My wife and I stayed at Il Roseto and ordinarily I would have given it a good review but the problem was this was our 4th hotel on our trip and it was a bit of a disappointment because the others hotels were amazing. Having said that this is my FAIR review.

1) The staff are extremely lovely and this is probably the main saving grace for this B&B as they were very helpful and accommodating since they had essentially converted their own home to accommodate travelers.

2) Tony knows a lot of people in town and can get you into some great restaurants. He did this for us one night and the place was absolutely amazing. Scored big brownie points for this.

3) The location isn't as good as we expected for a few main reasons and this is the main reason it didn't get a shining review. The fact it is 30 meters off the main road is good, but the problem is that to go walking anywhere you have to stroll quite a way up an extremely polluted main street to get anywhere. I am fairly sensitive to 'bad air' and was coughing a lung up on the last day. You are literally the furthest point possible from either of the 2 nearest train stations. Its only a 20 minute walk (definately not the 10 minutes others state)....but the novelty wears off quickly due to the above reason.

4) From what I could tell only 1 room had a really good view, and it wasn't ours. We were in the garden which was nice but it had a view only of the side of the house and we had hoped for more after the booking said we had 'views' and our own private verandah...which was actually very public since everyone walked past it for breakfast.

5) Breakfast was great which is typical in Italy. Cannot complain at all. Service here was also perfect.

6) DO NOT use the taxi that the owners recommend. The guy is friendly and fun - but he is a con artist and he ALWAYS overcharges you. When he picks you up the meter is always over 8 EUROS before you even get in the cab when it should be 3.6 EUROS. I have a pet hate for this sort of thing and when I confronted him he suddenly didn't speak such good English. This didn't reflect well on the B&B owners since he was a friend of theirs with exclusive taxi rights....$15 EURO for a 5 minute ($22 AUD) drive is criminal especially when you need to use a taxi at least 3-4 times during your short stay.

My advice if you feel this is the accommodation for you:

Organise your own taxis, ask for the only room with a real view and make this the first leg of your Italy visit because you get better value overall in other Italian cities. If I returned to Sorrento I would pay a little extra for fancier accommodation with better views and central location - especially if your a couple looking for romance.

Hope that helps

Room Tip: They only appeared to have one room with a good view.....get it

This place really surpassed all our expectations, easy to find from the train station and just a ten minute walk into town. Tony and the staff were really very helpful to all our needs and when we needed help, Tony even dropped my daughter off at another hotel to help us out one day. Nothing was never too much effort and we cannot fault their services, hospitality and helpfulness. I would highly recommend this B&B very clean safe and the facilities were exactly as advertised. I would use this place again!

Room Tip: We stayed in the Vesuvius room with a great veiw

Very pleased l chose to stay at II Roseto. The room was really clean and spacious with lovely garden to enjoy the fabulous breakfast and pool to come back to and relax after a day of site seeing. All the staff were very friendly and helpful.

Would definitely consider staying here again if l return to Sorrento.

This was our third visit to Il Roseto. Once again our hosts were kind and hospitable. Our room was spacious and clean with a lovely view from our verandah. Breakfast was served in the garden which was a beautiful way to start the day. Il Roseto is halfway between Sant'Agnelo and Sorrento. Don't try to walk there with luggage however if taking a taxi either organized by yourself or by the hosts make sure the driver either has a meter or gives you a price beforehand.

Room Tip: Good view from the rooms upstairs but be aware that there are stairs to climb.

We were given the Vesuvio room, which appropriately offers a stunning view of the ocean and Mount Vesuvius in the distance. We stayed for two nights and were very comfortable there. Our experience started out traumatically because we made the mistake of trying to haul our luggage from the train station. If you stay here, just say no to that idea and call for a taxi. The sidewalks are about three inches wide in places and when buses fly by and you're pinned against a stone wall, it's sheer terror. Not safe and not at all fun...We had no problem walking into town to shop luggage free.

Our room was spacious, had a lovely view and a nice patio. A big plus was the fact that outside our room door, you could close another heavy door, which blocked all extraneous noise from the street so the room was delightfully quiet during the night. To be honest, this was the only quiet hotel we stayed at in Italy. Everywhere else, we had to use sturdy ear plugs...There's a swimming pool for guest use where guests can order lunch, snacks and drinks. Breakfasts were fabulous and served under the grapevine trellis in the beautiful garden. Internet service is provided, but a little weird because you have to connect to all your social networks to get on and I wasn't sure if FB and Twitter were announcing I was in Italy, which I didn't want it to do for security reasons...

We were surprised to be asked for cash for our pool bar charges upon checking out. If we'd been told in advance, this would have been fine, but we were short on Euros and needed to save what we had for our taxi ride to Positano. Everyone seemed a bit tight and not relaxed and friendly like we experienced at most places during our two-week vacation (maybe because my husband and I were arguing when we arrived hot and freaked out after hefting our bags a mile on those stony sidewalks in the heat - LOL), but I did have one pleasant conversation with an employee or owner about his son's recent ocean swimming in Positano where we were headed. Overall, it was a very good experience and we would stay here again.

Breakfast served in lemon garden, nice pool with bar also for refreshing snack, rooms clean and pleasant personal. Relax by the pool is ensured. The area of Roseto is separated by gate, so no strangers can get in without Being accommodated here.

We recently stayed here as part of a small group tour. The room was spacious, clean and comfortable with brilliant views. Breakfast was delightful under the lemon trees. There was a good choice of food including Mariela’s home-made cake with freshly squeezed orange juice to accompany it. The pool area was lovely and we enjoyed our cocktails each evening. The whole family was extremely hospitable and made our stay a joy.
