separate rooms, I think we would have struggled to share one of these rooms as there was limited storage space, however it was perfect for just me! There are bigger rooms and rooms with balconies but I was more than happy with my top floor room.
There have been comments about the cotton towels, yes they are not like our towels back home but they are perfectly adequate and do the job, also they are changed daily and the bed sheets are changed also in the week.
The food was pretty good especially the pasta dishes and the fish, the breakfast food was typical Continental choice of cheese, meat, boiled eggs, cake, yogurt, cereals, fruit, not what we have at home maybe but then we are not AT home are we! We are in Italy!
The Hotel is very prettily set with flowers in abundance both outside and on the terraces and in the inner courtyard. The staff are helpful and friendly.
The pool area is a delight, the pool is not large but it was not at all busy when we stayed. Loads of sunbeds and no-one fighting over them.

I would certainly recommend this hotel and everyone in our party was very happy with it.

Room Tip: Rooms on the top floor are on the small side with limited cupboard/drawer space, however they have t...

Converted monastery with lots of character & charm. Some rooms have stunning sea views, but beware of the rooms on the top floor which have only small round windows that you have to bend right down to see out. Ask for a sea view & balcony to get the better rooms. Food pretty good & staff helpful, the place could do with a bit of TLC- the decor is a little tired & bathrooms not very modern. Walking distance of the town-about 10mins but steep climb on the return.

Like a lot of the other reviewers we spent a week at the La Badia Hotel booked through Riviera Travel. I am very pleased we chose this hotel (partly based on Tripadvisor reviews) which fully came up to expectations.

We stayed in room 13 which was quite roomy and contained three single beds (two of them pushed together like a double). From what we saw all the rooms were different. Our room had a partially obscured view of the beautiful hillsides that surround the hotel and were next door to a very pleasant veranda with comfortable seats and great views of Sorrento.

The bathroom contained a sink, toilet, bidet and shower cubicle. The cubicle was not very roomy so if you are a large person you might find it a bit tight. The bathroom also contained a hair dryer and the usual supply of soap, shower gel towels etc.
The room itself was kept spotlessly clean throughout our stay so there are no complaints on that score.

The hotel is run by a mother and her two daughters who all speak English and are extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel only has 40 rooms so there is a nice personal atmosphere to it. It is an old monastery and has been beautifully restored to a hotel.

We were staying as half board so the breakfast and evening meal were supplied. The breakfast consisted of the usual continental style of bread, croissants, ham, cheese, fruit, cereal and boiled eggs. The evening meals consisted of three starter and main course choices, which needed to be ordered at breakfast. The food was OK but not outstanding and consisted of authentic Italian choices (several pasta dishes, meat and vegetarian dishes). The head waiter Antonio was very friendly and helpful.

There were ample places in the hotel to sit in the sun or shade and were never overcrowded. The small pool was never overcrowded and was great for a dip after a hard day visiting the sights. The use of a towel for the pool was charged at 2 Euros (you only needed to pay this once if you retain the towel).

The hotel itself is situated high up on the hillside about three quarters of a mile from Sorrento. There is a small path at the back of the hotel which makes for a pleasant walk into the town. It’s a bit tougher on the way back as it is quite steep. The hotel is situated in the middle of an olive grove and has very pleasant garden with seats and hammocks to use (parts of the garden were a little overgrown and could have done with the grass cutting).

Over all I am very pleased we stayed at this hotel and would recommend it. Review rating of 4 because of the food.

Room Tip: Since all rooms are different you need to check with hotel if you require special facilities

We stayed in a triple room - Room 10 - which had a beautiful view of the Bay of Naples, Mount Vesuvias and the hillside. The room was spotless and the entire staff was welcoming. Being that this hotel is tucked away on the hillside above the town of Sorrento, it was a location that we loved. We were able to enjoy the true beauty of the Amalfi Coast, while being able to walk a short distance into the center of town in less and 15 minutes through a lighted path down from the hotel. The inn-keeper Maria was personable as well as helpful and was clearly interested in making sure her guests were taken care of. The staff, no matter the time of day, was friendly and accommodating. I booked this hotel at the recommendation of the various reviews on tripadvisor and we were not disappointed. We traveled ourselves through Italy and Hotel LaBadia had plenty of space to park our car which was a real plus. If you stay in the town of Sorrento, parking may be difficult. Also as a hint, if you are traveling by car to Hotel LaBadia, use a GPS and google the hotel for the correct desination location. This will bring you directly to their doorstep!

Sorrento was one of the highlights of our trip and Maria and her staff certainly were a part of that experience. We will definitely stay here again the next time we visit Sorrento.

Room Tip: Room 10 has a beautiful view of Mount Vesuvias and the Bay of Naples.

My wife and I have just returned from a 1 week half board holiday at the La Badia hotel, it was fantastic.
Like many before us we booked the break from the Sunday Times and never expected it to be as good as it was.
The staff were fantastic as were the meals and the setting could not have been better.
Our room, number 15, was to a very good standard, comfortable beds and a spotless bathroom ours had a spa bath and shower over the bath with views directly over Mount Vesuvius and the bay of Sorrento with distant views of the bay of Naples.
All in all staying at the La Badia was a truly Italian experience and one which we would do again.
How anybody can really fault this hotel really beats me.

Room Tip: Most of the rooms have a sea view and if you want one just ask when booking.
