We arrived as a party of 6 (4 adults, 2 children) on 20 May for the start of our 9 day stay. We were greeted by Maria, checked in quickly and shown to our room. We had a quadruple room with a double bed upstairs in the mezzanine (which our children quickly claimed) and my husband and I had the sofa bed downstairs. The room also had a small kitchenette which is a big plus and a good sized bathroom. The room is dark but when you open the shutters the sunlight floods in. We very often didn't open the shutters though, as it was a cool relief from the blazing sun. I read another review before this and can't believe what they've written, as our room was very clean and entirely satisfactory. Our friend's room, a standard double was also lovely and clean. The swimming pool is outstandingly clean and has the most beautiful view of the mountains. In fact the whole pool area (sunbeds, chairs, eating area) is so clean and tidy we were all really impressed. The bar down at the pool was serviced by Michael, a lovely, friendly man who made us all feel very welcome and relaxed. Breakfast is excellent. There is a very good selection to choose from; cereal, fruit, yoghurts, pastries, meats etc... and drink wise there is freshly squeezed, delicious orange juice, coffee, tea or hot chocolate (the latter being a big hit with our children). We got to meet the children of the family over the first week, which our two were delighted with, particularly our 6 year old daughter and ended up having Italian lessons from lovely little Maria (age 8). The walk into Sorrento is around 15 minutes, we didn't find this a problem and weren't surprised as we had already checked the map for its position. You DO have to be careful, as the roads are narrow and busy. Our first week was fantastic and our children had a fabulous time, unfortunately on the first day of the following week our daughter had an accident, which resulted in her spending 3 days in hospital. This family, particularly Tony, not only stepped up to the mark but went above and beyond what anyone would reasonably expect. We can not thank them enough for their kindness and hospitality for what was an incredibly difficult and stressful time for us. If other guests have found this family unfriendly, I can only say they must not have been approachable or friendly themselves. All six of us liked them very much before the accident, afterwards... I honestly can not put into words how much we appreciated them. Thank you from the bottom of our hearts. So yes, we would defintely recommend a stay at Il Roseto.
