Maison La Minervetta
Ranked #1 of 100 Hotels in Sorrento
Certificate of Excellence
Reviewed 4 January 2012

We stayed here at the end of 2011-beginning of 2012 for five nights. Overall, we very much enjoyed our stay. The view over the bay is stunning and the wall-high windows are the best perk of the hotel, by far. To add to this, the rooms and common areas are very chic, tastefully decorated and certainly not a typical re-hash of standard hotel decor.

The breakfasts were excellent - do not miss on the fact that you can have a warm breakfast - eggs, pancakes etc. Also, we had a wide selection of fruits and pastries and teas.

The hotel is located about 15-20 minutes walk from the main street in Sorrento (Corso). We liked this very much, as it is a very pleasant walk and a good way to build up a bit of an appetite. The walk is uphill, but my wife was six months pregnant at the time and did not find it difficult.

The hotel staff was very nice and quite helpful although you may have to actively ask for help rather than have them volunteer it very much. We found their recommendations to be generally very good.

Besides being beautiful, the rooms were very, very comfortable with nice beds. excellent toiletries, interesting books and free (slowish) wi-fi. Slight inconvenience: the huge windows lead to fast heat loss (we were there in a cold period) and the air-conditioning (which is the only way to heat up the rooms) was quite noisy in our room.

Lat thing - they have free parking, which was great since we were driving a rental and used Minervetta as a base for exploring the Amalfi Coast and other areas.

We would (and will) very warmly recommend this hotel to others.

This gorgeous little hotel's prime asset is the panoramic view of the Bay of Naples and Vesuvius which draws the eye like a magnet from every room and terrace. The interior of the hotel has bright strong colour creating a contrasting feast for the eyes. Innumerable 'objets' cover every surface in the living room which is also filled with high piles of books and squashy comfortable sofas in which to enjoy them or the view. Our standard bedroom was brightly decorated in white and blue and furnished with king bed but only one armchair. Plenty of good reading lights by chair and bed was a big plus. After a long day of travel what joy to relax with a bath and curl up in a robe and enjoy the view. Unfortunately there is no restaurant and in winter the steps down to the Marina Grande are closed.
The walk to Sorrento takes about ten minutes. There is a good selection of restaurants but avoid the tourist rip-off joints. Try the nearby Taverna della Sorrentina for an authentic experience. La Minervetta's breakfasts are outstanding, the best we have ever experienced in Italy - and that says something. The always charming, helpful and friendly staff enhanced our stay at this gem.

You will not be disappointed by this hotel. The rooms with their unique views of the bay are so good you want to sit and stare all day. The staff could not have been more friendly, even bringing glasses to our room to enable us to drink the wine we had bought to enjoy (there is no bar in-house) and to my great surprise even brought the wine glasses already full with complimentary and very good red wine.
The rooms are quiet and restful, and the huge double shower a fantastic tonic after a hard day seeing the surrounding Amalfi Coast.
I'd recommend leaving your hire car behind and take the train to Pompeii, it takes the stress out of the dealing with Italian roads and was one of many useful tips given to us by the staff.
I'd go again in a heartbeat. Just book it.

You can understand why this hotel has won so many design awards - owned by an architect, the shared living areas are beautifully appointed with scuptures and a multitude of books. The various sun decks are all great, looking down on a little fishing village.
the hotel also has about 300 stairs down to this village - which is helpful to get to the nice restaurants down there - the other hotels have to take the long way home.
The room was lovely and quiet, clean, with beautiful design. The only drawback was that our room didn't have a bath - I love my baths!
The breakfast was great, and they accomodated by gluten and lactose free diet.
Overall, I would recommend to friends and family.

Holiday accommodation doesn't get any better than this. The hotel is located close to the town centre of Sorrento. This makes it easy to access local attractions via train or bus, stroll down the local streets and browse the shops, or, dine on delicious food overlooking the sea. Car parking is also available on site.

The rooms are beautifully decorated with breathtaking views of the sea and Mt Vesuvius. Evenings can be spent in the comfy lounges reading a book with cocktails in hand.

Breakfast was a treat every day thanks to Francesca and her delicious omlettes and pancakes made to order.

Hope to stay here again some day.

The room rate is reasonable for what you get. Hope to stay here again someday.

Just flawless - every single detail at this hotel has been thought-out and placed to perfection; their attention to detail is outstanding. Outstanding views, beautiful kitchen, super helpful staff and great breakfast (their scrambled eggs are out of this world). Our room (8) was probably the best we've ever stayed in (and we've done quite a few 5 Star hotels over the past few years). Many hotels claim to offer the full package but this one actually does - Sorrento is nice, but La Minervetta makes it a town worth visiting again and again.
