“Decent hotel - nice location”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 16 September 2010

This hotel served it's purpose and is in a great location in Sorrento. It's a nice value, staff was great, location is excellent, breakfast is ok and we enjoyed the balcony that overlooked the street. We grabbed some deli meats and wine from the deli across the street and sat on the balcony for a light pre dinner snack and watched the crowds walking below us. It was great! The only big gripe is that the rooms are really out of date and could use an update. This really might not be fair since we stayed at a phenomenal 4 star hotel in Rome right before arriving but they could step up a bit if they did some updating.

Hotel was small and clean but with no personality if that is what you are looking for. Be sure to get a room away from the street. Staff was pleasant. Location was perfect - two blocks from train station and close to historic center of Sorrento.

We chose this hotel based primarily on the many positive reviews we read here on TripAdvisor and we were not disappointed. The staff is friendly and very helpful, the rooms, while on the small side, are clean and well appointed, and the continental breakfast served every morning was perfect. The location couldn't be better - just a few steps to Piazza Tasso, the main square of Sorrento, and only a 5 minute walk to the train station. All the rooms have a little balcony with table and chairs and the door opening out on to the balcony has double-paned glass so the room is quiet even on the front side of the hotel (so long as you keep the door closed at night). All in all Hotel Sorrento City is a great value for your money if you're looking for a clean, quiet place to stay staffed by friendly, helpful people.

Location: Excellent. Right on the main shopping/eating strip. Easy to walk to if you’re arriving by bus

Rooms/amenities: our room and bathroom were small but nice, we had a balcony with patio furniture that we’d use each night, breakfast was average

Suggestions: can’t remember the name or exact location but there’s a take-out place in one of the side street/alley-ways that serves up fresh calzones and arancini (deep fried/stuffed rice balls), some of the best I’ve had, we also did a cheese factory tour/tasting that was fun that we’d recommend: http://www.caseificiomichelangelo.com

Overall: would definitely stay here again, front desk staff were very helpful, we stayed here when there was the explosion at Viareggio train station, and they called Trenitalia every day for us to ask the status since it affected us for the next leg of our journey

The hotel has a great location. The hotel re very simple, but it is perfect if you are not planning to spend much time at the hotel. The hotel is close to the port, the train station, and the center of town, so its convenient to anywhere you want to go.

Hotel Sorrento City is one block from the train station and two blocks from the center of town, so a great location. The website photos give the impression of a huge lobby, but this is a small but perfectly comfortable hotel. Everything is very clean, rooms are comfortable and cheery, but the breakfast could be better. There is meat and cheese (a welcome addition to the standard continental breakfast) and pastries, but not much selection of fruit, cereal or yogurt. There is a fancy machine that purports to make Cappucino and latte, but really just infuses hot water and milk into instant coffee powder--yuck! Juice is some kind of watery juice drink. Staff is polite but not effusive.

Hotel Sorrento City was a great choice for a four-night stay on a grand tour of Italy earlier this month. It was a short walk from the train station and from the main square where there were buses to the marinas. Next door was a large grocery store and a delicious patisserie. There was free WiFi in the lobby and one computer for guest use. Hotel staff was extremely helpful, suggesting restaurants, booking tours, and arranging breakfast early one morning when we had a 7 AM departure. Rooms were clean and comfortable, though a bit tight. All in our group had a patio or balcony. Some of the doubles/triples included bunk beds. Rooms were impeccably clean and quiet. The only negative was that you could not leave the electricity running while out of the room, so it took a while for rooms to cool down after returning (we were there during a record-breaking heat wave). Overall this was an excellent choice and I would return there if I ever get back to Sorrento.
