“Wonderfully unique hotel with stunning views”
Reviewed 12 June 2010

After a long flight from Los Angeles to Rome and then driving three more hours to Sorrento we checked into La Minervetta and were shown to our room that had absolutely stunning views of the Bay of Naples and Mt. Vesuvius. The staff was very friendly and helpful, the breakfast was excellent (served outside, again with incomparable views). The hotel was very quiet and our room was good size and very comfortable. The hotel furnishings are very eclectic but tasteful. We didn't touch our car during our entire stay as we walked into Sorrento and took the local train to Pompei. There are private stairs down to the Fisherman's village below the hotel but be aware that you better be in reasonably good shape as the trip back up after dinner (and wine!) will work off a few calories.

My wife and I stayed here on the last part of our honeymoon. We choose Sorrento because of it's proximity to Capri, Pompeii, and the Amalfi Coast. The hotel had large rooms, all with breathtaking views. Breakfast was great, and the staff recommended a few restaurants that did not disappoint. Good location (only about a 10 minute walk to the heart of the city). Would definitely stay here again!

one of those rare places where websites and reviews can't really capture the positive essence of the place (unfortunately usually the other way around). luxury means different things to different people but for me it means space, comfort, balance, easiness, simplicity, peaceful good vibes and creativity - all words you could use to describe la minervetta. nothing bling bling - nothing loud, pretentious, "touristy" or staff asking you to buy drinks etc.

we stayed for 6 nights and moved room (to get that magnificent corner room view for a couple of nights). you could literally just sit in that room all day enjoying the view in peace.

breakfast is an event although a low key one. staff are super friendly and there is always an abundance of extras with all the details - freshly squeezed orange juice in jugs - excellent quality cold cuts - delicious baked pastries - they really have planned this perfectly.

the living room has the largest collection of taschen art books i have ever seen - all those special editions and collectors editions that cost an arm and a leg. I lost myself in the stanly kubrick archives - and really wanted to get stuck into the bergman archives...

the staff deserve a special mention - sincere, genuinely friendly and caring - and great with kids. i have a 4 year old and he was made feel like a king (the only child staying there...)

one word of warning - the restos aren't all they are cracked up to be. there is one exception - taverna azzura - down the steps. they will never smile or talk to you but the food is fab and priced reasonably

one of the nicest places i have stayed in.

.... and forget about sorrento - overpriced, FULL of english and german tourists and nothing really special - try cinque terre or comogli / liguria etc for much better....

My husband and I stayed here along with my parents on the 9th and 10th of May and really loved this place! First off the views, the views, the views were spectacular! My parents had the red corner room on their website that has windows along two whole walls of the room and never in all our travels (and I feel like we've seen some really great places) had we seen a view like that. Get that room if you can, I think it's a corner Superior Queen? Anyway this hotel really made our stay very memorable. They had a great balcony to eat breakfast on in the morning and to also enjoy at night while sitting on a lounge chair with candles lit in lanterns everywhere. This hotel has very unique decorations. It's almost like your on a boat or at a friends beach house. The bathrooms are beautiful each with there own different colored tiles. Oh, can't forget about the staff.... The lady's serving breakfast everyday were very nice and always happy to make you up some eggs with a smile. The front desk girls spoke wonderful english and one who's name was something like Francesca even gave me a shopping and to do list when we left and were continuing on to Capri. You can't miss the experience Hotel Minervetta has to offer. I hope to go back someday.

La Minervetta is a hotel for those looking for something different. The decor sets this hotel apart from its rivals - funky, imaginative and in a stunning location. Huge picture windows in the bedrooms mean that you can fall asleep watching the lights of Sorrento twinkling below and wake up with the sunrise over the facing hill.

One of the few hotels where I have wanted to stay put so I could wade through a truly glorious collection of art books, photographic books and all sorts. A hotel where a lot of thought has gone into the decor but it certainly does not have that predictable feeling of having been "interior designed".

Friendly and helpful staff - recommended Pompeii by train and lent us the guidebook. Perfect breakfasts.

A hotel not worthyy of the usual superlatives! Location (admittedly a modest walk from town, but well, well worth it!), attentiveness of staff, a hotel that's more art museum than hotel, and a room with a view that actually made us gasp aloud upon entering. I could go on at greater length and in more detail, but I'll end with the thought that I don't know how it could possibly be any better than this in Sorrento.
