“A little piece of Heaven”
Reviewed 28 June 2013

I stayed at this hotel for only 3 nights as we were travelling through but we all said why didn’t we book this hotel for a longer stay.
First impressions are not great from the outside as it is situated on a very busy noisy road, but once inside it more than makes up for it. The hotel is family run and very friendly and helpful, you actually feel very safe here. The rooms are decorated and cleaned to a high standard, but you must ask for a room at the back of the hotel. My son and his girlfriend had the most glorious views, unfortunately my room was at the front because they did not have any single rooms at the back, but I knew this in advance and it would not put me off staying there again. Although I am rating the sleep quality as average my son would rate his as excellent it really does depend on the room. The hotel is within walking distance of the main piazza where there are lots of nice restaurants for the evening.
There is only one thing I can say about the breakfast OMG it is the best continental breakfast you could ever wish for, along with the fresh breads, croissants and cereals there are spectacular cakes and pastries all made by their cook on the premises. The juices, orange and grapefruit are made fresh from the fruit grown in their gardens and lemonade is made from the lemons growing in abundance.
Drinks and snacks are served around the pool from 11.00 - 16.00 and it is a must to try one of David’s specialities, ummm, simply delicious.
The people we met there were very friendly and had been there time again, I would certainly return to this hotel.

Room Tip: Choose a room at the rear of the hotel, great views and very quiet.

Stayed at the Hotel Girasole in October after travelling down from Venice - lovely family run place with helpful staff. It's basic but clean, don't expect all mod cons, its reflected in the reasonable cost. The common areas are nice and enjoyed by the guests, the breakfast was hearty and good quality. The location is good, a short walk between two metro stops and far enough away from the hustle and bustle of Naples. A great place from families, the rooms at the rear have a view of Vesuvius too! The pool isn't heated, but we still had a swim on our last day :)

Rita and the team were always keen to ensure that our needs were met. Room 20 was lovely with fantastic views both day and night of Vesuvius and the bay of Naples, we were treated to fireworks displays every evening from around the bay. The hotel is about a 15 min walk to Piazza Tasso & although Corsa Italia is a VERY busy road, Rita told us of a much prettier route into Sorrento; this added another 5-10 mins to the journey but was worth it as we stopped every time to look at the view over the marina & there was very little traffic. Breakfast set us up for the day and staff were happy to answer any queries. Perhaps fresh coffee may have been preferable to the drinks available from the machine but the cappuchino that we had every morning was acceptable. The pool & surroundings were always clean and the bar snacks, particularly the grilled cheese on a lemon leaf, were exceptional. We would recommend a few restaurants in Sorrento - Fenice near the hospital, DON'T get a taxi, it cost us 20 Euros and we could have walked it. The staff were friendly and helpful, even offering advice on my partner's bad back! The steaks and fish were excellent and well worth the visit. The Bufalito was different with very tasty food, a delicious buffalo casserole. If you are thinking of hiring a boat we would recommend sailing around Capri. We did this for about 3 hours and this included time for a swim although we didn't go into any of the grottos - we did this when we visited the island a second time.

Room Tip: room 20 on floor 3 has a lovely view over the bay, room 41 on the lower ground floor is a larger roo...

This is a very well run hotel. All staff are very pleasant and make you feel very welcome. Our room was spacious and clean. Breakfast is excellent with good coffee and a great choice of cereals, yoghurts, pastries, cheese, ham and plenty of fresh fruit. It has a great pool which was much needed on some very hot days.

For the stars this hotel has it's an excellent one and I highly recommend it.

Room Tip: Don't forget the Italian tourist tax added to your bill at the end of your stay. Google it if y...

We chose this hotel following reading the reviews. My husband and I were celebrating our Silver Wedding anniversary and had always wanted to visit Italy so the Girasole sounded ideal. Un-beknown to me my husband had been in communication with the hotel prior to our arrival so my first impression of the room was being greeted by the amazing smell of a huge flower arrangement that the staff had organised on his behalf. The room in itself was large with a kingsize bed and also a small guest bed at the other end of the room. It was authentic italian in its styling. If you want a marble and chrome generic sterile hotel do not go to the Girasole, if you want a hotel where you feel like you are staying with a italian family come here.
Breakfasts at the hotel offered plenty of choice and staff were always on hand with a cheery good morning if you needed them. The pool was across a private lane and offered a lovely selection of lunches from its bar. The homemade lemonade is fantastic as are Davide's lunchtime specials. The hotel is on a busy road and if you can upgrade to a room at the back I would recommend it but don't let it stop you visiting as the airconditioning is more than adequate and we didn't use our balcony while we were there except for drying swimwear.
There is a section of the main road on the 15 minute walk to Sorrento that doesn't have a path on one side but we just changed sides, the italian drivers seemed quite used to pedestrians being in the road. Also, if you have a pushchair you can avoid this completely by using the back road which you get to by turning right as you come out of the hotel and runs parallel with the main road into the Piazzo Tasso.
The reservation for our anniversary meal at Donna Sophia was made by Rita on her recomendation and was brilliant, we didn't even have to worry about how to get there as the restaurant collected and returned us.
The staff at The Girasole are absolutely lovely and cant't do enough for you. The rooms were cleaned daily and everyone smiled and said hello. We were so sad to leave and were really touched by the family coming to wave goodbye. We will definitely be back!

Room Tip: Rooms at the back are quieter if you can get them

Chose this hotel over 4 star hotels of a similar price after reading the reviews on Trip Advisor and was disappointed.
First the positives:
The hotel was clean and the staff were pleasant. The gardens are very nice.
Negatives:
- We paid to upgrade with Thomson and got a tiny square balcony surrounded by much bigger balconies. We asked to move but were shown a room next to the busy road as an alternative.
- The hotel is old fashioned and is extremely noisy as the walls are paper thin.
- It is AT LEAST a 15 minute walk into the centre (we are both mid twenties and fit). You have to walk single file along an extremely busy road.
- We requested a late check out and despite checking that the room would not be occupied until late that evening, we were told the charge was 30 euros to stay a few more hours.
- Safe, fridge and sunbeds(!) cost extra.

We have just arrived back from 2 weeks in the Hotel Girasole, Sorrento. We can honestly say we have never been made to feel more welcome in any other hotel we have stayed in... We were made to feel like a part of the family; all of the staff were really friendly and were always happy to chat, and they made sure our every need was met. The bar in the evenings was used by the owners who whilst engaging in a game of cards, were always happy to join in conversation and made you feel very welcome. The breakfast's were brilliant, everything really fresh and everything kept well topped up. The rooms were really clean and the showers were great, really powerful. The pool area is lovely, and had a pool bar that serves lunches, which include specials which are well recommended. The fruit served, was all grown in the gardens, which are well worth a walk round, its a fascinating place. The oranges are out of this world, and the home made lemon juice is definitely worth a try. We were really sad to leave having had an amazing two weeks in Sorrento. Thank you to all of the staff for helping make our holiday as enjoyable as it was. Definitely recommend this family run hotel to anyone who is thinking of heading to Sorrento.
