“Its at best a "OK" Hotel”
Reviewed 9 August 2014

We stayed at this hotel for our Honeymoon and chose it for its location and reviews on staff. The best qualities of this hotel are its staff and cleanliness. The pool area is small with only 16 very close together sun loungers by the very small pool. We very rarely found a space on the sunbeds as 16 beds is not enough for 59 rooms. The hotel has a roof terrace that has fantastic view over the bay and although it has another 18 sun loungers it has no bar facilities up there. Its just a roof with 18 loungers with a shower. As I said one of the best qualities are the staff and you will not find better in terms of helpfulness. The rooms have clean towels EVERYDAY and the beds are changed every other day. The Hotel is spotless I simply did not see and dirt, dust or grim. The food is at the best OK. The breakfast is very very basic buffet. Mostly cakes and some bread and rolls for toasting, some cereal, jam, yoghurts, hard boiled eggs and now and again scrambled eggs. Coffee and tea are served to you and there is cheap fruit juice. It was easy to not bother because you knew what it would be like every day. The evening meal is chosen at breakfast with 3 choices for starter and the same for main. The desert is a surprise and there is no choice. The starters are often soup or pasta and a veggie choice and the mains are fish or chicken/Turkey and again a veggie option. Deserts are good. Again its easy to not bother as its not at all inspiring although I would strongly disagree with comments on TA to say its terrible or inedible. We chose half board because we were concerned that the prices were high but we wish we would have gone to a better standard of hotel on room only or B&B as you can eat reasonably cheap if you want to. I would say that generally Italy is twice as expensive as spain but you can eat a two course meal with a drink for 40 euros for 2 if you stay away from the main Sorrento tourist areas. UK prices are about as good a guide as you need really if you want to know how much it will cost you. So a coffee is 2.5 Euro and pint (although its not a full uk pint) is 5 Euro. A Panini is 4 Euro is a café. A Coke is 3 Euro which is nearly always served to you out of a can. Summing up I would avoid this hotel and choose one with a bigger pool and more sunbathing areas and go B&B not full board. I would have all the staff in any Hotel in the world as they really were a credit to the owners.

Room Tip: Only really 2 rooms with a sea view. 407 & 507. Hotel pool facing rooms also face police station...

The hotel was clean & adequate for our needs as this wasn't going to be a sitting by the pool holiday. Gianfranco & his team where professional yet friendly, the reception team were always smiling, helpful & friendly, as for the location this was not on the main road like some of the other hotels that were in the same brochure, having a stroll to the main square on a evening was quite enjoyable & a pleasant way to walk the evening meal off, I see some of the guest complain about the food options this is however stated in the brochure & we all enjoyed the choices which we had & having a surprise dessert was a good idea, I would agree though if you were late the choice was limited maybe a few more servings on those trays. Rooms were made up every day with fresh towels . If we were to return to Sorrento we would stay here again

Room Tip: ask for a balcony as you will have a view of Vesuvius, & go to the roof terrace to enjoy a sunse...

The hotel was clean and most of the staff were helpful and friendly. Our room was very basic but was adequate. The pool was very small ,cold and not inviting. Jean Franco (el commandante)the head waiter cracked me up. He would constantly correct our efforts at Italian and take personal offence if we left any food. All in all the hotel wasn't the ritz but SORRENTO was great and will definitely go back.

Dear guest we are certainly not the Ritz but did you know that even when you booked the room.
You say that the hotel was clean, the staff efficient.
We can't take the complaints if the pool was cold and uninviting for you.
We do our best every day for our guests.
Best Regards

really disappointed, had stayed in sorrento before at the flora, so was looking for something of the same standard, firstly we were given a single room with a double bed, with no balcony which was requested , they did move us rooms however at charge, as Thomsons had forgot to book the balcony! 20 euro per night
The food as previously stated was poor, limited choice if you dont get down quick there is limited salad options. the main meals did not have any hot veg, the chef seemed to think giving you salmon swimming in oil and chips as acceptable.
plenty of cakes at breakfast, however no choice when it came to dessert, just what was on the menu ie piece of melon, don't complain or leave any food as the head waiter will not speak to you.
the pool pump did not work for 4 days, so really unpleasant if you wanted a swim. The staff on reception were helpful, however the pool barman was unfriendly you had to wait for him to serve you.
the deli across the road had really good cheap food, good for packed lunches for the beach.
should have gone back to the florawith their large salad bar, gala nights etc.
must have been at a different place than the other travellers, not in the heart of sorrento, 10 mins to tasso sq is not the heart. will be back to Sorrento but not to this hotel.

Room Tip: make sure when you book you ask for a balcony otherwise you will get a single room, although in the...

My husband and I had a lovely stay at this hotel and would recommend it. It was in a good location for the centre of Sorrento and the train station and we had lovely days out at Pompeii, Capri and Naples. Do the trips yourself rather than going with Thompson - we felt they overcharged.

Couldn't fault the staff (reception, waiters, cleaners) We were disappointed not to get a balcony, but appreciate there aren't enough for everyone. A fridge in the room would be good but we got by. We thought the food was very good.

Stayed here with family for two weeks and really enjoyed our time both at the hotel and throughout the area.We have been to Italy many times and this was one of the best.Hotel was spotlessly clean and staff unfailingly polite and helpful, even complimenting me on my hesitant attempts to speak Italian(although all staff speak decent English).Food was of a good standard to expect from a 3 star hotel and offered a range of authentic local cuisine. Some music at dinner would be a good idea though. The town is easily accessible on foot as are the trains and buses which were cheap and frequent for getting about to view the region - don't go on organised trips.Pompei in particular is only a short train journey but go on a guided tour once you get there which costs 12 euros.Definitely "Torna a Sorrento" for us

Room Tip: Rooms on the side overlook a lemon grove.
