Our room was on the second floor at the front. As the Corsa Italia is one of the resort's main streets, I thought that the room may have been noisy bit I needn't have worried. The double glazed doors kept out all but the loudest of noises. The balcony was small but even in October we managed to sit out in the evening without feeling too cold. The room was quite small but kept spotlessly clean by the staff. The air conditioning worked well and was exceptionally quiet too. Breakfast was very good - plenty of fresh bread, croissant,s and Italian specialities. Proper fresh coffee and fruit juice would have improved it however. The reception staff were always friendly and cheerful. Overall I would put this hotel on my "good value" list for short breaks.

The reason for our trip was to see Pompeii, Vesuvius and Herculanium. All are reached very easily and cheaply by train (5 minutes to the station, E3.80 return). Pompeii is a vast site but a little disappointing as it has just about been stripped bare of statues etc. that we were told had been moved to a museum in Naples. We took a mini bus from Ercolanium station to Vesuvius (E16 including entry fee ). It was a stiff, dusty walk to the summit with 3 or 4 stops to regain our breath. Walking around the rim as far as was allowed with stops to look at the views took about 40 minutes and then 25 minutes back to the car park again. Decided to go to Naples (1 hour 15 mins) to look at the exhibits from Pompeii etc. I had heard that Naples was dirty and dangerous. Although we never felt in danger, it was certainly dirty with rubbish blown everywhere on the wind. The city was also choked with traffic and its fumes. Bedlam would be an apt description. The museum lacked imagination in the way it displayed its collection and one of the major rooms was virtually empty (although they were setting up a (visiting) collection at the time.

The hotel did not have it's own restaurant, so we ate out every night.. We tried a restaurant on the main square and another further down the road that was made attractive by being like a garden on the inside. Both were less good value and the food was no better quality than the Leone Rosso (Red Lion) close to the station which served some of the best pasta I have eaten.

Overall good hotel, well located for what we wanted. Sorrento was good for a short break but after a week I think you would be bored and ready to go home.

My kids and I have just returned from a wonderful 5 days in Hotel Sorrento City. Although the room was slightly small for 4 of us, it didn't really matter too much as we were out all the time enjoying the town and surrounding areas including Pompei and Capri. The hotel was very clean, and the staff couldn't have been more helpful - even to the point of arranging for us to have a plate of croissants and jam, and a jug of juice and bottles of water for breakfast before we left to come home at 4.00am! The central location of the hotel was perfect for us, and my kids can't wait to go back. I would recommend this hotel to anyone.

After a long day travelling to Sorrento we were very pleasantly surprised at the quality of our chosen hotel. Hotel Sorrento City is situated close to the heart of the busy town centre. It is a relatively small but well furnished establishment. We were at the back of the hotel so had no view of the busy street at the front of the building - however it was very quiet ! Our group had a triple and quad room which had ample space and necessary comforts. The shower was excellent, tv was available and we had access to a safe.

The breakfast was pleasing with a selection of pastries, rolls, toast, cheese, ham, yogurt, cakes and hot beverages - all nicely presented. The staff were polite and helpful and we felt welcome.

Although this hotel does not have a view of the sea. it does have some other advantages. It is very close to the rail and coach station (step out of the hotel and turn right and right again) and a fantastic gelateria cafe opposite (ice cream). Should you wish to indulge in more cakes - there is a bakery next door ! Or a film - a cinema is next to the bakery ! A handy supermarket is also nearby.

There are plenty of good restaurants in Sorrento - but we were looking for value for money and were advised by our taxi driver to try out the il Leone Rosso (found close by on the way to the railway station). The menu was excellent (lamb, steak, fish, pizza, chicken etc) served with a good choice of vegetables and side dishes. For dessert we opted for the cut fruit salad ! This restaurant served up several surprises which were not added to the bill ! First class service as well !

If you are looking for a seaview or quiet seclusion then the Hotel City Sorrento may not be for you. For location, convenience to shops, food and transport then look no further than this gem at the heart of Sorrento !!
