I actually stayed at this hotel in February last year, and my memories of the visit will stay with me a long time. This is a truly special place, and I can only agree with what people have said so far with regards the incredible views, quirky decor and the warm welcome. However, I feel I must stress that if you expect this hotel to be in line with other top end hotels in other parts of the world, you may be disappointed. There is no business lounge, restaurant, spa, or white suited desk staff normally associated with hotels of this price range. The atmosphere is much more relaxed and casual and you are encouraged to almost treat the hotel as your own home. This is very much to my taste, but will not be to everybody's. I loved the position out of town, after all it's that which gives you the stunning views. We slept with the blinds up every night just so that we could awake to THAT view every morning unhindered. The rooms are spacious and each one has it's own sense of style. I believe that the owners are architects/designers and you can see that everywhere here. Breakfast is an amazing buffet with eggs cooked to order, and there is a lovely communal feel to it with large tables to sit around and chat with other guests. Much less formal than other dreadful silent dining rooms and so refreshing. The staff were endlessly helpful, providing maps, train times and making restaurant reservations all with a smile and genuine care and attention. When leaving you feel like you have been staying with an old friend, making promises to return soon. If the above appeals, do not stay anywhere else in Sorrento.

Stayed at the La Minervetta for six nights in Sept. 2010. The views from this hotel are incredible. Our room had a wall of windows looking out on the Bay of Naples. The terrace where breakfast was served also overlooked the Bay of Naples. Have been to Europe on ten different trips and this was by far the best breakfast we have ever had in any European hotel.
The walk to town took about 20 minutes and it was a very easy walk. The hotel only served breakfast, so if you wanted lunch you had to walk into town and back. You did the same thing for dinner. Taxis were too expensive and we never looked into the bus.
The pool was really a large jacuzzi and you had to walk down about five flights of stairs that were cut into the cliff to get to it.
If you eat at any of the restaurants located on the Marina Grande you can walk up about 300 steps to get to the elevator in the hotel.
Although the views from this hotel were incredible, if I were to go to Sorrento again, I think I would try a hotel that was centrally located in the town. My husband said he would stay
at the La Minervetta again.
We both thought the bed was too firm.

Re La Minervetta - I wrote this in the Visitors' book - " It's not often that the brochures and the internet pictures are less impressive than the actual place, but in the case of La Minervetta, it really IS true !"
The whole place is full of the most amazing ceramics ( which is my big thing) plus a cornucopia of wonderful artefacts scattered around everywhere.....if you love art and design, you will treasure it - we were totally overwhelmed by the magnificence of this small but perfect gem of a hotel....our plate glass window looked out onto the Bay of Naples, with Vesuvius just over the water....a truly astonishing sight every morning. Breakfast on the terrace every morning was so delightful, and the staff were absolutely adorable.....we loved it ( and we are not honeymooners - been together for 38 years !) However, if you are thinking of going for a honeymoon, DO ! You will love it......
Re Sorrento - we went on 5th September, and we found it busy and crowded, so Gawd knows what it's like in high season - as for Positano, Amalfi and Capri - well, if you like being beside millions of people in very hot places, be my guest....we found it stressful, and as i said, it wasn't even THAT busy. You'd have to like people very very much to enjoy the relentless cars, bustling and heat....after a week, we went to Tuscany - how relaxing !

Little can be added to all of the wonderful reviews.
Breath taking views, lovely eclectic decor, excellent helpful staff and
responsive service.
Tasty breakfast and delicious coffee and juices on the terrace.
The only downside for us, our room was a bit minimalistic with
barely adequate lighting for reading and on only one side of the bed.
The pluses made this a minor inconvenience.

I cannot begin to put into words how amazing this hotel is. We came across it on Trip Advisor and based on the reviews alone booked it for our 7-day honeymoon. Even though we knew it was going to be a wonderful place to stay, the hotel, its location and staff completely exceeded our expectations. The location is beautiful - just out of town with the most stunning views over the Bay of Naples and the Marina below. I'd been nervous about how far it was from the amenities, but a gentle stroll into the centre of town was just 15 minutes (accompanied by gorgeous views and pretty shops and restaurants along the way). I also had no idea that a beach was directly below the hotel - the hotel has direct access by an invigorating zig-zag flight of 300 stairs which was very handy!
The interior of the hotel is absolutely beautiful; a collection of artisan works, eclectic books, local ceramics and inspiring artwork. The standard to which it is maintained is incredible - it looks brand new both outside and in in every nook and cranny.
Speaking of which, there are so many little places to escape to and explore in the hotel - places for reflection, comfort, peace and sunbathing.
The jet-pool area was a lovely place to start the morning relaxing on the loungers before taking a welcome dip in the little pool overlooking the ocean and Vesuvius.
Breakfast at La Minervetta was incredible! The kitchen is transformed into a cornucopia of delicacies for every taste - pastries, cereals, cheeses, meats, breads, pancakes and eggs cooked to perfection and all presented in different way each day. It was difficult to tear ourselves away from breakfast on the sun-soaked terrace each morning as the temptation was to eat all day!
Whilst at the hotel we took the boat to Capri and the chairlift from Anacapri to Mount Solaro for its breathtaking views. We also climbed Vesuvius and visited Pompei which was an incredible step back into a time that still seems so very much alive when walking around the ruins. We drove to Amalfi and Positano - both simple, pretty towns with gorgeous views and bays and also visited a local spa for a half-day of pampering.
Our room (no 6) was stunning - simple and beautifully chic. We adored it from the moment we arrived. With views right over the Bay of Naples and Sorrento, we were treated every morning and evening to masterpieces in the gallery that was our window.
The staff could not have been more friendly and helpful when it came to looking after our needs - we were always greeted with a smile and nothing was ever too much trouble.
We are desperate to visit again and will always feel blessed that we started our married life at such a beautiful place - one that we will never forget.
