“The most relaxing place we stayed”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed 22 August 2010

Fantasic night and I wished had planned to stay longer. We paid EUR107 a night with breakfast and even though dinner was a little expensive and the only option unless you want to head to town I cannot say enough about this place. Our room was next to the balcony so we had a few beers and watched the sunset over the plantations. Walked down to the pebble beach were we relaxed with no one else around. Could not recommend this place highly enough. A great place to relax and let the time tick by.

I got a really good price for this hotel. It is more luxurious than I am used to. The apartment was big, much more than we needed. The brakfast was terrific. The restaurant seems to be good, but a little expensive and you need to make reservation. The property is ample, with olive and lemon trees. Very relaxing, with just the noise of birds singing. There's a private beach 15 min. down the hill.
The hotel is a little far from the city. A taxi is €25 from the station, a little expensive in my opinion. To reach public transportation you must walk 15 min. way up the hill. The hotel offers free transfers to the city in fixed times and under reservation.
This hotel is a good option if you want to relax inside the property or if you have a car. If you want to explore the region, like Capri, Amalfi Coast, Pompei, you should try something closer to the city.

We loved our stay here---the room, the dining and the lemon grove setting.
After coping with the traffic driving into Sorrento the first day, we were happy
to park our rental car (free parking is gated/secure) for the 4 nights here, and take the hotel's a.m. shuttle into Sorrento. In addition to enjoying Sorrento, we also took the commuter train to Naples & Pompeii, etc., and the regional bus (across from the train station) where you can get on and off as you wish along the Amalfi Coast. Even though we speak no Italian desk staff helped us figure out how to take the train, catch the bus, etc. On returning to the peaceful RRG in the eves, it's best to catch a taxi back the 2 km (altho' can walk the narrow road, or difficult-to-find city bus/ticket option). We chose to eat 3 of 4 dinners here, with gracious, country-elegant dining service and well prepared dishes using local ingredients. The cold breakfast buffet was the favorite of our 3-week trip, partly because of the excellent pastries (turns out the dinner chef is also a pastry chef). There's short trail access to a rustic but stunning beach cove, and bring water sandals, as it's a smooth rock/not sand shoreline. Our room was 2-level and spacious, looked out onto a lemon grove. Amenities include free SKY TV in rooms, and a shared desk computer off the dining room. All in all this is a restful and peaceful place to stay in a rural setting, very close to---but away from the bustle of Sorrento. The staff all act as if they are interested in your having a good experience. If we're ever in the area in the future we will definitely stay here again.

We absolutely loved this hotel. The setting, the views, the staff everything was topnotch. The dinner at the restaurant was excellent. The sunsets were awesome and it was quiet and peaceful. After the craziness of Rome we needed a slower pace.
However, it was not an easy walk into Sorrento, the street being very busy, curving and narrow. But there was a shuttle bus. The only issue we had was that the English of the staff was sometimes limited and when asked directions to a meeting point for our tour group no one was able to provide them. It turned out that the meeting point was right up the road less than a 1/4 mile away. Oh well. It was not a castastrophe. The setting and the sunsets more than made up for it!!!

For a relaxing stay, near, but far enough away from, the hurly-burly of Sorrento/Amalfi Coast the Relais Regina Giovanni is a very good option. We stayed in a "superior" room with a garden view (and sea glimpses) set in the olive and lemon groves some distance away from the main body of the hotel. Yes, its a 5 minute walk for the ample, well presented buffet breakfast but that is a pure pleasure on a sunny morning. More inconvenient is the trek into town requiring, for all but the most hardy, use of the hotel shuttle, an expensive taxi (15-25 euros) or your own car. The last shuttle on offer is at 4 pm so an evening out for a meal (and drinks) will add 40 euros or so in taxi fares!

The superior room offers a good degree of comfort and facilities with well-equipped kitchen(except no wine glasses!), lounge, bedroom and two, yes two, bathrooms. There are two satellite TV's, wi-fi internet connection and air-conditioning. The windows all have insect proof screens - a needed prootection against the mozzies. Booked 2 months in advance on a non-returnable basis the room was 79 euros per night. Superb value for money!

The staff are very friendly and helpful and will advise on trips to Pompeii, Herculaneum, Vesuvius etc. The Circumvesuviana railway is fast, frequent and cheap and will take the brave as far as Naples.

There is a hotel restaurant with the option of eating al fresco. The menu is limited but aims to use local produce where at all possible. Best fried (Naples Bay) prawns and lemon sorbet I've ever had. A bit pricy for my purse but worth it.

The downside for us was that the cove where the private beach is located has an air of neglect and it seems to attract the rather unpleasant looking flotsam of the Bay of Naples. Try elsewhere for your sea swim. Plans, if permitted, are afoot to add a pool at the hotel and install a boom across the cove, I'm told.

A final downside, beyond the control of the hotel, was the nightime noise of a disco/club on a headland some distance away. Shut the windows and put on the air-con!

This hotel is an attractive renovated farm house right on the coast on the outskirts of Sorrento. The lemon and olive groves were certainly beautiful, but it didn't feel like a real agriturismo. On the upside, the view of the water was breathtaking at sunset.

The morning breakfast selection was truly amazing, and everything was tasty and fresh. Try the sfogliatelle! There were tons of pastries, breads, cheeses, meats, fruit (although some of the fruit seemed to be from a can), coffee, and juices.

We did not try dinner because we failed to notify the reception that we are vegetarians, and therefore no vegetarian options were created for that night's menu. The food looked like it was really good, but I can't provide any feedback from personal experience.

Two things about this hotel keep me from giving it a 5. One, the entire hotel shares one computer for internet. There's no wireless, and the computer is in the restaurant. The more important problem is its location. It's nice to be away from it all, but navigating the bus system in Sorrento can be a bit complicated, and even when you do figure it out, you still are walking by narrow, windy roads in the dark at least 200 meters to get to the driveway of the hotel. Forget taxis...you'll go broke!

The hotel was nice enough, but I'd recommend staying in town.
