“How on earth is it a 4* hotel?”
Reviewed 7 September 2009

We booked through the easyjet website - which only showed views from the 5* hotel on the same site. The hotel is situated on a park - the grounds are beautifully manicured. The 5* hotel is located at the cliff/sea end of the site, whilst the Residenza is based near the entrance by the road. I understand that the rooms at the back of the hotel do have views over the grounds. There was no restaurant at the Residenza (although the hotel web site says there is!) just a dining room for breakfast. Any other food on the park grounds was served at the 5* hotel. There was no room service menu (although the hotel website says that room service is offered), no kettle in the room, no information of the hotel, it's site or the facilities. We were only allowed to use the pool by the Residenza - mosiquito repellent a must - very grumpy lifeguard/pool attendant. Access to the hotel beach €35 per head per day at the weekend, €25 per head per day on week days. There is a beach restaurant which generally has reasonable food - but our most disappointing was €24 for 3 small prawns. The food at the 5* hotel was sometimes good, although I wouldn't say exceptional - we did have lobster which was very over cooked. The rooms are clean but functional. We paid more there for 4* (I would rate them 2*) than we have paid elsewhere for 5* and the service just isn't there.

The rudest staff, the filthiest public areas, breakfast in a country with the most wonderful produce was tinned fruit cocktail, plastic ham, plastic cheese and even poor coffee, in italy!!!
Food left overs were left in the lift area for 3 days.
Yuk
This was the most miserable 5 days of holiday we have ever spent. we were supposed to be in the disgusting villa on site that we had booked which was furnished from a junk shop and was even dirtier than this place, so bad we refused to stay there.

I wouldn't recommend this hotel to anyone, you can find better. Please try so you don't have your holiday ruined.

Under no circumstances should you bother staying at this hotel. The 'Lifeguard' has to be one of the rudest people I have ever met on my travels. The lack of facilities is astonishing - restaurant was only open for breakfast - no food available after 10 a.m.
The staff on reception did nothing to promote tourism in Sorrento and were very unhelpful with general information regarding buses etc.
The only friendly face we witnessed was the lady cleaning the rooms and she also did a very good job.
I cannot understand how this establishment manages to hold four stars??? When was it last assessed?
Will definitely visit Sorrento again but would rather sleep rough at the bus station than stay here!!!

My wife and I had to be transferred here when our original hotel (La Terrazza in Sorrento) cancelled our booking at the last minute due to structural problems. Initially we were unhappy with the room we were given (dark, no view) but we got transferred eventually after 4 days to a garden view room and decided to stay longer. The positives are: the grounds are beautiful;the pool is good and very private; breakfast dining was lovely in the garden. The staff were excellent and friendly. The real plus to this hotel is that we had access to the 5-star Parco Hotel on the same grounds. The view from the Parco Hotel balcony is stunning (Vesuvius/Capri/the Bay etc) and we sat there almost every night into the wee hours with our own bottle of vino! Bar prices at the Parco are very expensive (even by Irish standards!) It's a pity we were not allowed free access to the beach (€20 per person per day!) as it's lovely. However we did walk there in the evening when the bathers had departed. I find it difficult to accept that Residenza is 4-star. However the rooms we occupied were very clean and functional. We did have a Sky TV breakdown and reported it for 4 days but nothing was done which is strange. However, we didn't come to Sorrento to watch TV! The grounds of the Parco Hotel and the view from the balcony made up for any other little niggles. One thing to watch out for also: the walk to Sorrento is approx 15mins which, in the heat of the day and for some, might be a little too much. We didn't mind as we enjoy the exercise. Overall a positive review. Would we return? Probably.

  • Liked — The view from the main hotel balcony
  • Disliked — We requested a room change as the first room was too dark

Stayed at the hotel for 3 days and overall it was above average. Room was clean, breakfast was good and good location. However, the beauty of this hotel is it's location on the property of another hotel - Hotel Parco dei Principi (PDP). We found out about this gem on the last day of our stay. PDP had an amazing view of the ocean and looked to be very upscale.

We stayed at La Residensa for 4 nights in June as a base for sightseeing. We enjoyed our stay. The hotel was a good standard and the staff helpful. Breakfast was good, though we didn't eat dinner there.I had read some previous reviews but did not agree with many of the criticisms. The hotel was a 20minute walk from the centre of Sorrento but benefitted from being away from the heavy traffic around the centre. Having a drink on the terrace of the sister hotel, the Principe, gave wonderful views back into Sorrento. We also found a wonderful restaurant above the cliffs near the hotel which had similar wonderful views and sunsets.
As long as you don't mind a little walking this is a good base and much quieter than in the centre.
