“Incredible hotel, lovely helpful staff”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 4 September 2011

We stayed at La Minervetta last week and had the most wonderful and amazing experience. From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warm and friendly staff - from Guyal who greeted us by name on arrival to Roberto who retrieved our luggage from the car. It was delightful from the moment we set foot on the property. Our room (#9) had breathtaking 180 degree views of Marina Grande. It was perfectly appointed and beautifully decorated. The hotel itself is gorgeous and well maintained - from the pool area to the various terraces. We really enjoyed lounging around the peaceful environs.

The staff is quite wonderful. In addition to Guyal and Roberto, Floriana was a delight as was another gentleman whose name unfortunately escapes me. They were always available to make dinner or excursion reservations and were great about giving us top notch recommendations about everything from food and shopping to local hikes. And of course, the breakfast prepared by Francesca was fantastic....fresh fruit, fresh omelettes, every pastry you could imagine and cappuccinos to die for...it was perfect in every sense, except for the fact that we clearly over ate every morning!

Overall, La Minervetta is a hotel for those who don't want a "hotel" experience but want more luxury than a B&B. It's small and intimate, but it's clear that they pay great attention to detail (for example, our room got serviced twice in one afternoon with fresh towels and such because the staff knew we had been swimming and out on excursions all day. That's paying attention.) The location is great, just a short walk to town, and the views are truly spectacular.

We love La Minervetta and will certainly come back.

I first saw this hotel a couple of years ago and just couldn't seem to forget about it. So I practically planned this trip to be able to stay at La Minervetta. It turned out to be a very good idea. This is a true boutique hotel with only 12 rooms and suites, beautifully decorated like a private home, every room is different from the next. The lobby is more like a big living room than an actual lobby, with plush sofas and tables covered with magazines and books making you never want to leave the hotel.

Breakfast is one of the best hotel breakfasts I've had. Not only do they have everything you ever wanted from a breakfast, they will also make almost anything else you'd like a la carte. Then you just bring the goodness outside to the enormous terrace overlooking the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius.

The hotel staff is incredibly helpful and went out of their way to find a private tour guide for me and my wife the evening before we wanted to visit Pompeii. (By the way, if going to Pompeii is part of your itinerary I strongly recommend hiring a private guide. Not only do you get the most out of your visit, not having to walk with your nose down a guide book. Our authorised guide bought our tickets for us, taking 5 min instead of an hour long line. He also showed us parts of Pompeii closed to regular visitors. Our guide was called Raffaele and he was extremely knowledgeable. The staff at La Minervetta booked us for a 3 hour tour wich ended up being 4,5 hours at no additional charge, mostly because Raffaele didn't want to finish it off until then).
Apart from sharing the lovely view of the Gulf of Naples and Mount Vesuvius all of the 12 rooms are overlooking the old fishing harbour of Sorrento and a bunch of restaurants serving the catch of the day. And if you get tired of lying by the small pool and long for the ocean you just walk down the steps (quite a lot of them) to the sundeck at Delfino restaurant.

The walk to the city center is about 15 min, 20 to the station taking you straight to Pompeii. In Sorrenton I can highly recommend a visit to "I giardini di Cataldo" also called l'Agrumario, a citrus orchard where they make their own limoncello and marmelade.

The only thing I missed at La Minervetta is a small restaurant. But on the other hand if they had one I probably wouldn't have left the hotel at all.

Room Tip: All rooms are overlooking Mount Vesuvius and the Gulf of Naples. That said no 3 is a nice corner, no...

My husband and I stayed at La Minervetta for four nights during our stay in Sorrento. The hotel is expensive, but in my opinion, worth every penny. It is my idea of heaven! The rooms are decorated beautifully, the star is very nice, the breakfast is to die for, and the view of the Bay of Naples and Mt. Vesuvius simply can't be beat. We highly recommend this hotel and we will be back!
**My only word of advice.... don't take cabs in Sorrento. If you do, it will be the most expensive cab ride of your life to go a mile or less!**

La Minervetta was the first stop on our honeymoon. When we arrived after a long red eye from New York we were mesmerized by the boutique hotels' fabulous design. Its blue and white open air backdrop evokes the breezy Mediterranean vibe, but it's the many details that make La Minervetta so unique. Its walls and book cases are filled with the most diverse array of color-popping eclectic art -- from old black and white photography, to countless piles of art books, to ceramic heads and sculptures. We fell in love with the hotels' main area filled with couches and chairs to relax on (one rainy morning I read a book on Audrey Hepburn & Jackie O), a gem of a kitchen that evokes both kitch and vintage Italian, and a sprawling terrace that overlooks the Mediterranean. The hotel's structure is a feat unto itself--it's built into the side of a cliff, and guests can walk down its private 200 or so steps down to the marina. En route, you'll encounter more sculptures, along with a grassy landing that has a cozy, but but totally glamorous pool (more for lounging, than swimming--but incredible loungy). The complementary breakfasts were also phenomenal-- delicious pastries, meats, fruit, yogurt, and the most melt in your mouth Buffalo mozzarella we've ever tasted. The chef will also make eggs and delicious espresso doppios al lattes (cappuccinos)! While we would definitely consider it an expensive stay, we felt the unique experience was well worth it and would go back again. It's in walking distance to Sorrento's central shopping and historic area. The only thing guests might find frustrating is that there's no real room service or daytime restaurant, so if you're hungry after breakfast you must find food elsewhere. But a totally sexy and unique experience!

All the recent reviews describe it really well. So my summary:
intimate hotel (it has 12 rooms) - (it is like staying in a good friends spacious villa)
stunning design
breathtaking views
the best breakfasts ever, anywhere
young ,vibrant, knowledgeable, friendly, trendy staff
superb terrace and library area - you could spend a month here - just chilling - reading and admiring the views
modern - everythng works and is high quality (compared to many of the older but expensive italien hotels)
lovely nooks and crannies , furniture, ornaments etc
lovely sun deck overlooking the fishing port (down 300+ private steps)
roped off swim area in the sea
access to delfino restaurant - great great food and setting
free parking
easy access to capri
gets our view as the best hotel in amalfi having been fortunate enough to stay at the il san pietro and the carruso
..and very good value for money

possible negatives + my view:
you have to climb 300+ steps from the sun deck - it has beautiful views but is a physically demanding climb
no gym or pool - ok so swim in the sea for a change - specific roped off area
10/15 minute walk into sorrento - personally i enjoyed the walk and being slightly outside of the main tourist area
wifi is not free - but it is not expensive and works well
if you like big corporate style or "traditional" and old italien hotels - this is not for you

This is a small botique hotel built into the side of a cliff in Sorrento. All rooms overlook the Meditteranean and are each uniquely decorated. Apparently the owner husband and wife are an architect and a designer....it is apparent because this place is beautiful. I can't say enough about the amazing views. The lobby and outdoor patio are beautiful.

In the morning they have a huge spread ready for breakfast, but you can also request anything you want made to order. Some of the restaurants in Sorrento offer transportation to/from for dinner which is convenient because the hotel is a bit of a hike up hill from downtown Sorrento.

We cannot wait to go back to La Minervetta!

From the setting to the service it could not have been better. A short walk into town with a fantastic view along the way. Rooms were very comfotable and the staff was great. Breakfast on the terrace was breathtaking and the food was unreal... Try the pancakes!!Only 12 rooms so book early...it's worth it!!

Room Tip: All rooms are great with fantastic views
